Fantasy Football Scout are pleased to announce the seventh instalment of the open-to-all, free-to-enter Paddy Power Cup competition.

Organised and run by contributors “Akers” and “Superior Being”, this is your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleepingmaster and reigning champion Mch – in our hall of fame. For full details on how to enter, when it starts and the prizes on offer, read on…

We’re changing the format of our cup tournaments this season – instead of three cup competitions that overlap, we’ll be running this first Paddy Power Cup, the Members Cup and then a first Fantasy Football Scout Shield. This final tournament will take place over the final four Gameweeks of the season and includes just 16 teams – the Quarter-Finalists from both the Paddy Power and the Members Cup. There’s therefore extra incentive to enter and do well in our first two tournaments.

Read on for details on the Paddy Power cup but, if you’re a veteran, you can go straight here to make your entry.

What is the Paddy Power Cup?

The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager highest in the overall standing will progress.

When does it start?

The qualifying round takes place in Gameweek 10 but you can enter after the Gameweek is played out. All entries received before Monday November 5 will be entered into the qualifying round. In this first cup competition we will have 1024 qualifiers for the first round – those 1018 (plus 6 previous winners who earn a bye) with the top scores in Gameweek 10 will progress to the first round proper to be played in Gameweek 11. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions.

How do I enter?

Simply fill out the entry form here. You will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry. You can also check that you are entered via this list.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published on Tuesday November 6

What is the Gameweek Schedule

Each round of the Paddy Power Cup will be played out over the following schedule:

  • Qualifying – Gameweek 10
  • Round 1 – 1024 teams – Gameweek 11
  • Round 2 – 512 teams – Gameweek 12
  • Round 3 – 256 teams – Gameweek 13
  • Gameweek 14 – Break
  • Round 4 – 128 teams – Gameweek 15
  • Round 5 – 64 teams – Gameweek 16
  • Round 6 – 32 teams – Gameweek 17
  • Round 7 – 16 teams – Gameweek 18
  • Gameweek 19 – Break
  • Quarter-Finals – 8 teams – Gameweek 20
  • Gameweek 21 – Break
  • Semi-Finals – 4 teams – Gameweek 22
  • The Final – 2 teams – Gameweek 23

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each Gameweek deadline.

Are there prizes?

Sponsors Paddy Power are supplying the competition with some great prizes and we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down as follows:

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher
Runner-up – £50 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

In addition, the Quarter-Finalists from this tournament will gain entry to the Fantasy Football Scout Shield where they will play the eight Quarter-Finalists from this season’s Members Cup. Should any team qualify for the Shield from both Cup tournaments, then the highest scoring losing team from the last sixteen of either cup will gain entry to complete the FFS Shield entries.

Cup Entrants will need a Paddy Power account and be aged 18 or over to be eligible for some of the above prizes. Prizes are also subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. You can, of course, enter without being over 18 and without a Paddy Power account but will not be eligible for the free bet prizes.

If you’ve yet to register a Paddy Power account, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    My Team is

    Jussi
    A.cole, Baines ,McAuley
    Hazard,Michu,Pienaar Routledge,
    “Ba”,RVP, Suarez

    McCarthy -,Sterling ,Fonte,Demel

    1.8 in bank

just did Torres to Ba (like a Donkey that I am , did not see the news)
should I go Routledge —->Fellaini for a 4pt hit to help set up my mids?

    or

A.cole -->McCarteny (would play Fonte this week)

    Routledge —-> Mata/Bale
(8pt hit) but my mids would be set

    Morning

    Toughts & plans for Guthrie?
Keeping, benching and using money somewhere else or should I just get rid and upgrade for someone like Sterling?

I'm tempted to get Sterling, but he now quite expencive for a benchplayer. I can't see myself to drop any of Michu, Bale, Mata, Pienaar, Rvp, Tevez or Berba for him.
Altough Michus suspension is just a matter of time, I might be it to happen for southampton game.

