The flag stayed down to allow Fernando Torres to deliver on a night that saw Hazard sparkle again. Brave Reading went home with nothing but put up a fight as their budget options confirmed their potential. Let’s check the stock…

On the Up

Eden Hazard
Five assists marks a remarkable start to Hazard’s Fantasy season and already confirms him as a major Fantasy asset. He’s mesmerising skill and pace, combined with the freedom to join the attack from all areas, has thrust Hazard to the top of our midfield shopping list – once the Gameweek 3 blank has passed of course.

Frank Lampard
Lampard may well rely on spot-kicks for returns but with Hazard in the side, he looks set to get plenty of them. The Belgian’s tricky feet are drawing fouls, seemingly handing Chelsea deadballs and penalties aplenty.

Fernando Torres
Torres left it late but he eventually delivered on the captaincy with a goal that just about justified the faith shown in him. We will still look to Hazard and wonder what might have been, while Robin Van Persie still looks ridiculously tempting for those with the funds to wave goodbye to El Nino for the weekend. It’s still a big decision for those with cracks elsewhere and with bandwagons rolling.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian delivered on his budget promise with a superb glancing header to bring Reading on terms. Pogrebnyak looks destined to lead the line home and away for the Royals and, as we’ve stressed all through the pre-season, offers a superb third striker option for those looking to reserve funds.

Danny Guthrie
Talking of budget options, Reading look to have a mix of them. The widemen Jobi McAnuff and Gareth McClearly put in strong displays again but it will be Guthrie, playing up in support of the lone striker and at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, that will rouse interest.

Going Down

Petr Cech
A calamitous error for Reading’s second goal drew visible frustration from manager Roberto Di Matteo and will give cause concern for those holding Chelsea defenders. We’ve seen his confidence waver in previous seasons. Worrying.

Juan Mata
While Hazard, Lampard and Torres delivered returns, Mata was the odd one out, offering two blanks over the double Gameweek. We know that Di Matteo is planning a rest for the playmaker, while it’s doubtful that this will start early against Newcastle, it’s not out of the question given the jaded performances so far.

Adam Le Fondre
Brian McDermot started tonight’s game in a 4-5-1, pushing Guthrie up to support Pogrebnyak. Le Fondre dropped to the bench then and will presumably be at risk when Reading are on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Right then....

GW2 team to face JK, MsRed19 & TheLightKnight:

    Mingolet;
    Rafael, Ivanovic, Clyne;
    Bale, Lampard, Taarabt, Maloney;
    Rooney(c), Torres, Tevez.

    JussiJ; Noble, Fabio, Hughes

    1FT, Bank:£0.0m

Was thinking of carrying the transfer and waiting see how the Chelsea trio do, if they fail i'll get rid of all three for a 4 pointer next week, if Torres or Lampard perform then i'll look to get rid of Taarabt if he fails to deliver.

    Thoughts?

You know, I don't like it when people do this, speculate the what if's, but I really have a strong case of that this week.

I'm on 80 points. Not too bad compared to some, and certainly a better start than last year, but I feel bitter already.

If I had chosen Ivanovic and Hazard over Cole and Mata and captained Ivan, I'd be on 125 points.

That's it. 2 changes worth 45 points. It's painful considering I had both players in early drafts and opted for the other two. I'm sure I'm not alone either.

Yep, in the same boat mate. 74 for me this week - Ivan was in my team all summer, right up until 10 mins before the deadline. That poxy news on Podolski leading the line sucked me in! Still it's a big improvement on GW1 last year and remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint.... 🙂

Any chelsea combination was as good as any other pre-GW1... bar Ramires. Unlucky this week.

Shot up into the top 1000 within the first 6 weeks and then continued my good form.

The opening weeks are really crucial. Getting a good start nets you team value which will give you a leg up right from the start. If you play even moderately well, you should be able to maintain your rank in the top 1000.

I'm doing alright compared to last year where I was ranked 1 million + after the first week. But the year before when I cracked top 100, I had an opening GW rank of 62,000 or so.

Ever close to the top 10 that year? Or at least speculatively close (i.e. looking at your team going into a GW, and the points gap between you and the top 10 or top 20, and thinking its manageable?). You must have had your hopes up some weeks, right?

Santon or S Taylor. I think Santon could get down a lot on the left particularly as the left-sided winger Gutierrez is pretty defensive so there might be assists there. S Taylor for the glory when he scores.

