Marouanne Fellaini towers above the United defence to earn three points for Everton as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are shackled, with Robin Van Persie reduced to a cameo role. Here’s the stock check following the Goodison clash…

On The Up

Marouanne Fellaini
Pushed up in support of Nikaca Jelavic, the big Belgian was imperious and led the line with strength and composure. It’s not clear if David Moyes will persist with Fellaini in the role, with Steven Naismith and new signing Kevin Mirallas, the Everton boss clearly has options. However, this promises to be a big season for Fellaini and at 6.5 in the FPL and 4.7 in the Sky Sports Game, Fantasy managers may well be rethinking Steven Pienaar as the protagonist in Everton’s midfield ranks.

The Everton Defence
Moyes’ rearguard was defiant throughout and magnificent to a man. Leighton Baines delivered his first clean sheet of the season – he remains the luxury item in the Toffees back four but, on this form, a strong haul of clean sheets over the season could be in the offing to help justify the outlay.

David De Gea
While United struggled in attacking terms, De Gea stood firm against a first half blue tide, pulling off notable saves to keep the score deadlocked at the interval. With Anders Lindegaard breathing down his neck, the Spaniard has to produce. Tonight he was arguably United’s most impressive performer – he had to be.

Going Down

Wayne Rooney
Rooney was the danger man for United but Sir Alex Ferguson’s attacking players were far from potent. While they dominated possession and passed the ball well, they lacked a cutting edge and a direct threat. Rooney’s owners will go into the weekend clash with Fulham concerned that Robin Van Persie will be called upon to provide that, while Rooney retreats deep.

United’s Widemen
Ferguson appeared to allow his attacking players fluidity with Shinji Kawaga and Rooney interchanging up front or drifting deep to pick up the ball. The uncertainty surrounding Kawaga’s role and the likelihood of a Rooney/Van Persie pairing will cause concern. It appears we could see Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck and Kawaga competing for two starts in wide areas throughout the season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

mata won't be rotated. He's too versatile. Ramires will drop deeper or drop to the bench if Oscar is going to start to get regular starts. He'll start vs. reading. He's too spotty though to be a strong fantasy prospect longer term.

Kagawa played really well by all accounts. Did he do enough to get a start in the next few games? Was planning on doing Carzola - VDV, but with doubts over him starting I might go for another mid eg michu, kagawa, siggie, or just keep carzola

keep Carzorla and wait on Kagawa. Kagawa's still likely to shift deeper or wide when RVP is match fit. If he stays central and attacking, he's a great buy, but we don't know. Carzorla was the only thing Arsenal had going for them this weekend... he's high on my radar.

      kagawa played well yesterday...
united are lacking a creative CM and kagawa is purchased from Dortmund for that role.. a more attacking role.. which he did quite well yesterday...with some good fixtures in the kitty, i would surely go for kagawa...

michu is another option.. but you can't simply rate him based on one single performance..
on the other angle, Swansea have the best fixtures..so michu is also a tempting offer..

sigurdson didn't do quite well in the game against newcastle..if going for a spurs player, then bale is the one i will opt..

i want cazorla to be in your team...

i wrote the other prospects because i thought you might sell him and was asking for someone good from other teams...

if your decision is to stick with cazorla then its the best i would say..

I'm trying it. Its kind of like the cheap thrill version of FPL -- no restrictions on transfers or team value, you can basically bet for free on the highest scorers of each week. All the leaders bet big on 1-3 players, which looks more viable than spreading it out. 20+ shares of Lambert and Bale for me this week... who knows

I don't think it works like that. It seems that a players' value grows strictly as a function of the points they score on the weekend. So Michu who got however many points (I think 14 w/o game time and bonus) will be +14 from his original price regardless of whether you bought him last week or whether you buy him on Friday night. The share price trades at his current price no matter what, so there's no point in picking value over time: just pick the coming weeks winners, and you have more cash to spend if you made more the prior week. Again, that's what I think is happening, but I'd love to hear anyone one elses take.

            http://playerexchange.premierleague.com/rules/

Check Player value changes tab. If a players value changes then your portfolio value changes and you get a percentage if it increases. Nothing to do with the FF buy in and selling, just buying and selling in the exchange. I have Michu, in FF and in exchange. In exchange he got 14 points, 2 goals, 1 assist, 1 clean sheet. Nothing for bonus or minutes played. But his ownership in exchange will increase and you'll get a percent of that based on my understanding of the rules. Like any stocks, you'll get a dividend when more are sold. If you buy Michu on Friday you'll gain nothing unless you get that percent based on more buying him. Luckily I had him last week by only got a couple of shares. You're right though. If Michu's FF price goes to 7.0m by the weekend it won't benefit you before the deadline.

Right, except that you don't get any % of his ownership increase. It says right in that rules link you posted: "Player share values are updated at the end of each day of matches in a Gameweek and only change based on performance, not trading activity."

