We’ve a number of things in development right now, including the new event maps to be added to the members area, a new version of the season ticker which will get the tool back in the sidebar on every page of the site and the members’ pre-season player projections.

I’m directly involved in the latter, working with Fantasy Football statistician Chris Atkinson, the creator of the statistical model that powered his “Rate My Team” website over the past two seasons. Last year the stats brains amongst the Scout Team, namely Pure Olivia and Superior Being, spent a lot of time looking at Chris’ model and came to the conclusion that he had created something really rather special.

The model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence or factored in.

When it came to improving our projections for the coming season, it was a no-brainer for us. We approached Chris to be involved and we’re delighted to say he joined the Scout team ranks earlier this year. We’ve been spending several weeks working with the existing model and hatching plans for improvements. However, the pre-season projections have been the priority and they are now close to their first release.

Right now we’re factoring in the effect of the African Cup of Nations on those likely to participate but, once that is added to the model, we’ll be very close to a first set of numbers.

We’re looking to publish full projections for every player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. We’re also looking to deliver short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule of those crucial budget purchases.

I’m certainly encouraged by the numbers being produced at the moment and have no doubt that, by bringing in Chris’ model, we’ve taken a big step to delivering our the best set of pre-season projections yet. I’ll hopefully bring you more on this in the next few days…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Okay first RMT:

    Feder DDG

    McCartney Ivanovic Gunter Collocini Fabio

Pienaar(if EVE) Hazard McClean Bale Taraabt

    Graham Aguero Torres

Imo the defence is shaky, doubling on reading might not be a good idea. Also thinking that I'm lacking Manu attacking cover. And only option if Torres fails would be Torres->Welbeck, since Bale + Ade wouldn't be that wise.

    What are your thoughts?

    Dear Ashley Cole,

You're what I call a wasteman. How could you ever hurt Cheryl's feelings? Do you know how pretty she is and do you know how great her personality is? Mate, it's your loss, not hers. She'll move on happily (with me) and you'll sob in the corner, just like every other Chelsea player.

    Yours sincerly, Gerv.

I like this, good man. Being different does not mean it's wrong. Never been a fan of Walters and I hate the Noble pick (which ironically is the most popular mid on here from your choices).

I would consider Gerrard maybe later when his fixtures improve. I agree with Shipstontrev that Petric is better than Roddy but that's just our opinion, he could do very well.

Do you think NZog will be a nailed on starter? I'm tempted, but think I'll just wait and see how he fits in with Paul 'the tinkerer' Lambert's thinking before he comes into my squad. If Pienaar goes to Everton I think he is way more attractive at 6.5m than N'Zog.

Basically everyone who does well in GW1 goes up in price due to the high activity of casual players. I remember 2 seasons ago, Marlon Harewood was transferred in by thousands after he scored a brace in GW1. Obviously he didn't do much after that 🙂

Very technical and hes ambidextrous. Many regard him as the best player outside of Spains big two. Would be one of the best signings we've made in years. Could line up like above or:

Based on fixtures you'd wanna have some Spurs and Swans cover withint the first 5, right.

Siggy has created a conundrum imo. I'm wondering how his departure will effect the goal scoring chances of Swansea, and how his arrival will impact his and other's points haullage at Spurs.

I think in typing this I've answered my own question. Siggy and VDV are wait and see's, plus the Ade / striker is yet to be sorted. It's probably safer to lean toward Bale to start off with.

As for Swansea, Graham is worth a shot for now pending further arrivals. Also might be worth keeping one of their mids in mind.

    Thoughts?

I love and loathe this part of the season 🙂

I'm hoping you're right. Based on fixtures you'd think they'll be netting a few and Graham will be in the mix. Michu could work against his retuns I guess?

I would pass on siggy and VDV until we see how they hit the ground. Bale is a far safer pick as is adebayor. If siggy kills it early it's always easy to go bale to siggy and save 1.5m.

