QPR keep up their winning ways with a narrow 2-1 triumph in the final game of their pre-season tour of Asia. Bobby Zamora is amongst the goals once again for Mark Hughes’ outfit, with Samba Diakite, Adel Taarabt and Fabio (playing as a right winger) the main protagonists. Tim Cahill looks to be on his way out of Everton after the Toffees accept a bid from New York Red Bulls, while Sir Alex Ferguson reveals Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans may not be ready in time for the new season as United’s central defensive crisis deepens:

Persebaya 1 QPR 2
Mark Hughes’s side finished their Asia tour with a 100% record after their third successive win yesterday. After back-to-back 5-0 victories in their previous two games, QPR didn’t get things their own way, though, and conceded their first goal of pre-season on 17 minutes – Rob Green failed to gather a long ball into the box, allowing home forward Soler the chance to slot home from close-range. Samba Diakite, in particular, was lauded by the QPR website for a superb showing in central midfield but it was on-loan Fabio who again played his part offensively. Playing on the right of midfield for Hughes’ side, the Brazilian was hauled down in the box on 26 minutes, with Adel Taarabt slotting home the resultant spot-kick. Fabio – at 4.5 in FPL and 4.3 in the Sky Sports game – already looks set for plenty investment but the added possibility of game time in midfield will really catch the attention of Fantasy managers.

In a game played under sweltering conditions, the pace began to slow as the match progressed but Taarabt maintained his strong recent form and continued to provide plenty menace going forward. It was no surprise when the Moroccan and Fabio were involved in the visitors’ winner; their combination eventually played in Jamie Mackie on the right, with the sub teeing up Bobby Zamora to slot home. The former Fulham man has now notched in all three of his side’s games so far and, priced at 6.5 in FPL and 8.2 in the Sky Sports game, may be one to watch going into the new season.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Cerny 45), Onuoha, Ferdinand (Doughty 45), Connolly, Hill (Ehmer), Fabio (Harriman), Taarabt, Diakite (Park), Traore (Wright-Phillips), Zamora (Ephraim), Helguson (Mackie 45).

In Other News…
Tim Cahill may well have played his last game for Everton after the club confirmed they have accepted a bid of £1m from New York Red Bulls for the Australian’s services. Cahill – who is due to serve a three-match suspension at the start of the season after his dismissal in the Toffees’ final league match of 2011/12 – was a huge disappointment last time round, notching just twice in 35 appearances, and his likely departure now increases the chances of other candidates in David Moyes’ first XI.

With the Everton boss favouring a 4-5-1, a role in “the hole” is up for grabs now – Marouane Fellaini, Leon Osman and Steven Naismith seem the most obvious options; the Belgian impressed there towards the end of the previous campaign, notably in the 4-4 draw against United, but Naismith’s partnership with Nikica Jelavic at Glasgow Rangers may work in his favour. Certainly, Fellaini and Osman hold the most appeal from an Fantasy perspective, mainly as Naismith is classified as a forward in both FPL and the Sky Sports game. All three come in at 6.5 in FPL, though Fellaini is definitely the most intriguing in the Sky game; at 6.1, he is far cheaper than Osman (7.5), with Naismith setting you back 6.7. The move perhaps edges Steven Pienaar towards a Toffees return. With Cahill’s exit helping Moyes balance the books, the South African could be poised to make his way back to Goodison from Spurs – averaging over 5 ppg during his loan spell last term, Pienaar was outstanding value for money and, coming in at 6.5 in FPL this time round, is surely set to pick up plenty investment if he seals his move back to Merseyside.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s central defensive worries show no sign of abating, with the news that United skipper Nemanja Vidic may not be fit in time for the new season. The Serb missed the vast majority of the previous campaign and was expected to be ready for the opener at Everton on Monday August 20 but the Old Trafford boss admitted there are question marks hanging over both Vidic and Jonny Evans, going on to tell a press conference in Shanghai:

It’s not 100 per cent that Jonny Evans and Vida will start the season. Jonny will start running today. Vida and Phil Jones started full training today, which is very positive. If I can keep Rio fit, then Vidic and Jones should give us ample cover.

With Chris Smalling ruled out for 10 weeks due to a metatarsal injury and Evans still recovering from an ankle injury, Scott Wootton has partnered Rio Ferdinand at centre-half in the club’s two pre-season matches thus far. Jones has now returned to training after time off due to Euro 2012 duties, however, and could now come into contention in our Fantasy thinking if Vidic and Evans fail to recover in time; both Jones and Ferdinand are priced at 6.0 in FPL and come in at 7.0 and 6.8 respectively in the Sky Sports game.

I can't believe people there's any chance Clichy won't start GW1 if he's fit. He played 28 Premiership games to Kolarov's 12 last season, and has only improved and will be more nailed on to start this season.

Let me re-phrase that so you can understand.
Clichy started 28 games, Kolarov 10 (with 2 substitution appearances.)

            Clichy = 2487 mins

That is 27.6 games in total.

So that is counting all his sub cameos too.

So he may have started about 23, 24 games?

Which means he didnt start about 15 games, which is about 40%!!!

I think that is a valid reason not to get Clichy.

