Man City get back to winning ways after a couple of poor performances, as Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany grabs the goals against Besiktas. QPR notch five for the second successive pre-season friendly, with Adel Taarabt pulling the strings as his side run riot against Asian side Kelantan. Djibril Cisse’s injury is an early concern for Mark Hughes, however…

Man City 2 Besiktas 0
The champions stepped up a gear in their third pre-season match after failing to find the net in the first two. While still devoid of his Euro 2012 contingent, Roberto Mancini fielded a strong looking side, with Vincent Kompany shaking off a hamstring knock sustained in the previous game against Dynamo Dresden to start alongside Kolo Toure in the heart of defence. Despite a multitude of star names on show, the City official website praised the performance of Abdul Razak in particular – the teenager carried much of his side’s attacking threat and set up Sergio Aguero for the opener. Kompany demonstrated his class once again by grabbing the second; carrying the ball out from the back, the City skipper executed a perfect chip over the opposition goalkeeper just before the hour mark. The Belgian was immediately subbed off, though, and, as Mancini continued to ring the changes during the second half, City lost their momentum but, despite suffering a scare when the Turkish side hit the post, cruised home comfortably in the end.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon; Zabaleta (Rekik 70), K Toure (Boyata 88), Kompany (Savic 57), Kolarov (Helan 88); A. Johnson (Mancini 88), Y Toure (Evans 75), Razak, Lopes (Weiss 46); Aguero (Jelavic 70), Tevez (Scapuzzi 64)

Kelantan 0 QPR 5
Mark Hughes’ side continued to rack up the goals in their Asia tour with another 5-0 win yesterday. Intriguingly, QPR lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adel Taarabt handed a role in “the hole” behind Djibril Cisse, while both Fabio and Rob Green earned their first starts since joining up at Loftus Road this summer. According to the match report on the club’s official website, Taarabt was central to most of his side’s attacking moves and, creating chances aplenty from a more central position, picked up two assists. At 6.0 in FPL and 5.2 in the Sky Sports game, the Moroccan is definitely one to watch next term, though it’s arguable that this team shape may be more applicable to away games, bearing in mind that QPR picked up one point from nine road trips under Hughes last term.

Substitute Max Ehmer also provided a pair of assists, with Shaun Wright-Philips, Michael Harriman, Darren Mackie, Bobby Zamora and Heidar Helguson all getting amongst the goals in another emphatic performance from the London outfit. Despite the win, Hughes’ joy was somewhat tempered by the hamstring problem that forced Cisse off after just 20 minutes – the manager admitted post-match:

Djib felt some reaction in his hamstring. We’ll have to wait for a couple of days before it settles down and then we can make a more definite decision. It’s probably too early to make a guess on how long he’ll be out for…We’re hopeful it won’t be any longer than a week to ten days, but it’s too early to say for definite.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Murphy 46); Fabio, Ferdinand (Connolly 60), Hill (Onuoha 46), Traore (Harriman 46); Mackie, Diakite (Doughty 60), Ephraim, Wright-Phillips; Taarabt (Zamora 60); Cisse (Johnson 20) (Helguson 77).

Alright, come up with a first draft 😀

Would appreciate some thoughts on this rabble:

    Kagawa Mata Silva Taarabt Nobel

Might opt for Young instead of Kagawa potentially that being the case.

Mata huge doubt because of the olympics? Is the schedule that intense? He has a week off before the first game right?

Good team SCN with a few more unusual ( nice to see).

You should know more about Borini and Kebe nearer season kickoff, so no need to worry about them for a few weeks. Just find an alternative in budget just in case.

Will anyone rate my team and put my questions to rest?

    GK: De Gea Jaask
DEF: Lescott Cole Kaboul (Fonte) (Cuellar)
MID: Hazard Yaya Noble Pienaar (Britton)
    FOR: Aguero Ba Torres

So here are the question marks I have hanging over this team at the minute.

1 – Is Fonte nailed on? There’s alot of 4.0 defenders available but it’s hard to say which one to go for.
2 – Is Pienaar certain to go back to Everton?
3 – Will Ba be pushed out on to the left-wing again? If so, should I go Torres -> Cisse after GW1 and replace Ba with Lambert now?

What's the point of having Britton? Did absolutely nothing in attacking terms last season. And not keen on Ba, or Lambert, at least to begin with. Pogrebnyak might be a better option to give you another double gameweek player. Fonte was nailed on last season, but I guess it's worth watching who they sign.

Oh, he was just somebody I stuck in there because he plays regularly and I can see the same thing happening with Laudrup. I've gone to Frei instead upon further inspection. I also considered Gary Gardner, because I think this could be a big breakthrough season for him.

so i haven't posted my team yet, but i think this is as close as i'm going to get in terms of my "final" team. it's a little heavy defensively, but here it is:

    de gea, federici
    verm, terry, clichy, cueller, fabio
hazard, pienaar, taraabt, nolan, maloney (will bring in michu if he is 6.0-6.5 range)
    torres, adebayor, tevez

the first 3 trades i will be making are terry -> kaboul, hazard -> vdv then torres to rooney with 0 left in the bank. i know my mid is really light, but i really want 3 solid defenders i can count on. then of course there's the whole tevez situation, but i am willing to take a punt as he is much cheaper than aguero.

Pog could be a risk, but with two pricey forwards you need a cheap third and he fits the bill nicely.

Agreed that you need a cheapie third. Why do you both think he is risky out of interest?

Why do you 'need' a cheap 3rd striker? I have Rooney Tevez and Torres and I am happy with my team (see above). If Pog bombs as I expect him to it would cost a hit to get rid.

Need is a poor choice of words probably, Just mean it's the strategy I usually go with.

Dunno, think your mid/def suffer for it personally.

I agree with this. Him and Aguero partnership transformed City at the end of last season. All the linking him away seems like paper talk, if he goes easy to replace as you say but if he stays I'd fully expect him to start.

if he doesnt come off then it'll be difficult to get rid without a hit... but I'm not too put off since I plan to W/C anyway

Don't think Pog's too much of a risk, he'll be the focal point of Reading's attack this year, and probably get goals from set-pieces too, due to his height, which is a particular strength of Reading's.

Very nice. Lots of love for Kagawa on here since FPL launched, is he always gonna keep Chico, Nani, Valencia, Welbeck out the team? Surely a rotation risk?

No doubt he will concede against Chelsea but he might get some save points as well.
        Also he has a DGW.
Reading have a blank in gw 3 so I don't want any more Reading players as I already have Pogrebnyak up front.

Good luck with it. I've Pogrenbyak and Guthrie and Cole and Mata but from what I'm seeing here Mata won't play til September. Might swap ti Hazard if I'm convinced he can walk the walk in the PL.

I've hardly seen Silva in an RMT.

Too pricey or is it because everyone is going for Aguero and he's not needed as well?
