The flag stayed down to allow Fernando Torres to deliver on a night that saw Hazard sparkle again. Brave Reading went home with nothing but put up a fight as their budget options confirmed their potential. Let’s check the stock…

On the Up

Eden Hazard
Five assists marks a remarkable start to Hazard’s Fantasy season and already confirms him as a major Fantasy asset. He’s mesmerising skill and pace, combined with the freedom to join the attack from all areas, has thrust Hazard to the top of our midfield shopping list – once the Gameweek 3 blank has passed of course.

Frank Lampard
Lampard may well rely on spot-kicks for returns but with Hazard in the side, he looks set to get plenty of them. The Belgian’s tricky feet are drawing fouls, seemingly handing Chelsea deadballs and penalties aplenty.

Fernando Torres
Torres left it late but he eventually delivered on the captaincy with a goal that just about justified the faith shown in him. We will still look to Hazard and wonder what might have been, while Robin Van Persie still looks ridiculously tempting for those with the funds to wave goodbye to El Nino for the weekend. It’s still a big decision for those with cracks elsewhere and with bandwagons rolling.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian delivered on his budget promise with a superb glancing header to bring Reading on terms. Pogrebnyak looks destined to lead the line home and away for the Royals and, as we’ve stressed all through the pre-season, offers a superb third striker option for those looking to reserve funds.

Danny Guthrie
Talking of budget options, Reading look to have a mix of them. The widemen Jobi McAnuff and Gareth McClearly put in strong displays again but it will be Guthrie, playing up in support of the lone striker and at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, that will rouse interest.

Going Down

Petr Cech
A calamitous error for Reading’s second goal drew visible frustration from manager Roberto Di Matteo and will give cause concern for those holding Chelsea defenders. We’ve seen his confidence waver in previous seasons. Worrying.

Juan Mata
While Hazard, Lampard and Torres delivered returns, Mata was the odd one out, offering two blanks over the double Gameweek. We know that Di Matteo is planning a rest for the playmaker, while it’s doubtful that this will start early against Newcastle, it’s not out of the question given the jaded performances so far.

Adam Le Fondre
Brian McDermot started tonight’s game in a 4-5-1, pushing Guthrie up to support Pogrebnyak. Le Fondre dropped to the bench then and will presumably be at risk when Reading are on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Need help...

I am on 77 pts and leading my mini-league (yes, we are less skillfull compared to typical FFS folks). All my rivals are between 70-75 pts. We have a monthly prize of $200 for GM August (GW1 + GW2)

I already used my FT to get Michu. One issue that I have is Aguero, so it looks like that I have to play with 2 strikers, or take a hit.

    Fed (jaask)
Iva Zab Clyne (demel r bennett)
    Bale Michu Nzog Dyer (guthrie)
    Torres Tevez (Kun)

    My options are:
A - play 4-4-2 with Demel (whm) or Bennett (QPR, although might not play coz of Bassong)
    B - play 3-5-2 with Guthrie
    C - replace Kun with RVP/Rooney -4 pts

Given the slender lead (2pts), which options should I take? thanks

Who's got the price drops about right so far this season?

TotalFPL have Mata at 62%, FISO @ 103%

    That's quite a difference! Who's right (ish)

Didnt do too bad in the end with 58 pts. Already madethe michu for mata transfer before price rise. I just wonder if i should bring in a man utd attack cover in for the hit now or wait because im not sure if my starting 11 is good enough? Right now my bench is fed noble demel hangeland…… Have plenty in the bank as well

Torres's 1 bonus point is interesting - he had 6 shots, 5 of which were off target.

This would seem to be evidence that they've removed the penalty for shots off target!

For those of you in any of the head to head leagues, does your match up affect your transfers? I'm trying desperately to think long term, rather than just this weeks match up with ENR, but its hard. I just see a 9m midfielder sat in my team with an away fixture at stoke and get the urge to transfer him out for a man utd or spurs mid. Must resist............

I do some of both tbh. trying to mostly think long term this season but will probably be affected by a couple h2h's especially as the season draws to a close and i'm either fighting for CL, europa, or to not be relgated!

last season i really wanted to do well in the fpl cup so i focused on opponents teams then and then did the same thing again (though to a slightly lesser extent) during the CL

honestly you need a fine balance of both. or be able to just lose one h2h so that you are set to win the next 3-5 for example.

          B) Trappistes Rocheforte 10, a fine Belgian quadrupel, at 11%

Hey Zep, hard luck this week. What's the plan for GW2 - still Torres -> Rooney? Or will you save it and unleash all kinds of hell on GW3?

I'm not sure tbh, Jinny... right now my train of thought is to give Torres another game, and maybe make 2 freebies next week... that gives me more flexibility...

I don't really see any more than a 2-0 against Fulham either and could be hard to predict who scores them...

Pretty good score for you this week though, well done...

Cheers pal. I'll take it, although I'm a bit annoyed with myself as I did have Michu and Ivanovic in there until 10 mins before the deadline 🙁

Anyway, it's a much better start than last year when I was in the bottom 50%

I know the feeling... I had Ivanovic, Lampard, Dyer, Petric and even Ridgewell (after a gut feeling I had) in my team in the last few days before deadline, but none of them made it into the final team...

Only myself to blame, but I really need to open myself up more to my gut feelings and avoid being influenced away from those feelings...

That's my main aim this year...

    my not-so-tasty options for GW2:

    1) Aguero on the bench for a few weeks and play 2 up front? (Graham + Tevez)

    2) Aguero > ? (up to 12m)

    3) Ramires > ? (up to 7.5m)

that would give the MUN cover for a home game at OT after a painful defeat to EVE.

i'm just not sure Rooney is what i'm looking for.

You could gamble on Bent or Lambert I guess but Rooney is the safe play I think.

I don't really like it, but since he's apparently out for a month I think Aguero has to go, and in that price range it probably has to be Rooney.

Another alternative is Ramires -> a 6.5m or below mid this week (benching Aguero) and then wait another week to decide the RVP vs Rooney conundrum.

indeed. but, as mentioned above, a pissed off MUN team at OT is a thing of beauty (figuratively speaking).

Hate to dump Aguero if he's going to be back in a few weeks, but that's a lot of money to relegate to the bench, and no guarantee of how well he plays even when he does come back.

Who is more likely to keep their spot in the starting line up this season out of McCartney(WHU) or Demel(WHU) at 4.0

      tricky.

Demel was being touted as the best cheap option but McCartney looks just as good a bet. you wanting WHM or just a 4m cheapo?

Just a 4.0 DEF. West ham just seem to have a pretty decent run til around gameweek 10. might get 2-4 clean sheets. anyone else u recommend?

Anyone fancy a cheeky punt on Saha?

5.5million certainly a ceap third striker
I can see Sunderland being way too strong for a tired Reading side

Well well that Hazardboy made this quite difficult, what are your thoughts on gw3 =>

    a) 2 big hitters in midfield + rvp/rooney
    b) 3 big hitters in midfield + ade/suarez/jelavic/someone

At least for me, 3 big mid + rvp/roo would reaquire about million transfers..

hba for the time being. especially since he's suspended for 3 or 4 matches in europa. maybe bring ba in a couple weeks from now if he's banging them in

These bonus points are a joke. How on earth did Ivan and Torres get them and Hazard not? The Belgian was sublime, the aforementioned were both dirt.
