We’ve a number of things in development right now, including the new event maps to be added to the members area, a new version of the season ticker which will get the tool back in the sidebar on every page of the site and the members’ pre-season player projections.

I’m directly involved in the latter, working with Fantasy Football statistician Chris Atkinson, the creator of the statistical model that powered his “Rate My Team” website over the past two seasons. Last year the stats brains amongst the Scout Team, namely Pure Olivia and Superior Being, spent a lot of time looking at Chris’ model and came to the conclusion that he had created something really rather special.

The model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence or factored in.

When it came to improving our projections for the coming season, it was a no-brainer for us. We approached Chris to be involved and we’re delighted to say he joined the Scout team ranks earlier this year. We’ve been spending several weeks working with the existing model and hatching plans for improvements. However, the pre-season projections have been the priority and they are now close to their first release.

Right now we’re factoring in the effect of the African Cup of Nations on those likely to participate but, once that is added to the model, we’ll be very close to a first set of numbers.

We’re looking to publish full projections for every player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. We’re also looking to deliver short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule of those crucial budget purchases.

I’m certainly encouraged by the numbers being produced at the moment and have no doubt that, by bringing in Chris’ model, we’ve taken a big step to delivering our the best set of pre-season projections yet. I’ll hopefully bring you more on this in the next few days…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Terry-Lescott-Cuellar-Wilson-Demel

Looks good - get guthrie instead of britton because of double swans, similar problem at the back: look for another defender apart from demel as you have double hammers defence. I think Fulham rotate well if that helps

      Hey Acqua.

      Upgrade Taraabt to one of:

      NZog
      Fellaini
      Walters
      McCLean
      Laarson

If Taraabt gets hot you can always downgrade. It will only cost you 1 Transfer.

Fair enough, but wanted 0.5 saved for rooney.

Out of that lot I was thinking Larsson or McClean, who do you reckon?

Im leaning towards Seb to start strong. On set pieces, probably pens, etc.

I posted this earlier but really want some feedback from the Deadzone!

6.5 is the Magic Number…..here are my thoughts

    NZog
    Fellaini
    Pineaar
    Walters
    McCLean
    Laarson

All decent prospects at the price. Surely the prospects of at least 3 of them having a good start (GW1-8) are pretty strong.

When selecting my midfield my thought is to not have more than 1 player worth less than 6.5. That way only 1 FT will be needed to make a substitution should the need arise as a hit will not be required to raise funds. Therefore i am going to have 2 of them in my squad to start.

Having 2 @ 6.5 mids will allow for more flexbility than having a cheaper combo. I.E. Nolan 6.0 and Taarabt 6.0.

Am i reading into this too much and over thinking? Or does it make sense?

        Cole/Ivanovich/Cuellar/Fabio/Gorkss
        Bale/Valencia/Pineaar/Laarson/Frei (if dempsey goes)
        Aguero/Torres/Graham

        Planned transfers……

        GW2 Ivanovich > United Defender
        GW3 Torres>on form FWD ie….ade/bent/Ba/Cisse/Jelly

        Other future transfers incl;

      I agree.

My thought process is (HH=heavy hitters):

      GKs either DDG+Jussi OR Friedel+Frederici
2 HH in defence, with 3 rotating cheapies
2 HH in mid, 2 mid priced, 1 bench fodder(4.5)
2 HH in attack, 1 mid priced (Holt, Graham, Cisse, etc.)

I do. Even if they sign a new striker, he'll be fairly OOP.
Majority of what Sunderland do goes through him plus the favorable fixtures.

the thing is larsson and mcclean are great value at 6.5 for sunderland cover over sess. Can he justify his 1.5 value more? I would go for seb to start.

I see your point. I might just end up going with Larsson. However, MON does not land a striker, Sess would even be a better shout.

Any one thinking of going with a really weak backline (hopefully balanced and well rotationed)?

    My current backline is:

    Begovic, Jaasy

    Colocinni, Cuellar, Alcaraz, Jenkinson, Fonte.

This would leave you: £68.5m for your big guns. My attack is:

    Silva, Bale, Hazard, Kagawa, Noble

Torres, Tevez, Pog ( with the 2m spare for Torres -> Rooney)

    Intrigued?

tbh no, backline is weak and risky. Pog is hard to replace unless you want him permanently. Tevez is not certain at this point. Good try though

OK, just finished looking at rotations for my final defensive strategy... 5-way rotation. Have gone for the best rotation I can find with teams with proven defences at home - this excludes Reading. Settled on SUN/FUL/STO/QPR/WIG. This gives me the following team without any doubling in defence or GK. DGWers marked with *

    Federici* Friedel
    Hangeland Fabio Cuellar Wilson Alcaraz
    Kagawa Lampard* Taarabt Maloney Noble
    Torres* Aguero Rooney

Fat Frank won't play 90 in both. Hazard a better shout.

Don't like the 5man defensive rotation. Better off with 2 big hitters+3man rotation.

Upgrade maloney to a 6.5 and downgrade Rooney for now.

Actually went towards Lampard after doubting Hazard. Pretty unimpressive and uninvolved in the game each time I've seen him so far. I've half a mind to go Ramires at 2.0 cheaper actually which would make a whole lot of things possible.

Contemplating 3 big striker strategy at the start because I believe the striker points will be easier to predict than the mid points, and they have higher goal involvement than mids. Can always downgrade them to improve the mid once the good midfielders become clear. The benefit when you have cash in fewer players is that it's easy to free the money.

Fixtures for 5-way rotation in the first 6 GWs. Have been pushing 3-way rotation so far but tried this as an experiment.

Very interesting....are you not worried about not having City defenders? Guaranteed 14-18 CS.

with a 5 man rotation, i am afraid you will have loads of CS sitting on the bench and it may proove frustrating.

I must admit though, your stikeforce looks mouth watering. The only downside is that you will have many sleepless friday nights deciding on who to (c).