Swans are another conundrum. If their def was 4.5 it would be a lock but who knows how they will play under laudraup or gel with the new inclusion. Graham is a safe choice though.

Graham is worth it as a nailed on attacking player for Swansea. Michu may also be good attacking cover for the swans once he gets some warm up games under his belt.

Its tough going for Spurs cover at the moment. Bale is nailed on but its hard to know how the team will shape up especially as Ade hasn't arrived yet. I've risked getting VDV in but its hard to say how nailed on he will be under new management.

    Hi all,
first of all does anyone know who is set pieces and spot kicks for westham/ reading?
is Clichy very likely to start matches (barring injuries/suspensions.) ?
and with all these swans sigings would it still be worth getting on Joe Allen/leon britten?

    heres my team ATM
    DDG, (Cerny)
    Jones,Lescott, ACole, (Mcartney, Barnett)
Cabaye, Yaya Toure, Bale, Guthire, (Nolan)
    Torres, Graham, Roonpig

after game-week one I'll probably be putting Nolan on for Guthrie

ok so as we head into DZ, i would like some people's advice on ma team if you could be so nice 🙂 i know it's generic but some comments on my transfer plans would be helpful as i usually take each gameweek as it comes.

    Begovic
    Terry (c) Ivanovic Hughes
    Bale Kagawa Pienaar Noble
    Graham Torres Aguero
    Subs:
    Juicy Wilson Boloney Cuellar

    GW2 Torres > Rooney
    GW3 Ivanovic > Lescott/Clichy (depends who's playing)

Comments will be greatly accepted as i haven't had much feedback yet, thanks in advance.

Is Hughes a guaranteed starter these days? I know he spent a bit of time on the bench last year. Also be aware that Pienaar is still a spurs player so he may not get game time in the first few weeks. Consider a replacement option if he doesn't move to Everton soon.

Transfer plan looks fine due to the blank for Chelsea in GW3. It may be overkill to get rid of two Chelsea players if you have adequate cover on the bench.

Something a little outside the Generic and team chices explained.

    Please RATE MY CHOICES

De Gea- First season out of the way. improved immensely towards end of season. With vidic back and De Gea more confident between the posts. It should be a great season for him.

Federici- Unlucky not to be named in championship team of season, Deve;oped from original third choice to first choice keeper. Assured between the posts and kept numerous clean sheets last season. Cheap option at 4.5

Rafael - Signed new contract. Fergie has praised the youngster and claims he can go on to be one of the best right backs in the world. Should make possition his own. Big season expected with assists

Steven Taylor - Back in training and will be first xi beside collocini - goal threat, decent defender, if he stays injury free, should be a fantasy football points magnet.

Carlos Cuellar - Favourite of MON, should be straight into first team, can play anywhere along the back. Mignolet now number one, more clean sheets expected from a tight O neill side.

Matthew Lowton - Highly rated defender - Fits Lamberts style of play. Hutton was cronic last season prob his worst. Lowton in to solve the RB problem. One of his main strenghts is going forward, Expect assists.

George McCarthy/ Jamie Ness cheap options - McCarthy 31 year old left back bought by West ham after his season on loan. Ness of Stoke OOP young center mid , here as def, free transfer from rangers newco if hes assured a start, could be a good prospect

Eden Hazard- Big big name, lots of goals and assists in his locker, technical ability and pace, scored already in preseason. Exciting Talent.

Shinji Kagawa- It can be argued that he may not be cut out or the prem, but he played in the Bundesliga last year winning the title with Dortmond, Quick intelligent attacking mid with an eye for goal. Should be great linking up with Rooney. United lacked a player of his style and ability last season. He should be the answer to their problems. Fergie has alrady been raving about him since his arrival

Hatem Ben Arfa- Part of a three pronged attack. Superb after coming back from an horriic injury. Score magical goals at the end of last season. Can only get better. Goals asists , Bonus Points!

