The Gunners show their spirit to come from behind and claim the points at Upton Park, as Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott arrive and Santi Cazorla confirms his class…

On the Up

Olivier Giroud
A first Premier League goal, was capped by the assist for Theo Walcott’s winner. The Frenchman has pedigree in his native country but has yet to convince on these shores. He’ll surely take great confidence from this evening’s performance, however, and Giroud could yet present another enticing option up front.

Santi Cazorla
We kept faith with Cazorla in the Watchlist rankings, settling him in third above his in-form team-mate Gervinho: tonight’s performance demonstrated just why. The Spaniard was, once again, superb and this time delivered on his hugely impressive numbers with a fabulous strike to seal the Arsenal victory.

Theo Walcott
A peripheral figure so far in Arsenal’s season, Walcott’s goal and his assist for Cazola’s effort was a reminder of his potential. Contract negotiations are still ongoing – if Walcott can finally settle, he could yet play a role in our Fantasy seasons. Right now, he’s an option that increases the likelihood of rotation in Wenger’s lineup.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Arsene Wenger brought Per Mertesacker back into his back four, dropping Laurent Koscielny to the bench – a decision likely to have been governed by the threat of Andy Carroll. The Gunners backline have now conceded in the last four and, more significantly, with Bacary Sagna and Wojciech Szczesney set for returns after the international break, there is a great deal of uncertainty in terms of personnel. Thomas Vermaelen appears to be the only assured starter, at least until we know more on Kieran Gibbs’ knock that saw him replaced just before the hour-mark tonight.

Gervinho
Giroud’s returns and Walcott’s showing from the bench signals trouble for owners of the Ivorian. Already he was pushed out wide on the right from the off in this evening’s game, only to be replaced by Walcott after 60 minutes after an ineffectual showing. Gervinho’s starting role is now immediately under increased threat, both as a central attacker and on the flank.

Ricardo Vaz Te
The Hammers striker had been enjoying a buoyant start to the season but this looks to have been derailed this evening by a suspected dislocation of the shoulder. Guy Demel also sustained a knock and his prognosis is likely to be a greater concern for Fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Would you WC this team?

    Foster Federici
    Baines Cole Demel Clyne Tierney
    Bale Michu Ramirez Maloney Britton
    RVP Tevez Torres

Bad fixtures: Torres, Cole, Michu (after next week)
Lost place in team: Federici, Tierney
    Possible injury: Demel
Then Tevez is a rotation worry I guess

Wasn't planning on it and I have two FT...but still debating...
    Hmm any thoughts guys?

No, your defence is fine. You should consider making 3 transfers for -4 and that should be enough to sort out your team. I would even suggest that Tevez and Torres are worth keeping. You need to get rid of Britton and a defender or two. Perhaps by downgrading Cole (who has bad fixtures) you can invest more in your midfield.

I'm fine with Britton because he plays 90 almost every week and solves my selection headache.

What I've been thinking is this...

        This week: Cole to Hughes
Next week: Michu + Torres/Tevez to Cazorla + Berba

Yeah that works. Certainly in terms of fixtures. It just means you have to start Maloney every week. I would suggest that he may be better as a rotation option with the likes of Nolan or someone around that price range.

Decent start to my GW (23 pts with Gallas, Barfa, Bale(C), Lambert, Ba + Bonus)

Looking ahead to transfers, have 2FT with 2.5 in the bank.

Problem is I want 3 things this week...
    -Dyer out
    -Santi in
    -Berba in

What is of highest priority? Dyer likely to drop as well

Looking at your team, I'd say Hazard -> Santi is the stand-out trade given their corresponding run of fixtures.

Dyer probably needs to go, but that can wait until GW9.

Tevez -> Berbs is tempting, but as a Tevez owner I think he's worth keeping, especially given MCY's short term fixtures.

-Give Dyer another week, nice fixture
-Hazard to Cazorla looks like it could be a good shout...Chelsea fixtures really stiffen up
-Ahh I like your strike force...depends on how much playtime you think Tevez will continue to get. He may be out fairly soon for me. Trying to squeeze Berbatov in as well

    a) Guthrie -> Sterling (is Sterling fairly secure in the starting 11?)

    b) Save the transfer with a view to Michu & Suarez -> something like Santi & Berbs/Lambert in GW9.

Hmmm, you have to decide what is more important...

Losing 0.1 on Guthrie (and any further rises for Sterling), but having Cazorla for a very favourable home game to QPR...

          OR

Having the ideal 5th mid, who will always be there or thereabouts with 3-5pts if you need it...

