Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres produce a goal and assist apiece as Chelsea maintain their winning start to the season. Michu and the Swansea wingmen are amongst the Fantasy points once again, Robin Van Persie takes 10 minutes to open his United account, while Marouane Fellaini notches in back-to-back matches as Everton grab the points at Villa…

Eden Hazard
A goal and assist against Newcastle continued the former Lille man’s sublime start to the season. Hazard’s potential is also boosted by the fact he seems to be on spot-kicks when Frank Lampard is absent –after last night’s exploits, he has now played a part in seven of Chelsea’s eight goals and is clearly set to be a huge Fantasy favourite for the campaign ahead. He’s already risen 0.2 and is set to climb in price yet again to 9.8 in FPL, despite the fact he has a blank Gameweek next weekend. With a double figure points haul in all three of his games now, Hazard has already accrued 34 points – Juan Mata has eight in comparison and with Lampard featuring briefly as a second-half sub, Hazard is looking almost possible to ignore for Fantasy managers already.

Fernando Torres
Equalling Hazard’s goal and assist contribution after executing a superbly-taken finish from outside the box, Torres picked up maximum bonus in FPL – confidence returned, he is clearly flourishing following the influx of new recruits. Factor in his goal against City in the Community Shield and the much-maligned Blues forward has now scored three and provided an assist in four matches – hardly a man out of form. With Hazard and Mata weaving their magic behind him, Torres looks set to continue in the same vein and with his place under little threat right now, that transfer-out that many had pencilled in may be put on hold as we start to reassess our Chelsea options in light of the three matches so far.

The only question mark against Torres will be whether Fantasy managers will be reluctant to use up a slot in their forward line and potentially double up on Chelsea assets with Hazard in the midfield. The likes of Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie look the strongest and most secure options in the City and United lineups, while arguably Hazard is the leading Fantasy attraction on Roberto Di Matteo’s teamsheet.

The Swansea Midfield
There’s just no stopping Michu after he notched another in yesterday’s stroll over West Ham. The summer signing leapt 0.3 in price in the FPL last week but the investors continue to line up for a piece of the action ahead of a strong run of fixtures – Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge also continued to plunder the Fantasy points with an assist apiece and with Danny Graham also breaking his scoring duck, the Welsh outfit offer plenty of mid-price options with four home fixtures in the next six Gameweeks to follow. It’s hard to argue against one, if not two of their attacking options right now.

The Swansea Defence
While the attackers rip apart opposition defences, Michael Laudrup’s backline has been equally impressive. We had our doubts as to whether a more offensive style of play would dent Swansea’s defensive potential after last term’s 14 cleans sheets but so far, it’s been two clean sheets from their first couple of Gameweeks. With Angel Rangel also chipping in with a goal and the maximum bonus points, the hike in price for Swansea defenders across the Fantasy games is currently looking decent value for money. While the centre-backs will be a threat from set-plays, on yesterday’s showing, Rangel is enjoying his football under Laudrup and could well enjoy improved attacking returns as a result of the Swan’s new cutting edge.

Robin Van Persie
Handed the starting role as Wayne Rooney dropped to the bench, the Dutchman needed just 10 minutes to announce himself to the home fans on his Old Trafford debut. With Rooney now likely to be sidelined for around four weeks according to his manager, Van Persie looks nailed on for a starting role for the trip to Southampton and home clash with Wigan in the next couple of Gameweeks at least. Goals looks likely to follow and if he can replicate his Arsenal form from last season, he looks a strong armband candidate for many, having picked up the maximum bonus for his display in the 3-2 win.

