The flag stayed down to allow Fernando Torres to deliver on a night that saw Hazard sparkle again. Brave Reading went home with nothing but put up a fight as their budget options confirmed their potential. Let’s check the stock…

On the Up

Eden Hazard
Five assists marks a remarkable start to Hazard’s Fantasy season and already confirms him as a major Fantasy asset. He’s mesmerising skill and pace, combined with the freedom to join the attack from all areas, has thrust Hazard to the top of our midfield shopping list – once the Gameweek 3 blank has passed of course.

Frank Lampard
Lampard may well rely on spot-kicks for returns but with Hazard in the side, he looks set to get plenty of them. The Belgian’s tricky feet are drawing fouls, seemingly handing Chelsea deadballs and penalties aplenty.

Fernando Torres
Torres left it late but he eventually delivered on the captaincy with a goal that just about justified the faith shown in him. We will still look to Hazard and wonder what might have been, while Robin Van Persie still looks ridiculously tempting for those with the funds to wave goodbye to El Nino for the weekend. It’s still a big decision for those with cracks elsewhere and with bandwagons rolling.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian delivered on his budget promise with a superb glancing header to bring Reading on terms. Pogrebnyak looks destined to lead the line home and away for the Royals and, as we’ve stressed all through the pre-season, offers a superb third striker option for those looking to reserve funds.

Danny Guthrie
Talking of budget options, Reading look to have a mix of them. The widemen Jobi McAnuff and Gareth McClearly put in strong displays again but it will be Guthrie, playing up in support of the lone striker and at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, that will rouse interest.

Going Down

Petr Cech
A calamitous error for Reading’s second goal drew visible frustration from manager Roberto Di Matteo and will give cause concern for those holding Chelsea defenders. We’ve seen his confidence waver in previous seasons. Worrying.

Juan Mata
While Hazard, Lampard and Torres delivered returns, Mata was the odd one out, offering two blanks over the double Gameweek. We know that Di Matteo is planning a rest for the playmaker, while it’s doubtful that this will start early against Newcastle, it’s not out of the question given the jaded performances so far.

Adam Le Fondre
Brian McDermot started tonight’s game in a 4-5-1, pushing Guthrie up to support Pogrebnyak. Le Fondre dropped to the bench then and will presumably be at risk when Reading are on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For the Swansea style of play, I think the ''in the hole'' position will get more points than the wide ones. But I dont know, Laudrup is still making his own changes.

I do not understand why people are so fixated on Team Value. Your true team value can only be calculated by removing all players on your team and seeing how much you have available to spend.

imo....your team value is still 100.0 as you do not have any double risers

Be chasing someone in a few months, try to get his team and don't have the money, then you will know why people are so fixated on Team Value.
You need to think in the longer time not just for now, save as much as you can, rise the team value as much as you can.

I understand how to play the game and the long term value of having an increased budget later in the season. However, you missed my point... Your TRUE team value is not the ACTUAL value shown on FPL. Ie. you buy Michu at 6.5.....by week 13 his value is 8.5. On the FPL site your team value is listed as +2.0m when in actual fact it is only +1 million.

This is an old article from Zonal Marking but is surprisingly relevant to us looking to invest in the current United attack:

    http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/05/11/manchester-uniteds-attacking-options/

Basically explains that United failed to score enough goals in the 2009-2010 season because they did not have a versatile attack - they had few players who could play in multiple attacking positions.

United have signed Van Persie who can play advanced, deep or wide forward. Kagawa can play in the hole or on the wing. They already have Rooney who of course can play advanced, deep and has played wide before.

"Ronaldo and Tevez were so useful for United in recent years not merely because of their ability, but because of their versatility. Both players could play on the left, on the right, as a central striker or just off the front."

Subsitute Van Persie and Kagawa for Ronaldo and Tevez and you have a versatile attacking three for United again. This may be what we're gonna get, in which case Kagawa jumps out as a huge player to have. As well as whoever turns out playing as Ronaldo - will that be RVP?

In my opinion, midfield is the place to invest. Apart from City, the 'Top 5' have their best FPL options in the middle of the park with uncertainty up top over reliability (Torres), game time (Ade will lose matches to Defoe imo) or competition within the team ( UNited)

      Tottenham - Bale
      Arsenal - Cazorla
      United - Kagawa
      Chelsea - Hazard, etc.

