[sbu_large_image] The Stock Check

City suffer more anxiety attacks but, again, overcome QPR to earn the three points with some familiar names again amongst the returns. Here’s the stock check from the day’s final encounter…

On the Up

Carlos Tevez
The overwhelming captaincy favourite this weekend, he didn’t let us down. Tevez played a part in all his side’s three goals – providing assists for the first two before grabbing the third, he currently sits on 24 FPL points pre-bonus, with the maximum looking likely. Those who opted for the Van Persie option will now have a uncomfortable 90 minutes ahead of them.

Yaya Toure
Once again, the Ivorian delivered for his Fantasy owners. Toure’s opener against QPR means he has produced attacking returns in all three of City’s games so far; cheaper than the likes of Samir Nasri and David Silva across the Fantasy games, he is proving to be the main contender from Mancini’s midfield and can expect plenty of suitors over the international break.

Edin Dzeko
The Bosnian striker has his doubters but, once again, he cropped up with a vital goal. While Tevez is overwhelming the strongest attacking option in the City lineup, Dzeko now appears to be in the box seat for starts alongside him; particularly now that Mario Balotelli is facing a month out due to an eye operation.

Going Down

The City Defence
Three games, no clean sheets. It’s a bit of a worry for owners of Vincent Kompany and Joe Hart – both are priced highly across the Fantasy games due to their near guaranteed selection but with City continuing to leak goals at the back, the pair could well be shed from squads as we reassess our line-ups. Rotation is a constant worry – just ask Gael Clichy owners – while Pablo Zabaleta was withdrawn with a “slight” hamstring twinge.

Djibril Cisse
Dropped to the bench to make way for a change in shape, Cisse, along with Adel Taarabt, Junior Hoilett and Bobby Zamora, looks far from secure as Hughes shuffles his attacking options match to match.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thinking of WCing and upgrading graham as Michu is enough swans cover IMO. Opinions needed as still not sure if 3 big hitters is worth it.

    Begovic/Jaask
    Ivan/Ridgewell/Cuellar/Rangel/Demel
    Michu/Pienaar/Nolan/Hazard/Guthrie

Your defence is threadbare - van Persie is not worth anything close to £13.2m.

Yeah, cause there have been so many cleansheets so far. Defenses need to get sorted before big money has to be invested. RVP will bring so many goals, rise a bunch and no one will be able to afford him 😀 Then if he dips in form, sell for mass profit in a WC.

    Current team:

    Friedel/Federici
    Cole/Zabaleta/Clyne/Hughes/Bennett
    Bale/Taarabt/Sess.Santi/Maloney
    RVP/Tevez/Pog

Looking at doing Bale & Sess > Hazard & Michu. 2 understandable transfers but the thing putting me off is i've still got Taarabt/Bennett/Friedel & probably Zabaleta i need to get rid of.

Would others wildcard or try get rid of the deadwood first?

I really hope RVP matches Tevez (c) points. I have both, so I would say that 😉
But seriously, it was an incredibly tough decision and if RVP does well, we won't see all the ..."HAHAHA RVP FAIL" posts that will invariably come.
Let's all be hippy style friends and end the weekend as FFS brothers...rating each others teams and potential transfers and giving each other an internet-style sympathetic pat-on-the-shoulder if things didn't work out.
Right, that's me off to bed, I'm a bit sozzled.

PS...I feel like I'm the only fcckker around here that owns Tony Valencia...hoping for big things from him tomoro...have we all forgotten how good he is?

    Friedel - Federici
    Ivanovic - Demel - Clyne - Cuellar - Zabaleta
    Michu - Bale - Yaya - Kaca - Kagawa
    Torres - Tevez - Graham

    £2.4M in the bank.

I'm actually not wanting Hazard particularly, due to my feeling that chelsea will be outplayed against the big teams much in the way they were against atletico madrid. And with 3 of the top teams in the next 6, I may be able to ride out any potential returns he gets until the fixtures look brighter.

But im concerned about getting rid of Friedel, zabaleta and kaca, and am thinking about potentially WC'ing.
    What do we reckon?

Similar situation to me. I have Friedel, Zabaleta & Taarabt i really need rid of.

I do want to WC but at the same time i know it will come in useful later on in the season so i'm trying to hold on to it.

IMO you can get by without using it just now. Just gotta make the right decision on which player to get rid of first.

I put them booth in comparison tool and first game Fellaini was much better, but last two Pienaar.

Just toying with what the WC team could be two weeks from now:

    Jussi, Begovic
Baines, Boyce, Cuellar, Davies, 5m def (NEW/WBA/another)
    Hazard, Kagawa, Michu, Nolan, Guthrie
    RVP, Tevez, Berbatov

Currently this leaves 1m in the bank though it will be a little more once I've done some WC money making.

I almost got Nolan instead of Pienaar this week. The guy has always scored a lot of goals. I'm correcting the mistake while on wildcard. I'm aware of Guthrie's impending drop but thanks for pointing it out anyway, have a team of risers in at the moment.

