A perfect set-piece routine that had Gary Neville purring set the Potters on their way, only for West Ham to find an unlikely source for their equaliser. Here’s the Stock Check following tonight’s muscular affair at Upton Park…

On the Up

Joey O’Brien
The former Bolton man struck his first Premier League goal to bring the Hammers back on terms as Big Sam’s men rallied for the second period. O’Brien once again lined up at right-back, leaving a fit-again Guy Demel stranded on the bench. The 4.0 prospect has started the last three league outings, earned an assist in Gameweek 11 and is now ranked second amongst West Ham’s defenders in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. With bonus to follow, O’Brien is set to earn new suitors, although West Ham’s short-term fixtures remain a concern.

Jon Walters
A superbly worked goal reminded us of the quality that Walters has in his game but this was only his second strike of the season. Even as a 6.3 midfielder in the FPL, pushed up alongside Peter Crouch in attack, he’s been overshadowed by a gang of similar mid-price talent this term, not least Kevin Nolan in opposition tonight.

Going Down

Guy Demel and James Collins
Both have returned to fitness but have been kept on the bench for two consecutive matches by the Hammers. It seems that Collins faces a fight to earn a recall alongside Winston Reid as James Tomkins stakes his claim for regular starts. As for Demel, his prospects took a bigger dent has Joey O’Brien impressed again in the right-back berth.

Mark Noble
The booking tonight took him to four for the season, lifting him onto Anorak’s “Suspension Tightrope” and leaving him just one yellow from a one-match ban. Noble is owned by over 5% of the FPL player base.

Andy Wilkinson
The make-shift left-back limped off after 32 minutes after picking up an injury and will now presumably be an early doubt for the home clash with Fulham.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What would you do with funds? If it means you can afford RVP for Ba/Berb, then yes. If not... then maybe stick. It does seem a waste for that much money to be sat on the bench everyweek.

Not bad. Luckily, I have enough value to have rvp. If I take a hit to bring in silva, I can have this:

      Begovic
      Baines, rafa, Nelsen, Davies, gorkss
      Mata, silva, bale, fellaini, sterling
      Rvp, Suarez, berba

If you were walking through a forest of FPL options and wanted to go off the beaten track.

United have 2 attractive home games next. Rooney has accounted for 29% of Uniteds shots at home, to RVP's 20%. Is on pens and in a limited sample size admittedly, he has outscored RVP when both have played at home in the league I believe (have not double checked this, so could be wrong.). Away from home, Rooney has not being as impressive, though still racking up improving numbers and getting some rewards in the Champions league.

Rooney has around 6% ownership and is 1.9 million cheaper. On pens as well.

I'm not going to try and convince you it is a safe move, RVP has the ownership for a reason and risky moves always look bold until a douse of hindsight is shined on them, but as I say, if you wanted a walk down the road less traveled..

I know, I meant overall as an average. Saying that, had Rooney not missed that pen, 3 baps were his and a goal. So small margins.

Even though in that game, Rooney played allot deeper. Against the weaker sides at home, he seems to push on.

Generally speaking that is how it goes. If it works out, everyone will say it was obvious in hindsight or no one could have predicted it.

People are averse to risk. I think it's a fair enough calculated gamble and see potential.

Massive question, and an incredibly tricky one to answer.

I'm leaning towards Demba Ba but I feel very unsure, and I doubt that those who will try and give a definite answer will have much more to go on than I have.

Between the 2 it's very difficult to choose. Berba is far more creative and could do more damage than the single goal in one given game. On the other hand we're almost sure than when it comes to Newcastle scoring, Demba will be in the scoring sheet as for Fulham the scoring could be spread. I reckon they're both on pens so the decisive facotr could be anticipating a declining form which I can't see to occur for both of them. Makes sense?

          Makes total sense.

I'm fairly sure both will be very very good options, but you'd also like one or two of the pricier strikers. Tricky!

Does anyone agree with me that it looks increasingly unlikely that you'll keep Baines for much longer? It's simply impossible to work with him and RVP in the team. And I know which one I'd prefer to get rid of.

I'm going to aim to have two Manchester defenders ultimately and maybe or alternatively Mertesacker/Sagna with Rafael. And just have Gorkss/Cuellar/Garrido as my go-to-guys when it comes to fixtures. Even benching Rafael/Sagna/Clichy some weeks to accomodate for good fixtures from these cheaper guys.

This way there's so much flexibility with midfield and forwards. with 2 transfers I can jump on Aguero or Suarez by downgrading a midfielder.

I think it sounds a lot more fun than just having Baines there every week. I can deal with missing out on a few monster scores as the risk is spread on some good differential defenders.

Stops you from a bench problem, allows you to play the right defenders each week.

Problem is I couldn't trust Suarez, great form now but he can slip. What's more concerning is when Borini comes back into the picture, that might eat up his returns.

      I'd say
RVP, Aguero/Tevez (happy with either for the season) and Ba (on the condition that they go back to playing a proper 4-3-3).

