Controversy is typically saved for the final fixtures of a major tournament’s qualifying rounds, but as England’s exploits in both Serbia and Poland have left an indignant taste for many, the return of the Premier League cannot come soon enough. It’s been a fortnight of frustration but can we now find an edge to help us pick our punts in Paddy Power’s special markets? Read on to find out in this week’s Fantasy Flutter…

Liverpool may well be enjoying the spotlight either side of the pond with their light-hearted documentary donning network prime-time, but the grim reality show – featuring six points in seven games – shows a club more likely to get canned than win a BAFTA. Rarely out of the news, Luis Suarez has to grab the goals for Brendan Rodgers’ outfit if they are to emerge from the doldrums; the Uruguayan has at least been in decent form of late, netting once over the international break in addition to racking up five so far domestically. Paddy have Suarez at 2/1 to find the net and for Liverpool to hold out for a clean-sheet against Reading. That might not seem much of a steal but with the Merseysiders’ last two home defeats coming from Man United and Arsenal, there might well be a bit of value to it. We’ll take £5 at the 2’s and pen this in as our banker.

Dimitar Berbatov hasn’t featured on the international scene for a couple of years, giving him a chance to rest up over these fortnight breaks and ready himself for domestic duty. He might still be a bit leggy from his thigh injury when Fulham take on Villa at Craven Cottage on Saturday, but with a pair of goals and an assist in two and a half games so far this term, he’s already made an impact at the Cottage. Paddy are pricing Berbatov up at 5/1 for a goal and a Fulham cleanie at home to Villa and that looks well worth £2 of our money.

West Ham have made a very decent impression on the top flight after gaining a leg-up from the Championship. Sitting in eighth place and with 11 points on the board, their start has been encouraging, and with Andy Carroll barging his way back to fitness, we’re expecting more goals from Big Sam’s lineup. Kevin Nolan’s experience has helped guide them through some tough early fixtures, and he’ll be in and about the box to poach another as Southampton make the trip up to East London. Paddy are offering 6/1 on a Nolan goal and a clean-sheet for West Ham, reflecting both the Hammers’ recent successes and Southampton’s failings. Even though it’s a fair return, we’re only gonna take a quid on this one.

Our last £2 is tentatively riding on a tempting treble which backs a Berbatov goal, a Santi Cazorla assist at Carrow Road and a Man United clean sheet against visiting Stoke. This is a very decent 16/1 treble, featuring form and statistical favour; we’ve struggled getting these ones over the line in recent weeks, so the time is right for us to pick one up.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Gone for double Stoke longterm, hope it pays off. Have 0.5 in bank to do something with Nolan in two weeks plus funds from Suarez transfer next week to be included. What do you think?

                  Begovic - McCarthy

                  Baines - Rafael - Wilson - McCartney - Fonte

                  Bale - Pienaar - Cazorla - Nolan - Sterling

                  RVP - Suarez - Berbatov

    In before the masses:

    Foster

    Demel Baines McCartney

    Cazorla Bale Michu Pienaar Sterling

    RVP (c) Tevez

    Subs: Graham (trololol), Zabaleta, Cuellar,

    For 8 points could do:

Graham -> Berba (Graham looks like he could get dropped for Moore)

Zabaleta -> Wilson (Zab may be rested for Richards) Can't bring Berba in without doing this transfer.

My head says stick, but my heart says goodbye Graham :/

          Here is their teaser,
QUESTION: Spurs host Chelsea in today's early kick-off. Who was the last player to score a #BPL hat-trick in this fixture?

I'M thinking Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink but that is a wild guess

Ok I've taken the advice of people and gone for RVP over Aguero for now and it probably is the right choice.

    Begovic Foster
    Baines Rafael Hughes Nelsen Santon
    Bale Cazorla Nolan Sterling Barfa
    Rvp Jelavic Berbatov

Problem is I'm 1.7 short of being able to have this team, any suggestions who to downgrade? Was thinking maybe Bale âž¡ Lennon

    Morning!

Pressed the W/c button in a drunken stupor last night - need to catch up in some of my leagues :9

    Team:

    Jaask (Begovic)

    Baines, Rafael, Hangelaand (Fonte, Wilson)
Cazorla, Michu, Pienaar, Sterling (+9.2 mid)
    Aguero, Berbatov, Suarez (c)

Should I go with Mata as a 9.2 mid?

    Also..

    what's better...

    a) Rafael, Mata, Suarez
    b) Vermaelen, Mata, Ba
    c) Verm, Ba, other 9.2 mid?

    Cheers lads

    RMT, for next 10 gws...

    Begovic/Jussi
    Baines Gibbs Staylor/Cuellar (Demel)
    Santi Bale Fellaini Barfa
    RVP Berb Lambert/Sterling

    / indicates perfect home rotation.

thinking about next weeks transfers and got a strategy call to make.
i have 2.6, i can either do Fellaini --> Silva (when fit) to have a sick midfield
or Lambert --> Giroud to have a great front 3. bit of arsenal overkill though

Sooo, after a two week wait, Routledge hits his double price rise, earning me 0.1, but then nobody rises.

So much for using the international break to make some money. Oh well, at least Giroud (c) may still work.

My team for the week then
    Foster
    Ivanovic - Kompany - Baines
    Mata - Pienaar - Michu(vc) - Cazorla
    Berbatov(c) - Tevez - Lambert

Subs - Federici - Ben Arfa - Demel Fonte

One of these weeks I will have a sub to burn and will dump Federici.

What do you think about subs etc, I am still quite tempted to put HBA in the starting XI

Not sure that 0.1 is coming.

If worried, switch one of the two, allowing you to get in Sagna etc easily when time comes. Evans nailed on until Vidic back, Mert for time being as well, but I'm sticking with Rafeal and hoping so does sir Alex.