You wouldn't be saying that about Boyce if he scored one of his chances today 😛

Doesn't matter, its the fun of it! Actually it did this time. Now, I dont think about that transfer on its own, i also add the extra transfer i can can do afterwards and that opens so many more doors. I will let you know when i finish 800.000 at the end of the season.

i was about to say it's weird how WBA have had the second most shots inside the box conceded, and yet have only conceded 1 goal (the best in the league out of those who've played thrice). then i remembered their first two games were against liverpool and strikerless spurs. xD

I have paranoia to thank for dodging numerous bullets today in my WC. Completely illogical in many cases. Was considering Chico against Rangel, went with the fullback for attacking points. The CB got injured. Considered Bale(C) - got saved by my memories of Bale (C) last week! Didn't get Zab for fear of Maicon rotation - Zab pulled his hamstring. The final one is early days - Went for Graham over Petric too for fears of Berbatov affecting him - Petric was subbed off for Berbs.

Nicely dodged! I was toying with keeping Hazard on my WC and covering Spurs with Dembele (really rate him). Played it safe with Bale and Pienaar (benched) instead though. 🙁

Am considering a 4pt hit to correct it...

I really wouldn't get Dembele in long term because I don't think his position will be that promising. Best case scenario maybe a poor man's Yaya in a poor man's Man City 😉 Hazard of course, yes. But Pienaar will have many glorious weeks ahead of him. Is there anyone else you can downgrade to switch Bale to Haz?

    Pleased to Michu

I'm slightly concerned having no Utd attacking coverage for their next game at home to Wigan, but I just can't fit anyone in - or rather, there's no-one I really want. Valencia and A.Young are two players I absolutely loathe, Kagawa probably looks the best option now that Ferguson has alienated his best midfielder in Nani.

It's usually Rooney, Rooney, Rooney with me though... I love the man. In fact, I think I'll just wait until he comes back.

Yes but Valencia doesn't have Beckams range of passing or the kind of cross completion %ages. When all you've got is speed and you've only got one foot that means you can only go one way.......down the line. I support United and everytime I watch him beat a defender I actually hate it. How thick can you be, he's going to run to the byline and cross!

He breaks inside quite a bit. All his goals are scored that way. And his crosses have quality. There are a few in the league who can't even do that reliably: Walcott, et al.

The real test is how he matches with his forwards ... and he does quite well with Utd's front line ... we'll see how he does with RVP, soon.

he tends to break inside off the ball though and receive it when he's already in position. My problem with him is when he is entering the final third. He is far too successful for a player so limited, I just don't understand it. In the last champions league final we were in v Barcelona, they latched onto this and I've never been more angry at a player during a game of football

Good enough ... but Nani's wastefulness and lack of defense means that Valencia is the best United have, we might agree ...

We'll see if he can reproduce his form this year.

Oh, I'm not for a minute saying that Nani should be played instead of him. He has had his chance to find consistency which he looked to have done for a phaze a couple of years ago, but i think we should sell him when the first 12m+ bid comes in at this stage.

I concur. If Fergie offered to swap Valencia for a Lennon or a Walcott, you can bet your ass UTD would be a Spanish city short of a player.

Well, it's subjective of course. I think on his day he can a game on his own, like he did at start of last season or was it 10/11 when Rooney was injured. Most other days hes anonymous. But I personally think Scholes is the best, but he doesn't play every game so it's a hard one to call. Maybe more games go by and Kagawa will be considered the best.

Wildcard played. Hopefully the transfers will keep coming thick and fast overt he break so I can make some money before settling on my final team two weeks from now.

I can't decide who I'm more glad to see the back of, Bale or N'Zogbia.

Long term and has the best value I assume?
I am leaning towards him too, just not really sure what I have missed out on Ridgewell love.
        Am I wrong?

I think defenses thrive on strong offenses - as well as the odd Tiote up front shielding them.

But I haven't done any fixture analysis of the two, if that's what you mean. Just a 'player v. player' answer.

I've mulled over what makes the best defences for a long time and for me it comes back to first principles - the best ones concede the smallest number of dangerous shots. Call it penalty box shots if you like. There's different ways to skin this cat (like that Eric, like that?) but two common ones are very high possession facilitated by a high defensive line (Barca is the archetype) and insane blocking facilitated by a deep defensive line (Sunderland).

Koscielny (£5.4m). He's back in the Arsenal squad for Liverpool game, scores goals (usually headers), and will replace Mertesacker.

Saylor is the best on that list but for your team I would say Cuellar.
Reason being is that you already have Ivan, Hangeland and Rangel who will be on the field most weeks (especially with their fixtures).

So I would go cheap and get Cuellar.

There could be value to be had in Swansea's defence since Naylor is out for the season. Disgusting injury, I couldnt watch the replay.

I presume it's Davies that will come in? £4m is a steal.

rafael - huth @gw 9 - fabio/Nelsen @ GW6 - I would say rafael as cheaper than De Gea and can then downgrade de Gea
