A wet and windy Saturday is warmed by a dozen Premier League fixtures, beginning with Sunderland’s clash with the Baggies with the Stadium of Light and culminating in Arsenal’s trip to Villa Park this evening. In between, Robin Van Persie will wear the Fantasy armband for thousands as QPR turn up at Old Trafford hoping the incentive of the new broom will help them stand up to the United assault.

Our Saturday Surgery Chatroom is now open, signally the start of our the Gameweek, with just over an hour to go before the deadline drops.

The day’s Dugout Discussion follows around 12.30, with a philosophical preamble on the way in the next half hour.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    a) Save the transfer, or
    b) Berba -> Fletcher

    Fixtures scream b). Player and team says a). Which gets your vote?

    Fed, (Jaask)
    Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, (Clyne), (McCartney)
    Bale, Silva, Michu, Taarabt, (Fellaini)

    On Saturday morning, everyone s thinking about that last FT to perfect this week's team. It's important however to plan longer term. Here's what I'm thinking for the next few GWs:

    Top teams will tighten their DEF - therefore invest in MC, MU, CHE - good candidates are Terry (*shudders*), Kompany etc.
    It's important to have a 5th MF who is playable any week; same goes for a 4th DEF. there are more injuries as the season progresses.

    Overall this means we need to switch from early season thinking in which we spend as little as possible on bench players and focus all our cash on heavy hitters, and start to spread the wealth a little more. I'm thinking about moves for lower-priced players who can reasonably substitute for heavy hitters. In MF having 2 or 3 of the Sterling/ Morrison /Maloney brigade starts to make sense. Buying/selling the heavy hitters per form/fixtures then becomes a good use of FTs. Freed-up cash is then used to balance the squad and bring in an extra higher-priced DEF.

    Thoughts?

        I don't this I've done it consciously. But you learn from experience, and mine suggests this might be a good strategy. I'm interested to hear what the 'veterans' think.

      Was hanging on until Jan WC, but fixtures seem to be coming so thick and fast (8 games before Jan). Have dumped all Chelsea but will stock back up during WC for DGW. Have bought in cuellar and AJ because Sunderland are all or nothing and | think they will hit form and get 7 points from next 3 games. Want to bulk up midfield and have 3 big hitters (of bale, santi, silva, mata) as my core. Keeping Baines Fellaini Nolan and Rafael for season unless injured. (I know Fellaini and Nolan will hit a dry spell and not score for 5 or 6 but they are just so entertaining to watch when in my starting XI - chance magnets). RVP is a keeper but wouldnt mind if he got a long injury. Want 3 Arsenal (bringing in Szczesny for Jussi before next weekend) - plus either sagna or giroud. Players will start to be rested. An injury to Jelavic would guarentee Anichebe a start which at 4.8 would be quality. PLayers will be rested this midweek and over xmas. 15 starters are essential - maybe sacrificing RVP would be wise if needed to free up some cash. (if he starts getting tired/rested)

      I'd want to see more of puncheon first. Maybe just do one transfer and I would look to get done Sunderland in. Nolan > aj poss or Berb/ ba > fletcher better. You could just do nothing.

    Morning!
    Play McAuley or Huth?
    I've got Berbs and don't want the 'cancellation factor' so currently thinking McAuley...

    Bring in Enrique for a hit (for a def who never plays) and bench Nolan/crouch? My rival has Suarez and I have no Liverpool coverage

      Good call. Thinking the same, altho would like to see him oop for a couple more games before being a true believer.

    Let's play a little game. Differential captain choice?

    I fancy a cheeky little return from none other than Adel Taarabt.

      Differential and highly risky are not the same thing at all.

    d) another option

    Berbs -> Giroud? No hit.

    I have walcott already and Berbs has some tough fixtures.
