[sbu_large_image] The Stock Check

City suffer more anxiety attacks but, again, overcome QPR to earn the three points with some familiar names again amongst the returns. Here’s the stock check from the day’s final encounter…

On the Up

Carlos Tevez
The overwhelming captaincy favourite this weekend, he didn’t let us down. Tevez played a part in all his side’s three goals – providing assists for the first two before grabbing the third, he currently sits on 24 FPL points pre-bonus, with the maximum looking likely. Those who opted for the Van Persie option will now have a uncomfortable 90 minutes ahead of them.

Yaya Toure
Once again, the Ivorian delivered for his Fantasy owners. Toure’s opener against QPR means he has produced attacking returns in all three of City’s games so far; cheaper than the likes of Samir Nasri and David Silva across the Fantasy games, he is proving to be the main contender from Mancini’s midfield and can expect plenty of suitors over the international break.

Edin Dzeko
The Bosnian striker has his doubters but, once again, he cropped up with a vital goal. While Tevez is overwhelming the strongest attacking option in the City lineup, Dzeko now appears to be in the box seat for starts alongside him; particularly now that Mario Balotelli is facing a month out due to an eye operation.

Going Down

The City Defence
Three games, no clean sheets. It’s a bit of a worry for owners of Vincent Kompany and Joe Hart – both are priced highly across the Fantasy games due to their near guaranteed selection but with City continuing to leak goals at the back, the pair could well be shed from squads as we reassess our line-ups. Rotation is a constant worry – just ask Gael Clichy owners – while Pablo Zabaleta was withdrawn with a “slight” hamstring twinge.

Djibril Cisse
Dropped to the bench to make way for a change in shape, Cisse, along with Adel Taarabt, Junior Hoilett and Bobby Zamora, looks far from secure as Hughes shuffles his attacking options match to match.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It could be him or the other guy Davies, no-one I've heard is fully sure. I think Tate is the veteran and Davies might be a youngster but I have no idea. Wouldn't gamble on it until you get more info.

I had to do the Bale->Hazard FT before the price changes as I had exactly the right money.

Probably not going to do another for a hit, but thought I'd ask during the deadzone what my key issues are with my team.

I assume they are mainly defence - eg.Zabaleta, Hangeland

    DDG (Federici)
    Ivanovic Zabaletta Demel Hangeland Clyne
    Hazard Michu YaYa Pienaar Noble
    Tevez RvP Graham

ivanovic could potentially lose his place at anytime with chelsea adding new rb to the squad
same with zabaleta with the inclusion of Maicon. Once Richards is back then RB position is a minefield.

I'd possibly look to downgrade those 2 within the next couple of gameweeks which will give you some spare cash to upgrade your mid-price mids when they go off form.

I wanted to get get Nolan as I thought the Nolan/Carrol combo would do well as in the Newc days. Then I read Nolan would play deeper(in place of Tomkins) so I opted for Jarvis as He looked ok in his first game and I figured his crosses would be put away by Carrol. Jarvis has also been a consistent PL performer with 120pts+ the last 2 or 3 seasons. For far worst sides then Wham.

Actually more pissed of that I had nolan all re season only to sell him prior to week one for Nzogbia. 20pts down the drain.

        😡

Thats what i ment, long term it will be Lloris, but short term he keeps it. It´s his to lose i reckon. And if Lloris would walk right in i reckon he would a) have some more trademark avb locker room drama and b) Break Friedel.

I think he might have been injured ye but he's had sub cameos every game I think so far. He can't get in the team just yet because of the way it's set up. He's a dodgy punt but if he plays he would be a good one with their fixtures. Morrison is obviously the safer option if you're going WBA midfield. Brunt's assist today came from a corner so he's on them if he plays.

Admittedly there is some confirmation bias at play here but here’s why I think this is the best time to WC:

    1. Take advantage of price-rises early. The value of your team is the most underrated factor in this game and often makes all the difference in the second half of the season.

