The flag stayed down to allow Fernando Torres to deliver on a night that saw Hazard sparkle again. Brave Reading went home with nothing but put up a fight as their budget options confirmed their potential. Let’s check the stock…

On the Up

Eden Hazard
Five assists marks a remarkable start to Hazard’s Fantasy season and already confirms him as a major Fantasy asset. He’s mesmerising skill and pace, combined with the freedom to join the attack from all areas, has thrust Hazard to the top of our midfield shopping list – once the Gameweek 3 blank has passed of course.

Frank Lampard
Lampard may well rely on spot-kicks for returns but with Hazard in the side, he looks set to get plenty of them. The Belgian’s tricky feet are drawing fouls, seemingly handing Chelsea deadballs and penalties aplenty.

Fernando Torres
Torres left it late but he eventually delivered on the captaincy with a goal that just about justified the faith shown in him. We will still look to Hazard and wonder what might have been, while Robin Van Persie still looks ridiculously tempting for those with the funds to wave goodbye to El Nino for the weekend. It’s still a big decision for those with cracks elsewhere and with bandwagons rolling.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian delivered on his budget promise with a superb glancing header to bring Reading on terms. Pogrebnyak looks destined to lead the line home and away for the Royals and, as we’ve stressed all through the pre-season, offers a superb third striker option for those looking to reserve funds.

Danny Guthrie
Talking of budget options, Reading look to have a mix of them. The widemen Jobi McAnuff and Gareth McClearly put in strong displays again but it will be Guthrie, playing up in support of the lone striker and at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, that will rouse interest.

Going Down

Petr Cech
A calamitous error for Reading’s second goal drew visible frustration from manager Roberto Di Matteo and will give cause concern for those holding Chelsea defenders. We’ve seen his confidence waver in previous seasons. Worrying.

Juan Mata
While Hazard, Lampard and Torres delivered returns, Mata was the odd one out, offering two blanks over the double Gameweek. We know that Di Matteo is planning a rest for the playmaker, while it’s doubtful that this will start early against Newcastle, it’s not out of the question given the jaded performances so far.

Adam Le Fondre
Brian McDermot started tonight’s game in a 4-5-1, pushing Guthrie up to support Pogrebnyak. Le Fondre dropped to the bench then and will presumably be at risk when Reading are on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hmm... Who would you captain GW2 out of this lot: Valencia (vs Fulham at home), Bale (vs WBA at home), Torres or Hazard (vs N'castle at home) or Danny Graham (vs West Ham at home)?

    nasri, michu, bale, pienaar, graham, tevez, torres are my front 7. thinking tevez might be the best captain material. surely if wba can beat pool 3-0 you'd think city could smash em! or should i be looking more at bale and the two swans players for my captain? any other thoughts on this?

      even though WBA put three past LIV, the chances that MCI will smash them is limited.

      Bale for safety. Graham for a punt. Tevez for a cheeky punt.

          WBA played at home. Liv had a new manager for his first game in charge. Now Liv at home. Rodgers would have taken the hairdryers out...Liv should be up for it. They are playing the League champs after all.

          If the football worked like that, shouldn't Liverpool have finished higher than Newcastle and Arsenal last year? We did beat them both!

          Gera's goal was an absolute screamer, and then they were awarded two (soft as hell) penalties. We really did not deserve to lose 3-0 and the game on Sunday will be very different.

          I think liverpool have a chance of beating the champs this weekend. They have a history of beating teams that are in form. Last week wasnt even too bad until the red card. No team could have stopped that opening goal from west brom. It was just a perfect strike

    Weeeeeeellll hit the transfer button a bit too early after a sodding weekend and a Belgian beer...12 points when I awoke Monday morning. I may as well hit the wildcard button now right lads? Get this for an amusing way to lose a H2H.

      9 mins to go and I'm 3 points ahead, with possible BPs for Lampard and Guthrie over my rival (he had Cashley and Pog). So Cole gets an assist on 81mins, and we're all square, with me still just about fancying my 2 players over his for BPs.

      Then the Ivanovic goal comes on 95mins, knocking a point off my Federici to give him the lead, and nothing changed with the BPs.

