Man City get back to winning ways after a couple of poor performances, as Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany grabs the goals against Besiktas. QPR notch five for the second successive pre-season friendly, with Adel Taarabt pulling the strings as his side run riot against Asian side Kelantan. Djibril Cisse’s injury is an early concern for Mark Hughes, however…

Man City 2 Besiktas 0
The champions stepped up a gear in their third pre-season match after failing to find the net in the first two. While still devoid of his Euro 2012 contingent, Roberto Mancini fielded a strong looking side, with Vincent Kompany shaking off a hamstring knock sustained in the previous game against Dynamo Dresden to start alongside Kolo Toure in the heart of defence. Despite a multitude of star names on show, the City official website praised the performance of Abdul Razak in particular – the teenager carried much of his side’s attacking threat and set up Sergio Aguero for the opener. Kompany demonstrated his class once again by grabbing the second; carrying the ball out from the back, the City skipper executed a perfect chip over the opposition goalkeeper just before the hour mark. The Belgian was immediately subbed off, though, and, as Mancini continued to ring the changes during the second half, City lost their momentum but, despite suffering a scare when the Turkish side hit the post, cruised home comfortably in the end.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon; Zabaleta (Rekik 70), K Toure (Boyata 88), Kompany (Savic 57), Kolarov (Helan 88); A. Johnson (Mancini 88), Y Toure (Evans 75), Razak, Lopes (Weiss 46); Aguero (Jelavic 70), Tevez (Scapuzzi 64)

Kelantan 0 QPR 5
Mark Hughes’ side continued to rack up the goals in their Asia tour with another 5-0 win yesterday. Intriguingly, QPR lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adel Taarabt handed a role in “the hole” behind Djibril Cisse, while both Fabio and Rob Green earned their first starts since joining up at Loftus Road this summer. According to the match report on the club’s official website, Taarabt was central to most of his side’s attacking moves and, creating chances aplenty from a more central position, picked up two assists. At 6.0 in FPL and 5.2 in the Sky Sports game, the Moroccan is definitely one to watch next term, though it’s arguable that this team shape may be more applicable to away games, bearing in mind that QPR picked up one point from nine road trips under Hughes last term.

Substitute Max Ehmer also provided a pair of assists, with Shaun Wright-Philips, Michael Harriman, Darren Mackie, Bobby Zamora and Heidar Helguson all getting amongst the goals in another emphatic performance from the London outfit. Despite the win, Hughes’ joy was somewhat tempered by the hamstring problem that forced Cisse off after just 20 minutes – the manager admitted post-match:

Djib felt some reaction in his hamstring. We’ll have to wait for a couple of days before it settles down and then we can make a more definite decision. It’s probably too early to make a guess on how long he’ll be out for…We’re hopeful it won’t be any longer than a week to ten days, but it’s too early to say for definite.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Murphy 46); Fabio, Ferdinand (Connolly 60), Hill (Onuoha 46), Traore (Harriman 46); Mackie, Diakite (Doughty 60), Ephraim, Wright-Phillips; Taarabt (Zamora 60); Cisse (Johnson 20) (Helguson 77).

true, but in the majority of cases it takes a while to adapt to premiership. Aguero was the exception.

Man y didn't do that well in their first season, especially at the beginning of the season

Mata or Aguero have done class and are still humble about it. Hazard doesn't do humble so we'll have to wait and see how he'll do on a miserable day in Stoke or Newcastle or wherever getting kicked at every turn and having far less time and space than he's used to.He will make it in the PL, just don't expect him to do it from day one.

problem is though he is one of the highest owned players, so if he does do well in the double, if you don't have him you will be playing catch up

agree that unproven players are a risk - but then you could have said the same about aguero last season and look what happened on his debut.

sometimes they are worth a punt, so just make sure the rest of the team is full of solid, proven players

Not seen Siggy in too many RMTs, even at the higher price, he's got to be a decent shout.

I was at the Stevenage Spurs friendly the other night, he looked sharp and ready to impress the new boss, played in the hole behind Harry Kane in the second half, got his goal and with a better strike partner could've had an assist or two.

Fair point. The Siggy/VDV conundrum could be tricky. I think AVB will play one of them off the striker (Ade if they buy him I guess).

Bit worried Siggy will drop back in the middle when Modric finally goes. Maybe Bale is the low risk option until a few games in when we know more about the Spurs set-up

    Federici (DDG)
    Lescott Hangeland A Cole (Kaboul,Fox)
    Noble Dyer Hazard Taarabt (Beausejour)

    RMT please

Friedel (or Lloris if bought) / Ruddy
    A. Cole / Koscielny / Hangeland / Fabio / Simpson
    Marin / Dempsey / Hazard / Beausejour / Noble
    Kun Aguero / P.D Cisse / Rodallega

Going with 3 Chelsea due to their double game, but Hazard will probably become Bale after that.

My problem is that there is a lack of 7.0m midfielders that fit into what I want.
If Moses moves to Chelsea will he play much?
Also trying to get some Man Utd players in has proved tough, de Gea may be an option.

Bardsley is injured & is probs out for a few wks yet.

              I think he'll go -

Cuellar & Richardson are pretty much certain to play.
Then it will be 2 from O'Shea, Brown, Turner

ps dont forget Kilgallon, he was one of our best players at the back end last season.

pps Laing is a player to watch too.

I can have either Aguero & Sinclair or Tevez and Bale. Option 2 looks better but I don't want to miss out on Aguero and Tevez could easily be benched. Other than that my teams good to go.

Pretty decent, but why not Cole instead of Ivanovic?
      Also:
      Will Clichy always play?
      Tomkins away on Olympic duty
Torres instead of P.D Cisse or even Jelavic?

Comments appreciated. I prefer ivanovic for his goal threat. You've got a point on clichy. I don't like the look of him in their either. Didn't realise that Tomkins was in the Olympic squad so he's out of my team. Torres in for his double really.

Back to the drawing board somewhat

No probs. You are right about Ivanovic and his goal threat, but I think he will only get games at right back and everywhere I read, Chelsea are still looking for aother one.
Cole will definitely play every week and will get you assists.

Totally agree about going with Chelsea players for the first week.
Right now I am gambling and going with:

          A. Cole
          Marin
          Hazard

I and led to belive that Chelsea might start to play 4-2-3-1 and with Mata and Sturridge away to the Olympics too, I am hoping my two midfielders are nailed on to be part of the 3

IMO you could have a 4.5 defender instead of Clichy. You've still got ivanovic, lescott and kaboul as expensive options which is more than adequate.

maybe even keep that 1.5 (clichy -> 4.5) in the bank to upgrade Pog after the double?

I think he's good value... I got the impression he's priced due to his score in the PL last season (and that's with his time out at the ACON too. Just don't go expecting massive hauls from him, more just steadily good.