The United Midfield
At the moment, only Shinji Kagawa looks the likeliest to maintain a regular role of United’s attacking midfielders – a real source of frustration for Fantasy managers. In a clear reaction to the defeat at Everton, Sir Alex Ferguson dropped Nani to the bench, moving Antonio Valencia onto the right wing, while Danny Welbeck made way for Ashley Young on the opposite flank – although Valencia has also started both the opening matches, his right-back role at Goodison is something of a worry for his owners. Rafael returned to defence and grabbed a goal but his defensive frailties on the road, allied with Phil Jones’ current absence, means Valencia could yet return to right-back on occasion. While Kagawa looks to be a strong option, in the long-term, the potential partnership between Rooney and Van Persie will likely increase the threat of rotation – the role behind Van Persie will surely be taken up by Rooney, leaving Kagawa to fight it out for a wide berth. Unless, of course, Ferguson shifts formation to accommodate both his playmaker options. The tactical nuances available to Ferguson are fascinating but that’s far from good news for Fantasy managers looking to pin down attacking potential.

Leighton Baines
The left-back turned in another superb creative performance yesterday, with his partnership with Steven Pienaar proving a crucial aspect of Everton’s attacking forays. Having returned a nine point haul in Gameweek 1, Baines picked up an assist in the win at Aston Villa and, after dropping in price this season across the Fantasy games in light of a disappointing previous campaign, he may well begin to pick up in popularity, as the Toffees go against type and get off to a flying start. Defensively they remain sound, while Baines is amongst the most creative players in the league after just two weeks. The EA SPORTS PPI also smiles on Baines – attacking contributions by defenders, when paired with clean sheets or a victory, are always likely to trigger a high return and potential bonus points.

Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar
It’s two goals in two games for the big Belgian as Everton saw off Villa in a 3-1 away win. Fellaini continued in his support striker role, thrust up with Nikaca Jelevic with Steven Naismith drafted in to tuck in from the right side of midfield. With a strong run of fixtures to follow, Fellaini’s mid-price offering across te Fantasy games is surely set to rise. The same applies to Pienaar – the South African also found the net and his suitability to the EA SPORTS PPI scoring system continued with the maximum bonus points at Villa Park. The Pienaar vs Fellaini contest within Everton’s midfield is a close call with both offering obvious mid-price value. Acquiring one of the pair to cover Everton’s form looks a very wise move if either Baines or Jelavic is out of reach.

      He is a great player, think he's a bargain at 8.5.

      Aside from FPL, he has been United's best player in the opening two games too, so I can't see him being rotated.

      Kagawa was excellent, worked hard to present for defenders to play out and was busy around the box going forward. Was unlucky not to score a second and was the dangerous all day. Seems a bit unselfish which is great for MANU but not great for us fantasy owners.
      With Rooney injured he is assured of starts next 3 GW in the hole and will thrive with RVP as they develop an better understanding.

        Would like some Spurs players, but can't afford any of the good ones and by now would have to take a hit after Rooney>RVP

        Newcastle have Villa at home in GW3, so hopefully the double New works okay there, as I certainly can't put in Fabio or Clyne who play City and United, nor Hazard without a game.

    Would appreciate your view on the following:

    The corpse that is Charles Nzogbia > Dyer this week for a hit?

    Cannot afford Michu (have Graham and am stubbornly sticking to my guns until at least the international break) as I only have .3 in bank. Team linked with Torres now RVP.

            So the transfer could be done after the International break as long as price is not an issue . Swans play Sunderland and they're quite solid at the back. Would take an assist from Dyer just to neutralize the hit .

          I went with Begovic, but it's a little worrying.
          That said, it normally takes 2-3 really poor games for Pulis to change his mind, and even last season he ended up going back to Begovic.

          Classic error to think hes a rotation risk - if he does switch keepers he tends to do it for a long period not the odd game.

    1 less transfer would have moved me up about 3000 places overall. If I take a hit to get RVP in that's 4 points plus two more transfers, it equates to about 38000 places. It makes quite a difference at this stage.

              I honestly don't see Barfa outscoring Pienaar over the next 3-4 GWs mate. For me it's Pienaar - getting him myself and ditching Lampard

      I wouldn't say so, he's nailed on for 2 (albeit very good games) games, but once Rooney comes back and Champions League football kicks in during the middle of Septmeber he'll be a rotation risk in the PL again. There's always a chance you could end up with a 2pt (c) like Rooney yesterday.

