Marouane Fellaini torments United from start to finish and hands Everton the three points after heading home from a corner. The Toffees continue the strong home form displayed at the end of last season, while United’s two new boys produce contrasting performances as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side get off to a losing start:

Marouane Fellaini
Tucking in behind Nikica Jelavic in David Moyes’ trusted 4-5-1 formation, the Belgian’s aerial ability proved the undoing of United time and again. With Everton targeting the visitors full-backs with long, diagonal balls, Fellaini continually put Sir Alex Ferguson’s side under pressure and grabbed the only goal of the game as Everton pulled off the first shock of the season. As to whether he will continue to play as far more is perhaps debatable – Kevin Mirallas wasn’t registered in time for the game and is also versatile enough to play fill the position but at 6.5 in FPL and 6.1 in the Sky Sports game, Fellaini is sure to see plenty investment before the weekend’s trip to Villa.

Everton Defence
Perhaps last night’s result wasn’t quite as shocking as the media suggest. Everton closed out last season with six clean sheets in their last eight at Goodison and their defensive resilience was at the fore once again last night with an intelligent, well-drilled display ensuring they kicked off the season with a victory. Tony Hibbert and Sylvain Distin come in at 5.5 in FPL and if the Toffees maintain their superb form at the back in front of their supporters, the duo look decent value. With only two home matches in the next seven Gameweeks, though, many will overlook Moyes’ defenders, bearing in mind that Swansea and Spurs play at home five times over the same period.

David De Gea
The Spaniard produced a strong performance between the sticks to surely cement his place as United’s number one. Priced at 6.0 in FPL, De Gea certainly looks firmly in the driving seat ahead of Anders Lindegaard, with his 14.2% ownership on the rise on the back of last night’s heroics.

Shinji Kagawa
Handed the role in “the hole” behind Wayne Rooney with Danny Welbeck and Nani on the flanks, the summer signing looked a class apart but – in a similar story to that of Santi Cazorla on Saturday – failed to produce the points on his debut. What was noticeable is that Kagawa was handed 90 minutes – perhaps a sign of his manager’s faith, with Welbeck, Nani and Tom Cleverley the men to make way when Ferguson sent on the subs. At 8.5, he’s the lowest priced of United attacking midfielders and, with Antonio Valencia featuring at right-back last night, Kagawa looks a promising Fantasy prospect with (FUL, sot, WIG) to follow despite last night’s frustrating blank.

Robin Van Persie
Handed a substitute role midway through the second-half after Ferguson chose to field Wayne Rooney as a lone striker, the Dutchman had an anonymous debut. The Fantasy conundrum between the pair was, if anything, exacerbated by last night’s viewing – United maintained the 4-2-3-1 formation upon Van Persie’s arrival, with the two forwards both taking it in turns to drop deeper and drift out wide as the visitors chased the game. Intriguingly, Van Persie was immediately handed corners from the right hand side – Nani retained the left side, though Rooney took over after the Portuguese man was withdrawn. With the above-mentioned three games to follow, many will still be ready to gamble ahead of the weekend – let’s hope Ferguson’s Friday morning press conference is a little more revealing than usual. Post-match, the United boss was a little critical of his other players, suggesting he expects better service for the Dutchman in order for United to prosper:

We were a wee bit disappointing in terms of finishing off the approach play we had. We played around him (Van Persie) too much, we didn’t show enough penetration. With Robin in your team you know you want to use his ability against centre-backs in situations he is very good at – but we didn’t use him enough.

I understand Wenger was fighting to keep him at the club until the last minute when he got an acceptable bid. It was thought that buying those two would go some way to persuading him the club was going places. Now it's true Giroud was reported as a replacement for RVP, but I've always understood that as a backup plan so Arsenal weren't screwed if the worst happened.

I don't get the logic behind taking a 4-point hit to transfer in a player, who for all we know could score 2 points or worse in the next game week. Even if the player you're transferring out gives you a blank, that's still better than -2.

That relies on the assumption that the trade is done just for one gameweek's return which is not true for loads of transfers being mooted, Michu for a start, where the fixtures promise to pay off much more than that. If you've made a decent pick you could well pay it all off in one assist + possible BPs.

Uhm, but still.. if you take a hit this gw to bring in Michu, he MUST score atleast 4 more than the player transfered out (just to break even) if he dont, just would do better just to wait one gw and make it a free transfer...

Equally you could miss him making a big score and your later transfer is then less attractive. You can't predict when they're gonna score, and you use up a later transfer you could have used to get someone else useful in. That's an "opportunity cost".

Its just crazy imo, u have to be 100% sure that the player you transfer in will outscore the one you transfer out with ATLEAST 4 points just to break even...

To break even ... for that single gameweek! Transfers have a value too, yes a value that is worth points. Losing next week's transfer may cost you more than you realize. Let's say you didn't have a free transfer for this week and you couldn't get Michu. You wouldn't be very pleased.

Or you were planning on getting someone else in with that transfer and you ended up having to get Michu in instead, causing you to miss out on that someone's points. Or one of your players got injured and you couldn't transfer him out. This is FPL. Plans don't stick, this gameweek is telling you exactly that.

Just remember that the player you are transfering out could score, aswell as the player you transfer in..
Bottom line, if u take a hit. the player MUST score 4 (or more) more than the player your taking out...

Well, obv u have to bench one or take a hit.. and a hit should be out of the question imo.
Any other players injured or so?
I only got 2 CHE, just to make it easier and to be able to do a forced transfer if anyone got injured

I've got the same 3. I'm holding this week and will be ditching 2 or maybe only 1. Lamps will definitely go for Siggy/Vdv or Kagawa. I'm seriously thinking of holding onto Torres. He will have to show something in the next 2 games mind

I have Terry, Mata and Torres

For me Terry and Mata are locked into my side all year so there not going anywhere.

May downgrade Torres to DeFoe in GW3 with Tottenham having Norwich and benching the other two.

If i need to im willing to use a 'Wildcard' in GW3

      I did Ramires -> Michu at 6.5

After GW2, I'll probably go Mata -> Pienaar or Mata -> Bale. I'm a South African gooner, so I'll probably go Mata -> Pienaar.

I'm keeping Terry, Guthrie and Federici for GW3. Will have only one sub available and have Kolorov and Miyaichi in my team. 8|

One of the two? Looking quite likely especially if Ramires doesn't make it back for Wednesday. I expect Chelsea to go about as attacking as they can under Di Matteo (just over the halfway line, basically). Oscar on the right, Hazard on left, Mata in the hole again possibly.

Eurosport app is free and not too bad when it gets to commentaries to be fair. They also have push notifications (which you will have to set up for each team though).
Also, not kidding you here, but from your iPhone, the BBC web app is pretty cool for commentary too. Only issue is no push notification so you need to refresh the page