    RVP, Ba, Fletcher

    GW8: Hazard -> Cazorla
    GW9: RVP -> Aguero
    Rangel -> Wilson
    Michu -> Silva/Mata/Barfa
    -8pts

What do people think of the above transfers?
I know it sounds ridiculous to be plotting an 8 point this early but these transfers are at the perfect time:

Keep RVP for STO an transfer out for che

Already considering how to use my two frees for GW9 (on the assumption I actually do save it this week)

Rangel & Michu are probably the favourites to leave... I'm pretty sure Sagna will be Rangel's replacement, but I'm not sure who exactly to replace Michu with... as much as I want to get rid of him, it's actually very hard to, objectively, see another player in his price range as better value...

The obvious options is Walters, but I'm reluctant to do that (only because of last years decline still fresh in the memory)...

I already have Pienaar and Lambert, so won't consider Fellaini or Ramirez...

Maybe Morrison or Taarabt... maybe MacAnuff, but he seems a little lightweight for me...

    Any suggestions...

I do like Simpson at 4.8, but I think I might instead go for Wilson if I consider that combo, only because 3 Newcastle doesn't seem right...

I think Morrison is the way to go for that price range although he doesn't have great fixtures.

Yeah for me you should either keep Michu or figure out a way to upgrade him to a big hitter. I have tons of money in the bank to sell Demel for Sagna and Michu for Silva if I choose to do a similar thing as you.

I plan to bring in Nelsen for Gunter in GW10, but if I brought that move ahead and replaced Rangel for him, I'd have 9.0m (actually 8.9m once Nelsen rises)..

So if Mata didn't rise any further I could afford him, unlikely though...

And I will probably only want Mata or Silva in that range...

I believe that was because he was being caught out too many times and at the begging of the season mancini was trying 3 at the back which was ridiculous.

Now hes playing with 4 defenders, im gambling that Kolorov becomes a regular. Could pay off, could not.

I think Santi does better without Gervinho on the field as well, when he went off Santi really ran the show and got further forward.

Same. He's a lock to play 90 mins every week also, whereas Silva has competition from the likes of Nasri, Sinclair etc. I'd like him this week, but I'd need to take a hit to get him so probably not worth it. Whatcha reckon?

I was talking about Arsenals defensive form. Its been a while since they got a clean sheet. In particular I'm a bit miffed that Jenkinson is still going up in price even though he hasn't been getting points not to mention Sagna's imminent return.

    corz malony bale fellan nolan
    aguero berb rvp

lovin aguero's performance today but i cant help but feel silva is much more of a beter option. also the afroed fellen is definatly not going to beat the penut. so i was thinking doing fellen+agero > jelly+silva for a hit probably at the end of the int break, wot ya rec?

Gerv, Fellaini, Silva, Davies to name a few. Although I think Silva will come good would rather have Haz/Caz/Bale over him atm. Too much rotation with city and anyone can get on the scoresheet.

Silva was intentional. Gervinho was definitely a risk too far. Didn't realise Fellaini played so deep, but don't know how that was short term. Davies was not really a punt, just a 4.0 defender that might get games for a while.

Pienaar defo better long term option than Fellaini, Mirrlas return has shifted fellaini alot deeper, he is practiaclly useless now...... except from set pieces. But they will always be marking him closely.

There will still be times where he is played up front. They will use him as a bully boy on weaker defences. Where he plays will be purely tactical depending on the opposition.

Half of those moves are not even long-term moves...
Fellaini won't be deep every game, Gibson is back soon.
Ba is on fire and has great fixtures yet you just ditched him for 4 point hit.
Guthrie > Frei for 4 points are you serious? It makes no sense.
Kolarov is second choice, he has done these sort of things before and been dropped it will happen again..
Sorry but no matter what way you look at it you've blown it. lol.

          Dont try and justify a 16 point hit that was;
          Fellaini > Pienaar
          Ba > Berbatov
And getting in a Reading keeper, Kolarov and Frei who doesnt even play!!

Kolorov will play now that mancini has shifted to 4 defenders, obviously entrusting Kolorov in a 3 man defence at the begging of the season was not ideal for city hence the goals conceded. Pienaar is a much better long term option now that Mirralas is playing at the front, fellaini lost his role at the front and plays much deeper. Kolorov is a bit of differential for me, could work, could not. Can easily get him out for some1 else.

Frei will play and is an excellent talent, guthrie was balls anyhow and was about to lose 0.1 in value. Which i have already lost on him.

Fellaini has played 45 minutes in a "deeper role" for god sake.