    Who are you Rooney owners going to get to replace him.

    I have Tevez, Torres and Rooney up front but only 0.4m in the bank.

    Worth a hit to get RVP or shall i go with:

    1) Graham

    2) Petric

    3) Someone else (if so. then who)

    Thank you/

      I've taken a hit (Bale-Kagawa) to get Rooney out for RvP. Worth the 4 pts surely - RvP will oustcore Graham and Petric by 4 pts in no time at all.

    Is this mental?

    Having RVP would be awesome, but it involves a wildcard and a gutting of my defence (which was a bit crap anyway).

    Current team:

    Mignolet (Federici)
    Clark, Zabaleta, Ivanovic (Tierney, Coloccini)
    Pienaar, Michu, Yaya Toure, Hazard, Valenicia
    Tevez, Torres (Petric)

    Transfers:
    Coloccini (injured?) -> Cuellar
    Zabaleta (hasn't done anything for me yet) -> McCartney
    Tierney (sucks) -> Clyne
    Clark (red card) -> Jenkinson
    Valencia (feel unsure about this one) -> Kacaniklic
    and
    Petric -> RVP

    My wildcard is active, and I would like to insert Kagawa for short term use in the next couple of gameweeks (don't like his long term rotation possibilities). Already have Hazard, RVP, Baines, Zaba. The only way I can do this is as follows:

    Vorm out; Friedel in
    Vermaelen out; Rangel in
    McClean out; Kagawa in

    I'm a big Vermaelen fan -- type of player that you I would just like to leave in the whole season and wait for the points to accrue. I'm also not a Tottenham-cleansheet fan -- BUT a midfield of Hazard, Michu, Kagawa and Fellaini is surely not a bad thing in the short term?

    There has been a lot of discussion regarding the value of RVP and whether he is worth while when in combination with other players. I was in a fortunate position to have 2FT's this week. This gave me the opportunity to consider the right combination of players as well as rid myself of Chelsea assets.

    Essentially it came down to

    A) RVP & Michu (getting Hazard GW4 for Chelsea cover)
    B) Torres & Kagawa + slightly more $ in defence.

    I chose A) because getting RVP enabled me to not have a United midfielder opening up an easy route to get both Hazard and Michu into my team. The only sacrifice was downgrading Ivan to Jenkinson (4.5m) (instead of a 5.5m defender) for a hit to fund the transfers and to have cash in the bank to get Hazard next week.

    In all I think RVP has enabled me to have a better balance of player combinations as well as allowing me to get on the early season bandwagons. It meant RVP over Kagawa, Hazard over Torres and have Michu.

      It is a conundrum. I decided to go the Kawaga route along with Hazard, Michu. It m ay change during my traditional Intl break WC though.

      Biggest problem I'm finding is that newbie/casual knee jerkers are making it all move too quickly for steady decision making.

      Do FPL need to look at the price rising next year?

        Its a worthy point. The bandwagons are rising every so fast. Its driving people to get them in simply through fear of missing out.

    I'm in the position now where I know the team I want to wc to next gw during the international break. The problem is that values are rising so fast that I won't be able to afford it if I wait. It makes sense to pull the trigger a week early to get the team you want. Long term it will put me in a better position.

        iv just checked your team. it is decent enough to resist the urge. prices will rise even more during international break.

        most likely the players u want in atm will be no use to you in gameweek 3 ie hazard and maybe cazorla.

      No. It is simply the fear of not being able to afford players. To think you can't afford the likes of Hazard or Michu because they rose 0.5-1m doesn't make them unaffordable. There is always plenty of value players out there to make it work.

      Allow the WC. You have a sick team. Use your WC when you actually need it later in the season. e.g. a double game week nearer the end of the year.

      I reckon your team won't even change so much when you WC. Just work out a way to get Hazard into the team in 2 weeks time. That's all you need to do.

      RVP, Tevez, Graham, Bale, Michu, Toure... You have quite a solid team atm.
