Alan Pardew has doubts over Demba Ba’s availability for next Sunday’s trip to Liverpool. Micah Richards looks set to be sidelined for up to eight weeks with a knee injury for City, though Pablo Zabaleta could return for the trip to West Ham. Arsene Wenger has concerns over Gervinho’s ankle problem, Brian McDermott refutes reports of a bust-up with Danny Guthrie, while a quartet of injured West Brom players hit the comeback trail ahead of Southampton’s visit next Monday evening:

Alan Pardew revealed Demba Ba is to undergo a scan on the shin problem that forced the forward off after 71 minutes of Sunday’s 2-1 win over West Brom:

“Demba appears to have a bit of a nerve problem. It is not a major concern and I don’t think it is an ongoing problem, but the major question is whether he can make next week.”

Question marks remain over Ba’s availability for next Sunday’s trip to Liverpool, then – a potentially bitter blow for his 32.2% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners. The 8.4 priced FPL forward has racked up 60 points already, only four less than Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez at the top of the forward rankings, with his opener against the Baggies taking his tally to seven goals and an assist in the opening nine Gameweeks.

Ba has also picked up 14 bonus points in FPL, more than any other player but if he fails to make it, Pardew will be hoping luck continues to favour Papiss Cisse, after the January signing account his account for the season at the weekend in a somewhat fortuitous manner. The Magpies boss also talked up the prospects of Sammy Ameobi, after the latter climbed off the bench to provide the assist for Cisse’s last-gasp winner; with Hatem Ben Arfa providing just one assist in his last six, Pardew clearly needs more creativity right now:

“Sammy looks to provide a little bit of a spark for us. I was searching for some sort of lift for the team and I thought he was very positive for us. We changed the system a couple of times and he tried to create for us.”

Reports indicate Micah Richards is set to be sidelined for six to eight weeks for City after tearing cartilage in his knee during Saturday’s home win over Swansea. The Mail suggests the right-back has already undergone keyhole surgery to alleviate the problem and while the news is perhaps better than initially anticipated, it adds to Roberto Mancini’s defensive woes right now. Mancini was without Maicon and Pablo Zabaleta for the weekend and Richards’ loss further diminishes his options at right-back, though Zabaleta could perhaps be ready to return this weekend at West Ham from a hamstring problem – if he fails to make it, Kolo Toure looks odds-on to step in, should City continue with a back-four at Upton Park.

Elsewhere in the City squad, The Mail go on to say that David Silva has returned to England after a week’s rehabilitation in Spain on his injured hamstring; while the playmaker’s recovery is progressing, he is not expected to be ready in time for the Hammers game, though City have yet to officially confirm this.

Arsene Wenger rolled out an injury update ahead of Arsenal’s Capital One Cup game with Reading this evening. The Gunners boss revealed that Gervinho has an ankle problem but is unsure just how long the Ivorian could be out for – the player had a scan yesterday with Wenger expecting results soon. Wojciech Szczesny is close to a comeback, according to his manager, after returning to training – but he will not features against the Royals, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also out tonight with an ongoing hip issue.

Wenger also spoke of his decision to drop Carl Jenkinson for the first time this season after Bacary Sagna recovered from a broken leg for the visit of QPR:

“It was a tough decision, very tough. The team was a bit low in confidence and I felt experience at the back could help. Of course Bacary Sagna has an advantage on Jenkinson in experience. But I am very, very happy and thrilled with what Jenkinson has done until now and he will play again this season of course. It was a difficult decision, but I would like to give credit to Carl. What he has done is extremely promising and he is so young, so where he is now at his age now is fantastic. Two years ago he was playing in League One, and where he is now is fantastic.”