Frei hasn't played a minute this season, and it's not as if he has ever been a regular starter, he won't walk straight back into a front 4 that has Berbatov, Petric, Rodallega, Kacaniklic Ruiz and Richardson.

Frei will shyte over richardson once he comes back into the fray. He wasnt getting much of a look in due to dembele, but now thats changed.

Guthrie was aobut to fall and i had to do the transfer then. It would of been a 12 point hit if stupid Fltecher rose after stopping on 98% but thats life.

Dempsey and Dembele both leaving will give frei a chance of playing. Dembele was supplying forward directly sometimes, richardson sucks and i have no doubt frei can overshadow him, but hell be on my bench most of the time.

Doesnt change the fact that guthrie aint going to play either and hell be filling the same role.

Exactly, which is why it was ridiculous to take a 4 point hit for the transfer.
I still don't see how Dembele has anything to do with it, and it's not only Richardson he is competing with..it's 4 of Rodallega, Ruiz, Richardson, Petric, Duff, Berbatov, Kacaniklic and Frei.
Seeing as Ruiz, Duff and Berbatov are nailedon when fit there is 5 people vying for one spot.

thats due to Jela and Mirrallas playing up front and i dont see that changing.

How is that utter shyte? mancini was playing 3 defenders with Kolorov. at the start of the season. Obviously not the wisest choice. Like i said its a gamble could work, could not, worse comes to worse i get 0.1 profit and transfer him out.

Agree, but wont be making changes for a while now, barring injuries of course. 2 weeks ago i had to rely only on baines for defending points, now i have 3 defenders who can score good points and are in good teams.

I sacrificed a 1/3rd of a a GW over two weeks for short term loss, long term gain.

Cazorla looks like as close to a 'must have' as you can get for next week (and onwards). Norwich have been shipping loads of goals.

Michu is the only one I could drop to get him in. Worth getting him out right before his great fixture (Wigan home)?

Essentially I'm asking, who do you think will score next week: Michu or Cazorla?

This long international break is going to be such a nightmare if you're not on your WC. I've no idea what to do...make changes now or wait until the end of the break to do so. I'd like to catch a few risers with my 2FT but that's 2 weeks of time they could get injured. Add to this I have the irritating combo of Demel and Gibbs to worry about...not to mention if RVP doesn't score...an absolute shocker of a GW coming up...sometimes this game is too much stress!

I thought about WCing for the simple reason to increase team value, but with most of my players already risen in value, it's impossible to justify doing that, when I know I'll want them back anyway...

So I will only lose that value when I buy them back...

Not for me... you too should wait... at least keep one for any unforeseen eventualities...

I know what you mean. I used my WC on the last break. I've had some luck this time round though after a couple of poor GWs. I stocked up on Chelsea this week and all my other front players that have played already have either scored or assisted. Hopefully I can just relax for a couple of weeks now.

Newcastle can win...I just need that one RVP goal...it can be an 89th consolation...I just need his foot to hit the ball into the net...JUST ONE TIME

    Nolan/Morrison/Walters/Peanut

Peanut is the obvious choice but I really need a differential player and mid priced mids have always done well in the past. Walters obviously has the fixtures but Morrison is in great form and despite Nolan's poor finishing tonight he's still a potent goal scorer.

He's a good pick. I wish I'd gone for him the last 3 games...he really came good...I was afraid of the City fixture though and the fact that I'd be tempted to sell him at a time like this...where other things will be more pressing. Quality player though...

Thinking of hanging on to Pienaar and letting Fellaini go...not that doubling up was ever a good idea...but originally I was thinking Pienaar to go...but he's been so consistent and reliable. Plus he's cheaper...

Good idea to let Fellaini go. Spread the coverage.

A lot of people here are bring Silva in. I have exactly 9.6 and a midfield slot but I am not tempted by him yet.
    Enlighten me anyone? 🙂

He's a good way into the city attack...the forwards are rotated so much. I love him as a player and would love him on my team but there are things that would make me wary...the price tag for one...and the frustration it might lead to...He's a class player but you'd need him to be ultra consistent to justify the price tag and the lack of major goalscoring explosiveness...he really is mainly an assists man.

Exactly what I am worrying for. His points so far is not going to justify his hefty price tag. I am more tempted by Mata and Yaya Toure to be honest but just hope that I don't miss out the gold.

If RVP fails I may set up a counselling service for those affected...therapy will be essential! 😀

        I need:

a hat trick from Captain Bale
        Suarez brace
        RVP brace
        Ba brace
        2 assists from Barfa
        clean sheet from Clyne

        Then I won't need therapy. 🙂