        Yeah, I wild carded with the first Int break last year as well, and it turned out well. Build some teamvalue over the 2 weeks, assess possible injuries due to International fixtures and get clarity on Dempsey/Rvp vs Rooney/Adebayor/Ba vs Cisse and the Aguero injury.

        Also makes it possible for me to get the Michu's/Petric's/Guthrie's/Hazard's of this world if they are still fit and the flavour of the month. Without any hits.

        Someone mentioned that there is no swing in fixtures after gw 3, but I disagree. I wan't everton/new players and since i don't have any of them it makes sense for me to WC.

          Ay, good call. Was thinking of hitting the WC button now because of that same fact that I am missing some Newcastle/everton in my life. (and because I'm already 12 pts in the a-hole). Completely forgot about that international break though...might as well use it then as well, and I did follow suit and used mine right after the international break last year too. I don't think i'm going for either Rooney or RVP btw...my last striker spot needs to be filled with one that is like unto my coffee...strong and black. (Ba, duh.) 😉

        Agree that Pienaar over the season, but short-term, Fellaini was a beast vs. United. Was game plan calculated on United makeshift and shaky backline though, and Moyes may not have Fellaini up top as much against teams with more settled defenses. Also, when Naismith settles in, he may play in that hole behind the front and push Fellaini a bit further back. Naismith's prior time with Jelavic at Rangers may turn into a nice partnership as season moves on

    Some interesting toon news. Cisse is in the squad tonight, while Ba stayed at home. Read into that what you will. It could mean that a) ba is the main man and being kept fresh for a centre forward role against chelsea or b) ba isn't fit enough to travel, c) something else

    I highly doubt we will play 4-4-2 against chelsea. I would have expected cisse up front, with ba either on the left or on the bench. But this latest news casts doubt on that!

    A) no one, keep the points but have 1 less player wk3
    B) Bale then capt him as easy fixtures.
    C) Kagawa
    D) Hazard, get on bandwagon but don't have him wk3

    I already have Michu. Option B was my plan for weeks, but I'm starting to waver now given the goings on.

      Don't take a hit, Mata at home v Newcastle could produce returns then transfer out next week for Bale or Kagawa or Cazorla (this is easier if you link your team btw)

        Might not be able to get Bale since Mata's price will fall to 9.4. hazard already up to 9.6

              Should I transfer out Maloney. He only played 47 minutes. Did he get injured? Is he nailed on? I'm downgrading Aguero to Tevez, so can upgrade him to a decent mid.

              A) Torres out for RVP/Ade for a 4pt hit?

              Or

              B) Sit tight for a week?

              I'm leaning towards A as I think they've both got more chance of scoring, but who to pick?

              Kicking.myself as I had Hazard and Guthrie in my team all the way through pre-season and right up until about 11:28 and then decided to put Bale in (for Spurs "coverage") and HRK.

              Ended up on 70 points but could have been a good 25 points better off.

              Love this place, but its another classic case of paying too much attention to FFS and not my own instincts.

              Lesson learnt.

                Great Story, cry me a river.

                I got 55pts and you don't hear me whining do you?

                I had Hazard, Lampard, Ivanovic, etc. all throughout preseason as well.

                Plus i had 32pts on my bench this week.

                So just remember when you think you have it bad, some have it worse.

              Cashley Cuellar Zabaleta
              Taarabt Bale Michu Cazorla

                Ride the price rises out on Ivanovic then look at Baines/Verm as a replacement should another RB arrive

                  but if another RB doesn't arrive would you stick with ivanovic or switch to baines with his pens, fk's attacking runs, crosses and beautiful fixtures?

                In order to bring in Rooney for Torres, I need to do one of the following transfers….

                A) A Hole -> Clark (to rotate with McAuley who I currently have)
                B) Mata -> Michu
                C) Mata -> Dyer
                D) Cazorla -> Michu
                E) Cazorla -> Dyer
                F) Yaya -> Dyer

                Currently have Graham as my only Swansea player. Thoughts?

                      😆

                      Love it when this happens. Has happened with me a fair few times in the past.
