Man City get back to winning ways after a couple of poor performances, as Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany grabs the goals against Besiktas. QPR notch five for the second successive pre-season friendly, with Adel Taarabt pulling the strings as his side run riot against Asian side Kelantan. Djibril Cisse’s injury is an early concern for Mark Hughes, however…

Man City 2 Besiktas 0
The champions stepped up a gear in their third pre-season match after failing to find the net in the first two. While still devoid of his Euro 2012 contingent, Roberto Mancini fielded a strong looking side, with Vincent Kompany shaking off a hamstring knock sustained in the previous game against Dynamo Dresden to start alongside Kolo Toure in the heart of defence. Despite a multitude of star names on show, the City official website praised the performance of Abdul Razak in particular – the teenager carried much of his side’s attacking threat and set up Sergio Aguero for the opener. Kompany demonstrated his class once again by grabbing the second; carrying the ball out from the back, the City skipper executed a perfect chip over the opposition goalkeeper just before the hour mark. The Belgian was immediately subbed off, though, and, as Mancini continued to ring the changes during the second half, City lost their momentum but, despite suffering a scare when the Turkish side hit the post, cruised home comfortably in the end.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon; Zabaleta (Rekik 70), K Toure (Boyata 88), Kompany (Savic 57), Kolarov (Helan 88); A. Johnson (Mancini 88), Y Toure (Evans 75), Razak, Lopes (Weiss 46); Aguero (Jelavic 70), Tevez (Scapuzzi 64)

Kelantan 0 QPR 5
Mark Hughes’ side continued to rack up the goals in their Asia tour with another 5-0 win yesterday. Intriguingly, QPR lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adel Taarabt handed a role in “the hole†behind Djibril Cisse, while both Fabio and Rob Green earned their first starts since joining up at Loftus Road this summer. According to the match report on the club’s official website, Taarabt was central to most of his side’s attacking moves and, creating chances aplenty from a more central position, picked up two assists. At 6.0 in FPL and 5.2 in the Sky Sports game, the Moroccan is definitely one to watch next term, though it’s arguable that this team shape may be more applicable to away games, bearing in mind that QPR picked up one point from nine road trips under Hughes last term.

Substitute Max Ehmer also provided a pair of assists, with Shaun Wright-Philips, Michael Harriman, Darren Mackie, Bobby Zamora and Heidar Helguson all getting amongst the goals in another emphatic performance from the London outfit. Despite the win, Hughes’ joy was somewhat tempered by the hamstring problem that forced Cisse off after just 20 minutes – the manager admitted post-match:

Djib felt some reaction in his hamstring. We’ll have to wait for a couple of days before it settles down and then we can make a more definite decision. It’s probably too early to make a guess on how long he’ll be out for…We’re hopeful it won’t be any longer than a week to ten days, but it’s too early to say for definite.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Murphy 46); Fabio, Ferdinand (Connolly 60), Hill (Onuoha 46), Traore (Harriman 46); Mackie, Diakite (Doughty 60), Ephraim, Wright-Phillips; Taarabt (Zamora 60); Cisse (Johnson 20) (Helguson 77).

Congratulations and welcome. You need a gravatar - https://en.gravatar.com/

There's some doubt about Mata for the start of the season because of his involvement in the Euros and the Olympics - apparently he's going to have a little rest but how long for I have no idea. Stoke's opening fixtures aren't great so you may want to reconsider Shawcross. Ditto Gerrard. Cahill and Clichy not "nailed on," as they say. You've got 5m left over. You can make a much better team if you spend it all...

Which Liverpool Midfield player shall i get? 🙂
    A) Cole
    B) Adam
    C) Gerrard
Adam seems like the best pick because he is back to mid price range and is a guaranteed starter.

Pearce if you are willing to pay 4.5. Mariappa or Gunter if you are willing to take a risk as they are not confirmed nailed on defenders.

Pearce by no means nailed on. I think it will be either Gorkss/Mariappa or Gorkss/Pearce in the centre of the defence. Brian may not want to take a risk with the relatively young Pearce/Mariappa combo at the start. Gunter nailed on imo.

Too much cash in defence, think you'll get caught out in midfield as a result. Make sure you can get some Man Utd attack in for GWK 2. I think City will tear Southampton a new one, so having three City at the moment is fine.

So how are you playing Chelsea? There is only room to take out 2 Chelsea players before GW 3. And a Chelsea player is a lot of money on the bench.

    Are you:
    A) Take out 3 take a 4 point hit
    B) Take out 2 and bench 1
    C) Start with less than 3 in your opening team

Indeed. It's short for rip it up and start again 😉

No point in having Krul with De Gea, save 1m with a 4.5m. Lescott does the same job as Kompany for 1m less. Mata is expected to be rested at first due to Olympic involvement. Siggy's role is unclear, unlike Bale. Allen won't get you much. Maloney is cheaper than Beau and on pens.

    Is no one considering Podoski?

    My team atm:

    Green
    Cole, Lescott, Kaboul
    Hazard (c), Valencia, Bale, Kagawa
    Torres, Podoski, Pog

A weakness is the lack of city attack, was thinking of bringing silva in?

Hangeland S.Taylor Cuellar Wilson Rangel Ridgewell all offer tremendous value.. even @ 5.5 there's Konscielny and Kaboul. Spending more than 6 on a defender seems a bit of a waste..

I disagree... if you want top defensive coverage on the top teams you'll probably have to pay extra for it... Then I'm a believer that top captain choices is more important than balance so I've gone extremely top heavy with Torres, Rooney and Aguero. Going all valuetown for 3 Mids and 3 defenders that rotate well amongst each other.

              Leothered is right.

Gunter is not that attacking. 2 goals and 7 assists in 3 years for Forest, but for a 4m defender, likely nailed on for the best defence in the Championship last season, you can't really ask for more than that.

    Any thoughts on this team?

    DDG Green
Ivanovic Wilson A Hughes S Taylor Cuellar
    Bale Hazard McClean Taarbrat Noble
    Augero Torres D Ciise

Have gone with DDG and Green will bench warm for most games and may play him GW1 as DDG maybe still on Olympic duty.

Wilson/Hughes and S Taylor/Cuellar will rotate to give me two 4.5 home players each GW.

Hazard is worth a punt for DGW and Bale fills in to downgrade when I need Rooney in GW 3.

Taking a punt on D Ciise for first two GWs to see how he does. Could be a bargain.

If I can be brave enough to drop Lescott, I will have similar backline. I would go for Demel over Hughes with Senderos about. .5 cheaper too.

Noble is the 5m West Ham midfielder you want. I don't know about Taylor's gametime but he played LB quite a bit last season which is off-putting.