I'd say just Arteta to Michu. I don't see the "good" fixtures for Sunderland that people are mentioning. Keep the 1.5 for the following week, it will be more valuable in liquid form than if it was invested in McClean. Both players are too similar in their overall FPL role (steady-ish earners, with explosive potential), so get one to fill that role and put the cash toward a bigger hitter.

Gonna have a dilemma on your hands when GW2 finishes and you have to decide whether to keep Ivanovic for his blank or transfer him to someone epic like Baines. Ivanovic looks like attacking gold right now, the two goals were no flukes. You could make a profit by selling him after these rises then buying him back after he falls due to the blank, But that would be a wasted transfer.

I think so about possibility of Mata. I know points > price and hit should be avoid and Chelsea have a blank on Gw3.. Do you think it's worth a hit to do side way move Mata -> Hazard? It will preserve my team value as I believe Mata will see price drop before Gw2 and Harzard could rise at least twice by weekend,.

Personally I wouldn't, he has a tough fixture next followed by a blank. The odds of him paying back 4 points more than the best alternative transfer look slim to me. If you want to improve team value, just maybe.

Nothing for the first few weeks given the freebie wildcard and all that last year. First international break kicked things off nicely (did very well out of Dzeko and Aguero), then got RVP super early... I pretty much gave up worrying about team value after January, think was at about 110 by then... I do feel early hits are worthwhile if you make more than 0.2 out of them (2200 points over a season / 100 mil says that 0.1 in team value is worth 2.2 points)... Thus the temptation to do Lamps - Hazard right now...

Yeah I did that calculation in response to a question by Lateriser yesterday - came to a similar answer. It does make you think, but surely I have more pressing transfers. Intending to get Rooney & Dyer or RVP & Michu in, have only missed the rises so far because I wanted as much information as possible.

Do think Ivan has shot his wad and C ole has been getting forward more, Just that Ivan is prolly 2 goal on 2 shots and when he jumped into the play his timing was perfect, Kind of like shooting at 100%

Well, you know, some players are just good at it. People kept saying Pog was lucky, but here he is scoring again. From what I see Ivanovic does consistently not only go further forward than Cole but goes more central and is willing to shoot. Cole rarely tries to shoot and can't anyway!

Honestly speaking West Brom didn't out play Liverpool at all. The first goal was amazing from them, then the two pk's came. The first was avoidable, the second was a little weak imo. Lukakus goal was a laspse in marking. They really are nothing special just happened to get some luck that day. Tottenham should thrash em.

Am I crazy for wanting to use my wild card already? I feel like I need hazard if I'm going to keep up with points but it would take me three weeks to get all the transfers around to get him in and do a little changing after watching arsenal suck it up. So please either someone talk me out of this or push me through!
BTW I'm at 80 points for the week. and this is my current team

Using your WC just because you really want 1 player is a no-no. See your WC another way, what if you had could use it for a DGW? It might be worth 40 points or more. I doubt what you're suggesting is anywhere near that.

Even 4 players is really borderline for a WC. WCing is way overboard if you got 80 points and have lots of good prospects. Looking at your team

          Good OK
          Good Good Good OK Good
          Good Good Good OK Bad
          OK Good OK

Don't do it. Craziness with Chelsea blank GW3. He'll rise 0.2 this week, then all the casuals will realize cr*p CFC have no game this week and freeze. If you have to play the wildcard wait till the international break. Transfer in a new team at the beginning of it aimed ONLY at catching price rises, wait until the very end and bring your real team back in.

This bonus point system makes no sense to me. How does hazard get 3 assists and not get a single bonus point, while cahill scores one goal and gets 3? Not sure how you could watch that game on not feel like hazard was not far and away the most effective player on the pitch.

Plus CFC conceded 2 goals, so why BAPS to a defender? Stupid stupid system...

    Vorm (Davis)
Baines - Ivan - Clyne (Riise, McCartney)
Michu - Cazorla - Nasri - Hazard (Guthrie)
    Torres - Tevez - Graham

    Sound team for GW2?
Stuck on who should get the armband. Leaning towards Graham.

Thinking Torres > Podolski next week, benching Hazard for Guthrie, and maybe bringing in Noble GW4.

You really think carzola? Even with those fixtures? I have him, but am thinking of getting somebody else to cover his next 4 poor fixtures