I saw this in an example from my team with Vermalen. Verm went from 140 to 144 base on his 4pts clean sheet. If i want to buy any more Verm shares next week, it costs me 144 per share, not my original 140.

The more closely I think about it though, the less sure I am of whether or not you can build value in players over time. I own my original verm shares, so if he keeps going up, at least I don't have to buy at a higher price... so in a way locking in a few shares in a good player at his starting price does benefit you...hmm.. back to the drawing board, i think

Alright, I've reevaluated my strategy after seeing Fellaini dominate when pushed up front supporting Jelavic.

Mata to Fellaini this week, then Torres to RVP next week (provided RVP plays well).

    Leaving me with:

    Mignolet, Begovic
A Cole, Rafael, Lescott, Tierney, Hangeland
    Fellaini, VDV, Nasri, Allen, Dyer
    RVP, Tevez, Graham

Thoughts? McClean > Fellaini? Rooney > RVP?

Fellaini did well up front cos he tried staying clear of Vidic an going head-to-head with Carrick who couldn't tackle a fish supper. Fellaini's very good but won't dominate like that against two good centre backs.

    Friedel (Fed)
Zabaleta - Ivanovic - Hangeland (Clyne - Demel)
Yaya - Bale - Dyer - Mata (Noble)
    Torres+2 (c) - Tevez - Petric

Got me a lazy 78 points and all feels good but...
    1) Bring in DDG for Friedel? Spurs dominated large portions and still conceded 2!
    2) Mata seems flat and Hazard scored big... is he worth bringing in?
    2) Improve anywhere else by going Mata/Bale to Kagawa for some $$ to use elsewhere?

Mata to someone cheaper for the sake of RVP could work. However, I'd say Mata to Nasri or Ben Arfa would be better. They're more established. Kagawa got 2pts and is unlikely to keep his position.

Yes, one more mistake like that and he will be gone. Saying that, green still manages to be number 1 at a premier league football club, so there is much hope!

Federici was solid last year - they won't be in any hurry to get rid of him after one mistake. Taylor will just replace their departing back up.

Why are some people using their WCs, when the window is still open. By the time it reaches the final deadline there would be so many moves that it will ruin most peoples teams etc like certain starters now won't be then or new big names arrive and then having to take plenty of hits to get them.

Stop knee jerking and just take one hit if you need too. Like myself I'm going to do Rafael>Williams and Hoilett>Michu. Then I'll wait until when the window closes or the week after to see how certain players are performing to use my WC if I need to.

Kag will come out good you'll see. Patience MOK. You have a great team. It will pay off over the season. It's just the first out of 38 rounds. It;s a marathon. No Michu concerns me a bit. Plus Ramires shouild not be in your team. Cheers, Good luck

I've sorted the Michu issue - Guthrie,Cole & Ramires were just hopeful punts for the DGW with a view to replacing as strong options started to present themselves. I'm not too worried about the atrocious start (I know there will be more bad weeks 😉 ). I'm definitely hanging onto Kagawa for a while - I think he shows the most promise of MU's mids.

I'll probably hang onto Aguero for next week - it was just him to Rooney would have been a nice easy move if Roo had been showing decent form, and I made the mistake last year of not jumping on the early Rooney scoring run until it was near enough over...

only thing is that in gameweek one..haha..i had nani instead of bale who did nothing,,and since tott have 2 home games..and bale hit the bar or post once or twice..i really fancy him vs brom

Two Man Utd/Man City defenders are unnecessary. Anita isn't a starter. I have Bale as well but I am hesitant to captain him because West Brom look quite strong. I think I might prefer Tevez vs Liverpool since he'll probably be up against Carragher who should have retired a few years ago.

Out of curiousity, did you watch West Brom? I didn't watch that game this weekend, and Bale captain is my current plan. Did they really look strong? Didn't Suarez get like 8 attempts on goal by himself?

          i watched!
bale in his game was really lively..unlucky not to get a goal or assist one..he hit the bar or post..one of it..i forgot..

as for suarez..he got into great areas and got shots off..but..his finishing was terrible..
he even fired the ball above the goal from like two yards out

thats why either tevez or bale is my choice...or to play save..a utd defender

WBA look strong (closing gaps, attacking with intent, made it hard for Liverpool to play with passing swagger) but Liverpool didn't turn up (I felt like they were playing in a training match) so I can't really say how Spurs will do against them. With that said I do fancy Bale. He was really unlucky against newcastle. I see him at least bagging or assisting one goal against Westbrom....

I have a hard time choosing as I do not have a clear cut premium player to rest the armband on week in week out....Tevez against Liverpool? (tough) Pod against stoke (may reap rewards but too risky), I am going with bale... Least risk and still have a potential for reward...
