We’ve a number of things in development right now, including the new event maps to be added to the members area, a new version of the season ticker which will get the tool back in the sidebar on every page of the site and the members’ pre-season player projections.

I’m directly involved in the latter, working with Fantasy Football statistician Chris Atkinson, the creator of the statistical model that powered his “Rate My Team” website over the past two seasons. Last year the stats brains amongst the Scout Team, namely Pure Olivia and Superior Being, spent a lot of time looking at Chris’ model and came to the conclusion that he had created something really rather special.

The model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence or factored in.

When it came to improving our projections for the coming season, it was a no-brainer for us. We approached Chris to be involved and we’re delighted to say he joined the Scout team ranks earlier this year. We’ve been spending several weeks working with the existing model and hatching plans for improvements. However, the pre-season projections have been the priority and they are now close to their first release.

Right now we’re factoring in the effect of the African Cup of Nations on those likely to participate but, once that is added to the model, we’ll be very close to a first set of numbers.

We’re looking to publish full projections for every player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. We’re also looking to deliver short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule of those crucial budget purchases.

I’m certainly encouraged by the numbers being produced at the moment and have no doubt that, by bringing in Chris’ model, we’ve taken a big step to delivering our the best set of pre-season projections yet. I’ll hopefully bring you more on this in the next few days…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Saving Private Ryan

Fulham are looking at former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel, 25, who has fallen out with coach Markus Babbel at Hoffenheim.

I could be all over that. Especially if Demps leaves

The problem is from his early hype and WC06 selection people expected him to hit top level quickly . They brand him inconsistent which is very harsh. Scores important goals, can change a game with his pace and at his age hasn't he achieved more than any other english wingers ?

Early hype? Six years on and he's still useless. In answer to the question as to why he appears in so many people's teams is still the lack of world class players in the team, thereby making Walcott an option.

Lampard and Nani instead of Hazard and Valencia, although many on here seem to prefer the two you have picked.

Can't see Kaboul starting with Walker, Vertonghen, Dawson/Gallas, Assou-Ekotto.

Demel, Gunter, Taarabt and Petric make the overall squad a bit suspect.

Too many uncertainties for me, but you may find a gem amongst that bunch and you do at least have three Chelsea players along with Aguero, Clichy and De Gea so you'll make an o.k start.

Any opinion about Nollan? I remember him back from the Newcastle time. He was excellent goal keeper, second in row for spot kicks and scored double digit goals. What changed in mean time. I was so convinced by him being in my team, having in mind the potential. price and fixtures. But suddenly I listened that he might become slow and he became rotation risk with Diame.

I would appreciate any input on Nollan by the lads.

He is a very experienced Premiership player, and a consistent goalscorer from midfield. Particular through many seasons with Bolton, but also with Newcastle.

However he's perhaps a bit too experienced. He's getting a bit old and isn't on spot kicks.

Could still rack up double digit goals, but depends on his fitness and gametime.

Noble takes corners as well as penalties, Save the £1m for elsewhere and it won't matter so much when you bench him, whereas too often you'll want to try to play Nolan and West Ham won't be that great. For what it's worth I've put Noble in my squad - he'll play and may chip in when you need him.

Their fixtures in that first GW are just too good to miss out on. 3 CHE players all the way.

    a) Friedel & Siggy/VDV
    b) Mignolet & Bale/Dempsey

If Siggy ends up playing in the hole then it'd be great. Spurs fixtures look good for cleanies too.

How's this looking? I think Mancini had a lot of faith in Clichy and I see his as a player who keeps improving hence his inclusion. Some people are saying Ivan over Cole, what's the reasoning?

    de Gea (fettucini)

Clichy, Demel, Cole A, Hangeland (Cuellar)

    Dempsey, Guthrie, Silva (Barfa) (Pienaar)

    Torres, Adebayor, Graham

      I reckon Cole.
I think Clichy is inevitably going to get rotated.
I reckon Hughes + Tomkins rather than Hangeland + Demel.

Otherwise good, except Guthrie and Graham won't do much.

TBH I know Jack about the promoted teams, just going off what people say on here and I like the value defence. I remember Tomkins from his last bout in the premier league though and didn't think too much of him. I think you could be wrong about Graham 🙂

I'm no expert, but Tomkins is more assured of starts and Hughes is better value than Hangeland.

Ivanovic more of a goal threat. And if Che don't sign a RB,he's 100% nailed on to start. I have the same defence as yours. Wouldn't personally touch Barfa,Fixtures aren't appealing.

TY I think I'll switch, I'd sooner hit Cole in the face with a large trout than have him in my team. I'm in the Barfa faithful though, Newcastle are a top side so not looking at the fixtures too closely.

I reckon both Cole and Ivanovic are nailed on full backs, just Ivanovic chips in with a couple more goals. I reckon Graham is a good pick, much better than anyone else at that price.

      c) Frei - a risk, but if Dempsey goes he could be a bargain