What makes you believe Borini will eat up his returns? It's much more likely that Liverpool add someone in the window that could impact Suarez.

This is good news as far as I am concerned as I'm hoping to keep my free for next week and already have certain transfers planned too much of a rise in the players I want (or fall in the players I'm shipping out) may prevent me from doing what I currently have planned... of course injuries, etc could always derail my plan too.

I'd lose Nolan ahead of Fellaini. Think who you want to upgrade Crouch to, (much better options than Lambert) then work out how much money you need. Consider Maloney ahead of Puncheon, who also rotates well with Sterling.

Done my 2FT, trying to think ahead now, looking at moving on another 3 players in the next month or so. McAnuff and either Rafael/Baines are on my out list, I want to move on Rafael more though, I think position is under threat now the injurys are easing on United. Don't know why people want to get rid of Baines, yes he costs a lot and been a bit dry, but he isn't anonymous, Everton letting to many goals in. Get rid of Baines and regret it in the near future IMO.

Berbatov may also feel the pain if it means I can bring in Aguero or Tevez.

Walcott and Garrido are in this week, for Michu and Riise. Going to try and get some West Brom coverage, Liverpool defence and Man City forward coverage. I just hope prices don't rise, I'm stuck for cash. If I find myself in sh*t, I will have to pull a Puncheon out of its nest...........I'll get my coat, socks, trousers, shirt on shall I.....no boxers though. COMMANDO.

    Baines Cuellar Santon Shawx Gorkss
    Bale BenArfa Fellaini Michu Sterling
    Aguero VP Crouch

    Few ideas:

    1. Barfa & Santon > Walcott & Clyne
    2. Crouch & Santon > Fletcher & BJones

Fletcher - 1 goal in 6. Great start to his Sunderland career with some nice fixtures but 1 in 6?

Walcott - Quality but seriously inconsistent.

Garrido - 1 assist in 11 games for an attacking full-back. Points very determined by Norwich's ability to keep having clean sheets.

Shorey - Brilliant in Reading days of old. Now on free kicks. 1 assist in 8 games, another depending on Reading's recent ability to keep clean sheets. Shaky enough.

Cuellar - Some handy fixtures coming but Sunderland could only keep 3 sheets in 12 games and not all their coming fixtures are so rosy.

Some of the players a lot are talking about getting in. Might all be great but potentially not as good as they seem.

I think you'd be right purely in footballing terms, but he always managed to provide at least one decent pass for Van Persie to bang in, and so in FPL he generally did well. Frustrating as hell to watch as a supporter though.

Sunderland have only had 4 home games to 7 away games. 3 CS is good for that period really. And they have one of the best defensive records going. Only conceding 3 away to City. Cuellar is a no brainer with the coming fixtures.

Walcott el capitan Villa away! Hat-trick and 5 assists! But we all know it will fail miserably, he will have a 1 min cameo start and then get stretchered of with 2 broken legs, after I transferred him in for Michu, who will then go and score a few against my team. And then to rub salt in the wounds, van Persie will bag a hat-trick and 5 assists against QPR after I captained him for the last 2 miserable weeks.

    It's how FPL works.

Perhaps reverse psychology will work? I is gonna do cwap next week....I am.... 😀

LOL I suppose the thing is...big central defenders are just good for corners and they do seem to score these kind of goals with decent regularity each year.

Cuellar's too deliciously cheap to turn down. I'd double up with Bardo and Cuellar if I were you.

Do you need Spurs cover though. They're not really a great 'cover' team. I'd only say Arsenal/Man Utd/City and Chelsea are worthy of the coverage thing.

But when it comes to a decent run of fixtures for Spurs who else could you pick? Last seasons top four have 5 or 6 viable options, Spurs have one.

Yeah, go for Bale if you feel like it. But it's also highly dependent on his form and the fact that he hasn't done anything at home for yonks kind of suggests it's not worth bothering with him for the moment. In fact I would say he's one of the most frustrating players to own in the game. Plus he's a bit of a glorified winger...he doesn't compare to the creativity of Mata/Silva.

Silva is twenty times the player Bale can ever hope to be. Bale hasn't scored at home in the league since last Jaunary! And what's more, Silva in FPL is cheaper!

        Bales points for last 2 seaons 118 & 195.
        Silvas points for last 2 seasons 144 & 184.
I'm struggling to see where Siva is 20 times better than Bale or do you just mean in 'real' terms!

Bale, by just going on last season Silva is really consistent lots of assists but doesn't score as many goals. I'm hesitant to say Bale is more 'explosive' but something along those lines, just my opinion of course. Also, Bale is main fantasy asset at Spurs while I'd argue Aguero is at the fore for City.

Gosh... that depends a lot on Tottenham's form. If fit Silva will nearly always play and will consistently produce as he will always get good supply and in turn his supply will be finished clinically. Bale has the potential to be the highest scoring mid, but he needs help. Dembele would help here.