Mark Nobel - First Choice, Free kicks, Penos, corners. 8 goals last season 7 from penos, expect goals and a number of assists for 5.0m price tag.

Kerim Frei - Cheap option at 4.5m, Known for his quick feet and dribbling, young talent, he should florish if Dempsey is sold but should only be considered if Dempsey moves on. Murphy now sold and changes at Fulham he may it into an attacking roll with Dempsey but for now a cheap option, others to consider - Guthrie at 4.5m price tag.

Aguero - Goal Machine need i say anymore, talented, tricky one amazing season under his belt. Expect the same again this season,

Torress - Although he only playd three games in euros, he won the golden boot, Confidence grew during last two months of season. CF position now his own, He has the talent, With speed, and tricky players behind him, I think it can be a big season for him.

Papiss Demba Cisse, He took the prem by storm last season, massive confidence, strong very athletic and knows how to ind the back of the net. Another good season on the cards.

My defence might sound a bit week but I would be hoping the above explains my choices, please give your opinion.
Good luck for the new season.

Looks fairly solid at this stage with prob a few to many risks for early in the season. STaylor might miss the start, Lowton might get eases into it - as could Frei. Will Kagawa and Hazard find their feet straight away.

But if it all pays off ---> Bonanza!

Good for you Two Clips. I'm glad you've thought things through (and taken the time to post them here) I might not agree with all your assertions but kudos on a well constructed RMT !!

Yeah, it's just too thin at the back, I'd say. And right now Taylor and Cuellar are not even nailed on. Rafa might be delayed by the Olympics, too.

That means you'll need to depend on the others. They might be your only two starting defense (beside GK). I'd either drop Cisse or DDG, seeing as how you already have Rafael.

      Just my opinion.

I agree with 50 Shades. Some big risks, I'm not convinced on some new boys hitting the ground runing. However, these gambles could pay off big time.

You've got me thinking about Rafael and Ben Arfa.

      Good luck

Swansea coverage - with the new players they've brought in, how do we think they'll line up?

    And what about Guzman?

With regards to Man City's full backs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Clichy and Kolarov both left backs. Leaving just Zabaleta to contest for the RB spot with Micah. Surely Richards is more likely to start than Clichy? Any thoughts?

Clichy is a limited footballer but he is solid defensively. Most managers like 1 attacking FB and one defending FB. Gives them good security when the RB goes tramping upfield. Plus Mancini seems to prefer him. Clichy played 400+ minutes over Richards and nearly 1000min over zaba.

Any obvious places to trim out 0.5m from this lot - currently at 100.5m 🙁

    Friedel, Federici
    Ivanovic, Clichy, Cuellar, Demel, Fonte
    Hazard, Dempsey, Taarabt, Noble, Maloney
    Aguero, Torres, Tevez

    Thinking probably Maloney/Noble -> a 4.5m'er like Frei

      clyne>fonte
      mccartney>demel
      michu>taarabt (providing he's same price)

just downgrade friedel and get 5.0 gk

Well, you could have Mignolet and Jussi for 9.5m. Doubling on the SUN defence wouldn't be a particularly bad idea either. Can't really see West Ham or Reading keeping too many clean sheets.

Noble to Guthrie. Can't understand the love for Maloney, he might take penalties if Wigan do get penalties. McCarthy is streets ahead of him but my opinion could be biaised as I want Trap to bring him back into the Ireland team.

I've given up on trying to second guess Mancini.

I'd give Clichy 75% starts, and Richards 80%.

    But i've been wrong before....

I actually think Richards has a way to go to get back in the team. Zabaletta looked very good at the end of the season and was 1st choice imo. Clichy the same - I think he's first choice for now. Also think Kolarov may be leaving soon.

Clichy helped me close out the mini-league, assists and BAPs were pretty consistent. Reckon he's gonna be my choice. Just think that without Richards getting injured, Zab wouldn't have had the game-time he did at the end of season...