Sagna’s return helped Arsenal to their first clean sheet in six matches after a poor run of defensive showings. Jenkinson had started the season solidly, with a clean sheet in each of his first three games, but as the backline started to look a little dodgy, Wenger is clearly turning to the more experience heads to get his side’s campaign back on track. With a trip to Old Trafford and a north London derby with Spurs in the next three, Sagna looks in the driving seat to maintain his starting berth; handing Jenkinson’s 21% FPL owners a real dilemma, with his game time looking anything but assured now the Frenchman is fit and available.

Brian McDermott has denied reports of a falling out with Danny Guthrie after the former Newcastle man was left out of the Reading squad for last week’s home game with Fulham.

“There was no bust-up. He wasn’t selected and trained yesterday. The players that are not in the side support the players that are in the side. I try to have a conversation with the players not playing and I did that… He wasn’t selected, but he’s fit. He’s part of the squad of 20-odd players and has got to get himself into the 18. I just felt it was the right thing to do.”

Guthrie had started the Royals’ first four in “the hole” before being dropped for a couple of games with McDermott moving to 4-4-2 but returned to action in the Gameweek 8 trip to Liverpool with the visitors returning to a more defensive shape. An injury to Jem Karacan looked set to afford Guthrie another run in the first XI but his manager’s decision to omit the midfielder from his squad completely was a huge surprise. Guthrie was a popular cut-price option at the start of the season but has now dropped to 4.3 in FPL – the sales look set to continue, with his failure to convince McDermott a clear worry for his 4.3% owners.

Chris Brunt, Jerome Thomas, Billy Jones and Boaz Myhill all continued their comebacks from injury by turning out for West Brom’s U21 game against Reading yesterday afternoon. While Thomas and Myhill have yet to feature for the Baggies this term, Brunt limped out of the Gameweek 6 derby with Aston Villa due to a hamstring injury, while Jones stepped in for regular right-back Steven Reid in Gameweek 3. He, too, picked up an injury in the Villa match and has been sidelined since then – with Reid still unavailable, Jones may be set to challenge Gabriel Tamas for the role against Southampton next Monday if he can prove his fitness.

same here. i think he is a loyal man and it might affect him considering the love he had for arsenal. people will say he dont care as he left but he left purely for footballing reasons unlike the likes of adebayor etc..

also depends on how arsenal fans treat him when he touches ball. if he gets booed i reckon he might bang a few in

Sagna's attacking upside isn't really as big as I'd thought. Averaged 1 goal and 3 assists for each of the last few seasons (obviously being crocked last season didn't help much but previous seasons are the same)

As someone who had the pleasure(??) of being at the Emirates on Saturday...

Sagna did look great, obviously you get nothing for tackles in this game, but he was active at both ends of the pitch. Whatever else Wenger does this year, bringing a player back from injury to look that bright for 90 minutes is excellent.

I'm planning a mass exodus of Arsenal players though. I think unless money is spent in January the 1-0 to the Arsenal days are back (at best).

The last part of your post - why would you then shed defenders?

Sagna is the best RB in the league, I don't doubt that but he's never been prolific FPLwise.

I'm planning to keep Gibbs - unless he is still knacked by the time I have transfers spare.

I guess I just feel Arsenal are going to have such trouble scoring, you need to have a defender you can basically pay for with CS. And yeah, Sagna could do that.

Maybe being a bit pessimistic, as Saturday was so bad. We looked shot for confidence going forward, a lot of shooting opportunities went by because no one wanted to take a shot.

    REPOST

how much prise rise/value would you take a hit for?

for example juan mata will keep rising 0.3m every week until most have him in. i bought him in sunday evening after united game and he is close to rising 0.2m. same for sterling.

so for four points iv already gained value of 0.5m over my rivals which i think is worth a 4pt hit in long run. come second part of season, i will be able to get the big hitters while they will struggle.

paid off last year if you do it cleverly

i aint talking about doing it blindly. it has to be with a degree of skill. i put in BA and wilson for jonson and lambert. got the 4pts back and more with ba. wilson would have got 6 too had it not been for freak injury.

in the process i gained value on both too. if they wernt both injured now, their price would be rising more

off course, those are just smart tranfers. just find my mates panic sell players as soon as they lose value (e.g tevez) whereas ill accept a drop in value if i know theyll keep on scoring. that being said my team value is piss poor

        it looks good to me.
but then I don't believe the Cazorla hype for 9m+, and Sterling looks good and will only rise in price if he keeps playing like he does.