    2. More active players at the beginning of the season = more WCs/Transfers = more prices rises than during later international breaks.

    3. Stake ownership of the big players before their prices becomes untenable - e.g. RVP could be 13.5 by GW4, Hazard 10.2 etc... While these players may not continue to be the form players, it’s better to have them and be able to transfer them out rather than trying to get them in later at +0.3.

    4. It allows you to own, high-potential, form players that may be out of the price range of your competitors, the providing effective differentials and potentially forcing them into weakening their teams just to match you.

    5. It allows you to get rid of non-starters and avoid any injuries that occur during the int’l break.

Obviously there are advantages to keeping it as well but, in my opinion, no other point in the season gives you the same long-term advantage that WCing now does.

Hope these words don’t come back to haunt me...

I played mine early last season and it worked out well. The only reason I am holding out now is because I can field a decent starting 11 and I have no major injuries. I will use it in a double GW around March/April. We all remember last year's GW 36 POINTS-FEST

Yeah that GW was a killer (though I still managed to score 100+ points - through sheer fortune in the end!)

I may regret not having my WC for such an occasion but I actually think it's possibly more risky keeping it and essentially betting it on one big GW. For every DGW goal bonanza there's a DGW let-down.

Bookamarked!! I'm new(ish) to this game! First FPL season...
      1) My team value is 101.4 now! If i wildcard now, will it become 100.0 again??
      2) I've players like Tevez and Michu whose prices have increased drastically, do i need to pick them again and concede their price hikes if i WC??
      Thanks! 🙂

No- price rises of the players you keep in your team are retained but don't sell and rebuy them

You will get 0.1 return for every 0.2 a players price has risen that you sell. You will also get the current resale value for any players that have dropped in price.

Your value won't go back to 100 but, when you sell a player, you only get half of what the price they've accrued since they rose. e.g. if Tevez started at 9 and rose to 9.8, if you sold him you'd be left with 9.4 to spend. However, if you wanted to buy Tevez back, you'd have to buy him at the new price (9.8)

The big mistake to avoid here therefore is selling your players that will already have risen a lot in price. Better off keeping them and focusing on the other movers (e.g. RVP, Hazard etc...) - that's IF you decide to WC 🙂

        Hope that helps!

          Surely does! Thanks DL!
No way out fa both Michu and Tevez in tat case...
One more thing, if this isn't the week, which is the best time to WC?? and what has been the trend in the past??

Generally int'l breaks are a good time (I think there's another in GW7) - Alternatively some like to keep it for double game weeks (so they can stock-up on players that will play twice in one week). You get another WC in January so probably best to do use it early-ish or late-ish in the season rather than around then.

      Good points Dufflinks.

Now or gw7 is prob the best time to plan an early WC, for the reasons you stated. But of course, other very valid strategies can be used.

While prices seem more volatile now, transffer thresholds will drop through the season, prices will always change.

Personally, I prefer to plan it as otherwise it just upsets my flow.

Note: early WC's HAVE to be about long term advantage. Later ones rely on heavy short surges.

      1) I hardly think value is underrated. If anything I'd say its overrated as people on here are always concerned about loosing 0.1 even if its the start of the week.

      2) Agree but it also means that more people have the same template team which if anything is a weakness if you are looking to jump up the rankings.

      3) Fair point but I would argue that people should prioritise getting in the 'must haves' with the FT and would even be worth getting in for a hit if necessary.

      4) This point is related to point 3. Prioritise getting in 'must have players' with FT's or a hit.

      5) This is really your best point. However if you were lucky enough to have a decent team from GW1 then this shouldn't be an issue.

+1. I also think so many WC teams have been severely weakened by trying to fit in RVP. I think 13.0 was too expensive, let alone any future rise.

The flip side of that though as Dufflinks rightfully pointed out is that his price could rise beyond the reaches of those that said he was too expensive at 13m. This could make him a massive differential if he does well.

I bought him in for a hit without the need for a WC. Many others may be able to do the same.