The real question is which to pick

I'm with you on this one. For me United need to build a team around the likes of Rooney, RVP and Kagawa. The Kagawa's flexibility and creativity is precisely the ingredient needed at United. I'm beginning to think this guy is nailed on and crucial to the United attack.

Of course we can speculate on what this means in the formation. Those are 3 players that would appear to be central players in any formation. So does this mean 5 attackers when you include the wingers? I don't think so, football is more flexible than that with defenders moving up to fill gaps in midfield and likewise Rooney dropping deep to help out defensively, likewise wingers have the ability do drop in more centrally and allow fullbacks to provide width.

    Cole A Williams Zabaleta

Michu (v) Kagawa (c) Yaya Toure Pienaar

    Podolski Torres Tevez

    Subs: Ruddy, Noble, Mcartney, Pearce

    Who would you rather have:

    a) McClean (already have Cuellar)
    b) Larsson (as above)
    c) Dyer (already have Graham)
    d) somebody else for 6.5 or less

This will enable my Mata & Torres > RVP & a,b,c or d

      Has to be Mata.

I have midfield of bale, carzola, britton, noble, mata.

Kagawa, Nasri and Yaya are the best bets. And I don't see Nasri being dropped if City continue to play 4-2-2-2. And with Aguero out for a month or so, they'll need that creative spark from Nasri.

Podolski was really poor. I thought for sure he was ahead of Gervinho in the pecking order (provided that Giroud ultimately leads the line), but Gervinho looked so much better. Podolski will get 2-3 games on the left in my opinion, but if he plays like he did this week, Gervinho will have to come in.

yeah, Gervinho is not a fantasy prospect by any means (he should be though, theoretically -- he's skillful enough till he gets in front of goal, at which point he panics). But Gervinho's real-life play impacts Podolski's fantasy points. I could really see Pod getting rotated if Gervinho and Giroud both establish a little form.

I'm a Man Utd fan and am 100% backing RVP over Rooney.

SAF didnt spend 20-odd mil for a benchwarmer for starters. I think RVP (if fit) will start 90% of our games and he will be the main striker.

Before we even signed RVP it was always Rooney who was played OOP on the wings or in a deeper central role with Wellbeck or Chico furthest forward. So to think that one of the top 5 strikers in the world (RVP) will be played OOP so Roon can play as the main striker doesnt make any sense to me.

Of course I think RVP is a risk until he has been bedded into the team but its a risk I am willing to take listening to Fergies post-everton comments and the fact that we lost and didnt score in our first game. RVP on from the start seems the perfect remedy from SAF.

Pienaar to Michu before his price rise Sunday. Probably going without United this weekend, even though that's waht the original 4.5m saved were for

    Going into GW2 with this:

    Federici
    Cole - Clyne - Vertonghen
    Bale - Cazorla - Toure - Mata
    Graham - Bent - Tevez

    Jaask - Noble - Fabio - Hangeland

Thinking Mata > Kagawa is my best option this week. Agree?

Managed to scrape (17pts) a win with only the 15th biggest score in Heathenwick. Hardly prolific is it?

Gylfernal Affairs will be looking to improve next round versus the only team to win it's tie with an even smaller score. FA Bash-a-lona. Anyone know exactly who Mubasha Hussain is on 'ere?

It's a sideways move imo. Chelsea also doesn't have a match in GW3. I would say no.

Is it wise to take a hit to bring RVP for GW2? Cashley will be be downgraded to make room for him.

only for people who can't field a decent first 11 in gw2 and 3, 'cause of qpr and southampton players as well as chelsea/reading players gw3 for example..

also if you're thinking more long term, utd's fixtures are not very good after GW4 or so, lots of big guns to come.

Taking a hit is intrinsically unwise. It's a gamble that might pay off. Are you sure RVP will start at all?

After United's performance against Everon and Fergie's comments, I am quite certain. Although Fergie can't really be trusted. Should I wait for 1 more week then?

"Should I wait for 1 more week then?" is what you should be asking yourself.

What is it that you hope to gain, and could you put that off another week?

If your other forwards aren't great then I don't see why not ... but I'll assume you have at least one other decent striker - in which case don't take the hit unless it's really necessary - hope that made sense lol