Hey guys wondering if anyone can help me. In Ultimate Team Fifa 13 i stupidly entered a single player season with out reading the requirements. I entered the Alegue season when my team needs to be 2 1/2 star or lower and my team is 4 1/2 star. Does anyone know how to exit out of the tornament because i can not find a way to???

I did the same mate, and you can't do anything. You need to buy the players to play the season. By a free bronze packs and kit your team out with whatever you get. Use it as a ttraining or practice. Then sell after the season had finished.

    Need help!

This looks like a gameweek where I will have to make a big decision on my team, options have so far boiled down to this.

    a) Caz and Tevez to 7.5 mid and RVP(-4)
    b) Caz and Jelly to 6.7 mid and RVP (-4)
    c) Jenkinson, Nolan, Tevez to Nelsen, Sterling, RVP(-8)
    d) Jenkinson to Nelsen and get RVP next week.

As my mid priced mid I am thinking Hoilett for options a and b.

    Thanks for any thoughts!

Torres out for Pog with one free, leaves me 10.6 for a mid with second free switching to 3-5-2 with three heavy hitters and two starting price choice cheapies...

So, Bale or Hazard? Other players are:

    Cazorla Mata Nolan Pienaar ?
    Tevez RVP

Figure Bale gives me coverage of all the current top six teams which is nice, but getting Hazard back allows me to keep doubling on Chels. Or shall I just stick with Torres and deal with Wilson?

    Mark Clattenberg

My first thought was that Chelsea have made up the complaint as a way of getting back at Clattenberg's 2 red cards. Drastic, I know, but in their heads, it serves him right for sending 2 of our players off. 'He'll never ref us again' type attitude.

I may not be the first to think or say it, but, correct me if i'm wrong, I haven't seen this (pretty obvious) theory put out anywhere else.

    Or maybe Clattenberg's a racist!

You might be. I'm not. I've not seen it mentioned on here (to be fair the boards move quite fast)

It's obviously not going to go away for a while, so merits discussion. Plus it beats all the RMT that flood here.

So, if you don't mind, from a Chelsea POV what are your thoughts? Is it likely you guys fabricated the story?

To be honest, I don't think we'd drag racism into it just to get back at him. We've had some problems with our captain concerning that racist rant, that's probably the last thing anyone would do cause if we're proved wrong, it'd be very bad for the reputation of the club. And Clattenburg's got a history too, with Craig Bellamy 2-3 seasons back when he was at City.

Seen 3 versions of what he's supposed to have said. All could be wrong mind you

      1) He called Mata a "Spanish tw*t". Obviously bad, shouldn't say it, shouldn't be a ref anymore but due to historical issues it's not as bad as Terry/Suarez.

      2) He called Mikel a "monkey". Yeah awful, berate him, shame him and ban him.

      3) He called Mikel a "cheeky monkey". Perhaps not the best choice of words but any native English speaker knows thats a turn of phrase, not a racial slur.

0.4m does hurt I think. Got Mata in at 9.2, Caz at 9.2, Bale at 9.3 and RVP at 13. Whoever's been avoiding, I think I'm up by a million already. 😉

I can't be bothered to work it all out but I used the money that wasn't tied up in RVP to get guys on the rise and I'm fairly sure I've made more than 0.4m out of all that.

          Mata @ 8.9, Caz @ 9.0, Ba @ 8.0, Bale @ 9.3, Suarez @ 9.4 etc etc

You've been losing regular RVP(c) returns each week though. 😉

And don't I just know it!

Just hoping it hasn't cost me my minileague. Very early though and arguably his biggest returns are coming