    Thanks

If you have the cash and no other pressing transfers then Guthrie has to go imo. Someone like Sterling will set you up for your 5th mid for the rest of the season so it'll be worth the FT.

yeah well I think there's always something to do or plan and in a way that's not a free transfer if I don't plan to play him any time soon.
You are right about that 5th mid and that's why I'm tempted - if I don't take him now, I prob won't whole season so can't get his price go any higher.
Should have done it when he was 4.8 already tbh....thanks for you input man!

              Acqua

ok RVP diff with Ba is 5 Mill less the 1.2 mill so you need to find 3.8 correct?

Foster to Tremmel gives you 1.2
Pienaar to Britton / Robson Kanu gives you 2.6
              swap Ba to RVP
              Does that work...?

Doesn't work.. Ba to RVP leaves me -4.2.

                Foster to Tremmel saves 1.1

    a) GW10: Berba -> Crouch, GW11: Jaask -> Begovic
    b) GW10: Berba -> Lambert, GW11: Clyne -> Simpson

He never really appealed to me either, but looking at his performances in the 'easier' (blue shaded) fixtures this season (of which he now has 7 in a row) you get:

        4, 12, 13, 1 (and he also got 9 against MCY!)

If Berba is ruled out I may well get him for the first time ever in FPL!

Yeah that's another option. Thing is, Zamora faces competition from Cisse with the formation Hughes is playing, whereas I think Crouch is pretty much as nailed on as you can be. Stoke's fixtures and team quality also a bit better imo.

Generally do people on here mind losing value on players that will be on your bench.. Vorm / Guthrie as examples or would you take hits to take them out assuming you can field an eleven of course.

    So

    A) lose value or
    B) take a hit

It's a tough one to answer...losing value can be frustrating...if you make the right transfer for a hit it could be worth it...even if it doesn't necessarily make sense at the time. I realise the importance of maintaining value much more than I used to.

There's a fair amount of useable cash sunk into Vorm considering the availability of several better, cheaper options so under certain circumstances it might be worth taking a hit to do an upgrade on another player

Reply to MataUnreal's post from a couple of pages ago regarding Tevez's supposed creative responsibility...

I'm not sure he's been the only one who's had to create the chances, I think the responsibility has been shared out. Milner, Nasri and Aguero have all created chances more often than Tevez. He's only got 3 assists in the league and that's from 14 chances created - a very good rate of conversion, even for an elite team.

I'd imagine he'll continue to return an assist every 4-5 games.

Well I suppose you are right that his assists are less in real life...as I think he got an assist for just being tackled before a Kolarov free kick...so those things are a bit lucky. I think Nasri has been a bit anonymous this year...don't you think? Apart from the first game...

Aguero's yet to properly get back into the swing of things...although he has done a fair bit in the small amount of minutes he's played.

My issue wasn't whether he would carry on assisting...I believe he will...it's whether he will carry on scoring is my concern. If scoring goals is his main priority then you could say he's been off the boil. But we both know that hasn't really been the case as he's been one of City's best and most consistent performers thus far. I don't think he's being judged purely for his goals...in the way that Dzeko might be if he was to go several games without scoring. I just think it's hard to gauge how many goals Tevez will score this year when you have Aguero/Dzeko/Balo all waiting in the wings and all capable of 15-20 goal seasons (Ok maybe not Balotelli if he aint on form or getting in the team...but you know what I mean)

As I said, I think Tevez owners have been rewarded so far...but I'm really intrigued to see how it all pans out over the next few weeks...especially as I decided to ditch Tevez in my WC and am without any City coverage currently. I'm reluctant to scramble around to try get Tevez back just yet purely because I'm a bit skeptical how essential it is going forward...considering we have yet to see the best of Aguero et al.

      Thanks for the reply!

Go to FPL. Click the information button for Tevez. Check his past few season's returns.

He's definitely capable of big goal returns and although he's not been peppering the opponents goal with shots, he's been getting enough shots on target and in the box to suggest a goal every 2-3 games. He also seems to be a bit of a bonus magnet. I'd imagine he'll continue to score at roughly the same rate as long as a) he stays in the side and b) City maintain or increase their attacking output.

At the moment as a non-owner I wouldn't say he's a must-have but there's no way I'd sell him. I think your comments are heavily influenced as a (perhaps nervous) non-owner.

