Marouanne Fellaini towers above the United defence to earn three points for Everton as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are shackled, with Robin Van Persie reduced to a cameo role. Here’s the stock check following the Goodison clash…

On The Up

Marouanne Fellaini
Pushed up in support of Nikaca Jelavic, the big Belgian was imperious and led the line with strength and composure. It’s not clear if David Moyes will persist with Fellaini in the role, with Steven Naismith and new signing Kevin Mirallas, the Everton boss clearly has options. However, this promises to be a big season for Fellaini and at 6.5 in the FPL and 4.7 in the Sky Sports Game, Fantasy managers may well be rethinking Steven Pienaar as the protagonist in Everton’s midfield ranks.

The Everton Defence
Moyes’ rearguard was defiant throughout and magnificent to a man. Leighton Baines delivered his first clean sheet of the season – he remains the luxury item in the Toffees back four but, on this form, a strong haul of clean sheets over the season could be in the offing to help justify the outlay.

David De Gea
While United struggled in attacking terms, De Gea stood firm against a first half blue tide, pulling off notable saves to keep the score deadlocked at the interval. With Anders Lindegaard breathing down his neck, the Spaniard has to produce. Tonight he was arguably United’s most impressive performer – he had to be.

Going Down

Wayne Rooney
Rooney was the danger man for United but Sir Alex Ferguson’s attacking players were far from potent. While they dominated possession and passed the ball well, they lacked a cutting edge and a direct threat. Rooney’s owners will go into the weekend clash with Fulham concerned that Robin Van Persie will be called upon to provide that, while Rooney retreats deep.

United’s Widemen
Ferguson appeared to allow his attacking players fluidity with Shinji Kawaga and Rooney interchanging up front or drifting deep to pick up the ball. The uncertainty surrounding Kawaga’s role and the likelihood of a Rooney/Van Persie pairing will cause concern. It appears we could see Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck and Kawaga competing for two starts in wide areas throughout the season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm new to this game, is it bad to have your team value go down by 0.1? Should I swop Aguero out or wait?

The only reason I'd wait on transferring Aguero out is if you have Chelsea players to lose before GW3. Otherwise Aguero to Tevez really has to be a no brainer in the short term.

Other than a couple of entirely random decisions (like when people got bonus for playing 10 mins and doing nothing a couple of seasons ago!), I preferred the old system to this new PPI system.

From the games I've watched this weekend, none of the BP's have reflected the best players. I mean how Ba got joint 3 when he did nothing apart from his goal whilst HBA got the same PPI as him and was awesome.

I'd be interested to see how the Baines one was calculated. Fellaini - scored clean sheet hardly a misplaced pass, won every aerial challenge and didn't get booked. Baines seemed less attacking with pienaar in front

Why is everyone so down on taking a 4 point hit? IMO, early season is the best time to take a hit. You can jump on some price risers and get your team a little more settled, in terms of starters.
Most will have one or two in their squads who don't look like certain starters. Throw into the mix the DGW GW1 complications and the Aguero injury too.
I did Ramires to Michu last night and I'm dumping Aguero tonight.
It's a big gamble as I have 3 Chels and 1 Reading (any of whom could get injured on Wed).
But it's a gamble I'm willing to take so early on.

The plan was Rooney but he didn't look good tonight at all (plus I have Valencia who hopefully should return to the wing).
The other option is someone like Defoe (short term) and use the cash to do Torres to RVP in GW3

If Torres plays the full 90 vs Reading and flops, do we think he'll get a rest at NEW?

If not, he will have played 4 x 90 mins in 10 days. This is either a genuine concern, or I'm trying to talk myself into Torres -> RVP(c) for a hit!

    Stick or twist!?

The big clue is starting your post with IF.

Yeah, if he gets a rest on Wed then he'll almost certainly start against NEW. That said, they want his confidence to improve - benching him after a week 1 blank surely unlikely?

Just wait! RVP isn't going up in price at all so see how Torres does on Wednesday. Chill Winston!

Chill, Winston, it's me. Charlie knows it's me. What's the problem?
The problem, Willie, is that Charles and yourself are not the quickest of cats at the best of times. So just do as I say and keep the fu*king cage locked!

Reckon it might have originated from how cool, calm and collected Winston Churchill was during WWII, but haven't the foggiest!!

It's from the Lenny Henry Show, Delbert Wilkins.

The character who played Winston was also in Lock Stock, funnily enough.

I really can't see him not starting tbh. The only other option is Sturridge and RDM didn't play him much at the end of last season, don't think he rates him.

Yeah, even if they sign a new striker, it's probably unlikely they'll start at the w/e. Sturridge also injured isn't he?

Don't think so, he was on the bench at the weekend I think.

No idea why they've bought all these midfielders and no one to replace Drogba. Maybe they're gonna try a Spain! 🙂

Agree with that decision. Certainly no pressing need for a 4pt hit.

What's the go with VDV? Is he likely to lose minutes to Siggy all season or will Siggy be pushed back after Modric (probably) leaves?

At 9m, I can't afford to have him on the bench.