If he did start 28 games & never came on as a sub, that means that he didnt play 1 in every 4 games.

Out of the 28 games, he only kept 12 clean sheets.

At £6m, there are better options.

I like how Clichy was never subbed on last season. I'd rather have my benched guys come on than him for a point so that works out. I'm still on Lescott now, but if I need the 0.5 I might swap.

The problem is the 10 he didn't start. Were they the games that were easier and Kolarov, in which case you could be missing out on clean sheets in addition to relying on an autosub.

is Walker really worth it - despite emerging as a great player, he is quite conservative in his movement and doesnt come off the right flank much - and with lennon in front wont go too far either
he;s scored a few specatcular goals fair enough, but gotta ask wiilll Spurs' defensive returns be enough?
Kaboul the better option IMHO - look at his stats as well, played awesome last year

What was the last succesful rotation you had?

Seems that all I can remember were disasters. Moses last season scoring & assisting only in away games. Fletcher scoring againt top teams. Rotating goalkeepers have never worked out for me (or you). The ONLY success I remember from previous 2 seasons has been Walters for the first half of last season when he scored, assisted and boned in home games and did nothing away.

Rotation works on paper but not in reality (fantasy). Admit it.

I think it's worth it for cheap GKs/defenders as the chance of regular clean sheets from anyone other than the top 3 or 4 teams is low. Can't see it ever bringing much of an advantage for mids/strikers though.

Just read an article on BBC about Lingaard pushing to be Uniteds first choice keeper this season. Does this put any uncertainty over DDG do we think or just about of pre season banter?

I gather player prices update around midnight- will making transfers/ wildcard any time after match and before then avoid shift in player value? Seems most people considering a torres -> rooney (or similar) so will doing a transfer before midnight mean you get any player price increase (well 50% of it)?

As player prices determined by the majority (which i imagine are more casual users) will motd/ papers have a big impact, especially in the first week where lots of people will change teams/ wildcard?

I guess.. is it worth investing heavily in players that will fly more under radar until season starts e.g. cueller, jenkinson, pog, michu etc in hope their value will increase as people rush towards them.. or does this not really happen?

Michu will increase dramatically if he's as good as we think. He'll have a low ownership at the start as many won't know who he is. Last year it took between 22 and 23 thousand transfers in for price to increase by .1m

As you say players with lower ownership will increase the most if they perform

He was okay. I didn't see anything in him that justified his 9.5 price tag though. Ramires was by far a greater threat and Lampard was very deep as usual. Marin was the stand out performer for me.

Anyone here know anything about CAD. Currently running AutoCAD 2006 and need to upgrade. Only use it for basic plans, eleveations, garden designs, etc, so don't need anything fancy shmancy. Would appreciate if anyone in the know could tell me best options and where best to purchase at best price (needs to be legit).

    Cheers 🙂

I'm a Project / Design Engineer and have used Solidworks for 7 years now. Absolutely amazing tool for 3D design but costs ~£1000 ish for a license.

You could always try Draftsight which is available free from Solidworks and it's essentially the same as AutoCAD. I haven't used AutoCAD since 2005 though. It's 2D only though.

Oh and there's Google Sketch-up which is available for free and capable of 3D design. I haven't personally used it though so can't give first hand experience of it other than I haven't heard anything bad about it.

I am also a design engineer and use CAD regularly for work. If you just want to draw basic plans/elevations then Sketch-up is perfect for that. It's straight-forward to use and not 'fancy shmancy'.

I don't know if the formatting will stay put, but there are United's "hard" fixtures and their corresponding rotation schedules with the most popular 4.5 GKs.

Stoke and Reading look good in rotation with United's hard fixtures. I'm not saying you would PLAY them, but just incase you don't want to play DeGea for some of these fixtures, here's a rough choice.

On further comparison between Stoke and Reading, we see that Reading have the better fixture rotation, also note they have WBA in GW 22 when Stoke have CHE, you wouldn't want to play Begovic then would you.

Just a small analysis. Nothing great, but I hope it makes life easier for some of you.

PS: Again, if this post gets posted with screwed up formatting. I'm sorry!

Fox got 11 assists for Southampton last season and he's a 4.5 defender... i reckon him/fabio are decent shouts.

Also Ryan Nelson at 4.0... one of Mark Hughes' favourites - he should start and might even score a few...

Also anyone reckon Gervinho at 7.5 is a decent shout, or is Podolski gonna take his place?

Fox is on some corners, and with Hooiveld/Lambert has a target... good shout.

Clyne @4.0m is also intriguing, but I'd wait for a Saints defender for our fixtrues to pick up. That plus with possibly a couple of new CBs and a new GK coming in, could minimise our clean sheer earning potential.

Just had another look at the three team rotation spreadsheet and saw that Fulham, Sunderland and Wigan.rotate very well. Anyone found a better three man defensive combo?

P.S I've gone for some other two man rotations e.g N'Zog and Noble in midfield, does this mean I should not involve those teams again in my three man defence rotation.

    Thank you.

Nothing like that. But that's a slightly expensive rotation though.

      Fulham (5.0) - Sunderland (4.5) - Wigan (4.5)

There a quite a few 4.0-4.0-4.5 rotations out there.
