Controversy is typically saved for the final fixtures of a major tournament’s qualifying rounds, but as England’s exploits in both Serbia and Poland have left an indignant taste for many, the return of the Premier League cannot come soon enough. It’s been a fortnight of frustration but can we now find an edge to help us pick our punts in Paddy Power’s special markets? Read on to find out in this week’s Fantasy Flutter…

Liverpool may well be enjoying the spotlight either side of the pond with their light-hearted documentary donning network prime-time, but the grim reality show – featuring six points in seven games – shows a club more likely to get canned than win a BAFTA. Rarely out of the news, Luis Suarez has to grab the goals for Brendan Rodgers’ outfit if they are to emerge from the doldrums; the Uruguayan has at least been in decent form of late, netting once over the international break in addition to racking up five so far domestically. Paddy have Suarez at 2/1 to find the net and for Liverpool to hold out for a clean-sheet against Reading. That might not seem much of a steal but with the Merseysiders’ last two home defeats coming from Man United and Arsenal, there might well be a bit of value to it. We’ll take £5 at the 2’s and pen this in as our banker.

Dimitar Berbatov hasn’t featured on the international scene for a couple of years, giving him a chance to rest up over these fortnight breaks and ready himself for domestic duty. He might still be a bit leggy from his thigh injury when Fulham take on Villa at Craven Cottage on Saturday, but with a pair of goals and an assist in two and a half games so far this term, he’s already made an impact at the Cottage. Paddy are pricing Berbatov up at 5/1 for a goal and a Fulham cleanie at home to Villa and that looks well worth £2 of our money.

West Ham have made a very decent impression on the top flight after gaining a leg-up from the Championship. Sitting in eighth place and with 11 points on the board, their start has been encouraging, and with Andy Carroll barging his way back to fitness, we’re expecting more goals from Big Sam’s lineup. Kevin Nolan’s experience has helped guide them through some tough early fixtures, and he’ll be in and about the box to poach another as Southampton make the trip up to East London. Paddy are offering 6/1 on a Nolan goal and a clean-sheet for West Ham, reflecting both the Hammers’ recent successes and Southampton’s failings. Even though it’s a fair return, we’re only gonna take a quid on this one.

Our last £2 is tentatively riding on a tempting treble which backs a Berbatov goal, a Santi Cazorla assist at Carrow Road and a Man United clean sheet against visiting Stoke. This is a very decent 16/1 treble, featuring form and statistical favour; we’ve struggled getting these ones over the line in recent weeks, so the time is right for us to pick one up.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

    - Last time, the popular decision here was to (C) Hazard over Bale. I did Bale and that flopped.
-This time, its Cazorla (C) vs RvP and I'm confused now.

Prod me in the right direction please lads. Too tired to think. Spent 5 hours in the Operating Theatre today ðŸ™

but you do have a point, with Braga coming up on tuesday he could quite possibly only play 60 min form the start or 30min at the end with Hernandez playing instead, who knows how Fergie will opt to go. I just keep thinking back to Wigan gw4 and his epic 1 point haul...arrrgh so torn. Will just captain Jelly instead

I'm not quite convinced here either. Stoke have been very very resilient against the top sides. Just that captaining a striker feels a little more secure.

Norwich defence is an embarassment. Cazorla'll unlock them and rip them to shreds, just dont want him to be providing the second last pass.

HBA is one of the key performers so far with Newcastle, local Derby tomorrow. Think Southampton with struggle against west Ham, and with that Lambert will struggle. Just a gut feeling

hmmm interesting. yeah ik its a local derby. just afraid it'll be a lowscoring one (maybe 1-0 or even 0-0) considering the two teams and not a high scoring one.... lambert is the main main for southampton though. could see it going either way in all honestly... *sigh*

doesn't lambert have pens but hba doesn't? hmmm

            thanks for the advice!

TW, Ba and HBA share penalties after Cisse miss. Check who refereeing matches, could be chance of penalty. A plus for Lambert is Demel is to be out, so west ham won't have usual back 4, so gives a chance there. Always hard to judge a fixture directly after an international break.

    re-post; input appreciated...

play Schwarzer (Aston Villa, home) or Jaaskelainen (Southampton, home)?

and, which one of the following eight would you bench?
Hazard, Ben Arfa, Nolan, Pienaar, Michu
    Lambert, Suarez, Tevez

    Whom to bench?

    Sterling/Nolan/Cazorla/Bale/Mata

    Aguero/Jelavic/Berb

I was actually considering benching Aguero because of lack of game time this week. I shouldnt do it right?

Id say verthongen more likely tostart in the long term... Rafa should have another 2x GWs of o competition for RB slot though before rotation blues kick i. With smalling & jones returning in near future

Vert is certainly more fixture proof... Doing a great job now at LB.

If AVB wants to bring Benny back when fit, I think Vert is first choice CB ( probably alongside Kaboul)

Anyone else sitting back & watching Berba today before jumping into a transfer? I'm a little wary of him being just back from injury... If he scores doule figures id be tempted to do fletch>berbs tonight though to beat inevitable price rises

I wouldn't spend that transfer right now. I'm thinking Fletcher well grab one in the derby. Who knows if Berba will play 90 for sure.

Doosra is a fine chap, who plays with guts and a lot of differentials to the rest.

      He has his own mind.

            Tricky with hba.

Personally I wouldn't drop any of that mf plus you got Ba.

Only option would be to play him instead of Lambert, but I think I would leae your team as it is. Good luck. 🙂

        Foster
        Baines, Demel, Muthersucker
        Cazorla, Michu, bale, Nolan,
        RVP (c), Ba, Tevez