Well...I do believe I am being objective in discussing this. All I am saying is I am intrigued to see how it pans out over the coming weeks. Of course I am nervous that he might post a mega score...for the same reason I'm nervous Hazard might do the same some weeks...any player with that high an ownership...you have got to be a little concerned.

I wouldn't sell him either...but I made the decision to go RVP and sacrifice owning Tevez anticipating he would fall in price...and to an extent his consistent assists have saved him from much higher sales. In fact if he hadn't delivered this weekend I could have imagined a lot of knee-jerks to get rid of him...as most had captained. Thankfully for them a moment of brilliance from Tevez saved him from that fate.

I'm not unaware of his massive goal tallys in previous seasons...but it was slightly different back then...Tevez was THE main man...now he has other superstars around him....and we saw last year...all the City strikers got their fair share of goals...I just wonder whether Tevez is going to deliver explosive scores often enough for him to be captain material...

If he was to go on another goal drought I can envisage a mass exodus...regardless of him being 'great value'

That's true. Any baron periods or a couple of 30 min or less appearances would result in mass sales from the masses, regardless of his value. I'm not sure I consider him captain material but then I have RVP and two slots for big hitting mids and I'd even be happy captaining Berba or an OOP Michu in a favourable fixture.

Are you happy long-term about benching a £6m+ attacker every week? Maybe consider bringing in some bench fodder - Sterling is perfect for this - and use the cash next week to upgrade Demel (do you really still want double WHU?) or Clyne

    Could bite me, but:
    a) Chelsea are actually above Arsenal now on fixtures.
    b) Mata seems fixture-proof anyway
    c) Santi got nothing in two supposedly simple fixtures.

Tricky one. Ideally you want both, but having looked at your squad I can't see a viable, easy route to that. I guess that's the downside of having a strong bench.

It's a really close call, but being a fixture kinda guy, I'd be tempted with the following:

      GW10: Santi -> Mata
      GW11: Bale -> Santi
      GW12: Save
GW13: Get Bale back by downgrading Aguero

This way you only lose Bale for mcy, ars, and you only lose Santi for mun.

That's not a bad strategy - ta. The question is, though, is Santi worth it? Newcastle coverage might be better for gw11, and Bale is seeming quite fixture-proof.

Yeah, that's the million dollar question. He is promising big returns but has yet to really deliver. I think he will, and he has a great run of fixtures to do so.

Bale is pretty fixture proof (if there is such a thing). But that said, I'd say it's unlikely (not impossible) that he rips it up at City and Arsenal (you should note that I will have him those week though 🙂 ) But then I already have the big trio in midfield.

The obvious choice is wilson to rafael, however thinking of letting go kolarov firts and use the money elsewhere casue my defence looks solid enough:

    Ruddy bego
    Baines cuellar simspon kolarov wilson

    Thx

Ok... so you need 3.2 for Tevez > RVP...

              Hazard > Mata saves 0.8m
              Pienaar > MacAnuff saves 1.6m

Plus the 1.2m in the bank gives you enough to do Tevez > RVP...

Yeh.. dont get too bogged down on RvP... he will score no doubt but his price tag is too much ao that you'll lose out on points from ur other low range players u'll need to bring in...

Right it all depends on who is better to keep Ba or Berbatov. A Santi downgrade might get you there if you get in a cheapie who rotates with Sterling (McAnuff). If you need more cash still look to downgrade one of Gallas, Foster or Saylor. There you go, thats -4pts.

A bit too much in defense to afford RvP with that team, you need more 4.0s if ur gonna have Baines...

      I have a similar mid...with rvp...

      Caz Mata Bale Morrison Sterling
RvP Tevez Crouch and I still have .7 in the bank considering Crouch > Mirallas

Michu is OOP playing as a striker whose goals are worth 5 pts in FPL so I can definitely see the attraction.

Newcastle have a nice run of fixtures but Ba seems to be eating up their points at the moment so I wouldn't diss anyone for making the move you've described. Michu will still be Swansea's main goal threat going on from here.
