A bitterly disappointing goalless stalemate brings Saturday’s events to a whimpering close and leaves us hoping for a Sunday blowout. Here’s the somewhat limited Stock Check on this evening’s “action”…

On the Up

Kieran Gibbs
Back fit and in the frame, Arsene Wenger restored the left-back to his back four and decided to omit Thomas Vermaelen. While this casts some doubt over Wenger’s first choice central defensive pairing, Gibbs looks assured of starts at left-back when fit.

The Villa Defence
It was only their third clean sheet of the season but a determined showing will have encouraged Paul Lambert. With Reading, QPR and Stoke in the next three, there could be some low-to-mid price potential on offer, with Brad Guzan in goal and Ciaran Clark perhaps short-term punts. The injury to Ron Vlaar, which saw him withdrawn just after half-time, will be a concern, though.

Going Down

Santi Cazorla
Having fetched double figures against Spurs, Cazorla’s impact was again reduced by the abject performances of those around him. Without Theo Walcott, the Gunners again appeared to lack pace and penetration and for all Olivier Giroud’s neat touches, he failed to present a significant threat to the Villa defence.

Bacary Sagna
Somewhat surprisingly rested to the bench, the rotation with Carl Jenkinson could be a concern from this point on. With the Gunners progressing in the Champions League, tonight’s teamsheet would indicate that Wenger will look to give Jenkinson numerous opportunities at Sagna’s expense – another boost for Gibbs as the weapon of choice in the Gunners back four.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Tevez has started every game this season except one. Balotelli looks like he's pissed off Mancini for the last time, Dzeko is the supersub.

If I was manager and had those 4 strikers, I'd start Aguero and Tevez every time.

He's started 3 games in a week once all season and in all 3 he was subbed off early.

Every other time they've had 3 games in a week he's been benched at least once in the 3.

3 games in 7 days, Mancini loves his forward rotation.

Tevez didn't start in the CL, so he'll start tomorrow. He won't play 3 in a week so I think he'll be rested midweek and then play next weekend.

All season, Tevez has never played PL game, cup game, PL game all season, just coz it's a league game in midweek rather than a cup game, doesn't make it less likely he won't start imo,

They are playing for the title, Balo has been hopeless also. Most of his players will play 3 games, no reason why Tevez can't.

He could do it, I just don't think Mancini will have him start all 3.

He has to play Dzeko and Balo sometime or they'll get annoyed. And he needs them in case Aguero/Tevez get injured again. He also loves rotating for no reason at all!

Balo is always annoyed 😉 Mancini won't give a toss about players moods, proved that with Tevez last season.

                  True.

But I still think Dzeko will get 1 start this week in the 3 games and Wigan's the most likely game imo, as it allows a rest in between games for the striker he replaces and is an "easier" game.

Aguero could get rested rather than Tevez but I doubt it personally.

Ba will definitely play midweek because Newcastle need him badly. Tevez could be prone to rotation due to the heavy schedule. I'd say its a very risky trade and it would be prudent to hang onto Ba IMO

Just brought in Val but he is injured for a bit. Need to swap him out. Current team is:

    Bego
    Gorkks Cuellar Rafa (Nelsen) (Clyne)
    Caz Bale Sterling Val (Fell)
    RVP Ba Fletch

Have 1.4m in the bank so just short off Haz, who I transferred out for Val.
    Silva? Mata?

Why? Won't Chelsea need time to adjust with the new manager? Feels like I have missed the ship and will be chasing points. Or I could take Mata and swap out to Silva once Chelsea has that blank fixture to catch the supposed 'honeymoon' period of a new manager.

Mata is the heart of the side, as shown when he was dropped for the West Brom game, there is no way a new manager already under pressure will drop Chelsea's best player for a while. Mata & co will also want to make a good first impression with Rafa especially the one Mata is feeding....Torres.

Same could be said for Silva minus the new manager thing but you do raise a good point. The thing with Chelsea for me is their points are shared among many players, which is less the case in City. Though you have me leaning towards Mata more so far. Any other decent options for a few weeks or pressing transfers?

Citeh- Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko(off the bench), Silva, Nasri, Yaya. All capable of scoring.

Chelsea- Mata, Hazard(go big or go home), Torres(occasionally), Oscar(only really assists), Fatty(just pens).

Nasri and Yaya won't start every game or if they do there are more influential players and they are forced to more defensive duties, I think in regards to Silva v Mata it's pretty much the same so it has to go down to fixtures really. Would you agree?

Would love to have the trifecta of Silva, Mata and Caz but there's just no room.

Yaya has played every minute of every league game this season, so I'm puzzled as to your statement and has averaged over 140 pts in his previous 2 seasons so he is always capable of a big score. A bit sluggish in the scoring stakes this season though.

That would involve me taking out either Bale or Fell who are keepers for me. Otherwise it is doable if I take out Sterling, but that would mean either playing 5 in midfield weekly or having to choose a big hitter to bench, which is hard and unpredictable.

    Guys!!!

I have to get rid of HBA and have to do it tonight... I want to get WBA and Sunderland midfielders because they rotate perfectly but have funds for these options only:

    A) Gera & Johnson
    B) Gera & Sessegnon
    C) Morisson & Johnson

Which is the best? Thanks for help

Gera won't start every game, if you accept that and still think you can cover him not playing with your bench, then go ahead with him.

If Mulumbu's injured, don't go for Morrison either. If he's fit, go for C.

Perhaps the biggest challenge right now is keeping to the plan when the captain fails. Looking at my first twelve gws, I hit big (16 plus when doubled) four times, did fine (8-14) four times, and then missed (less than 8) four times. Having a captain pick hit compensates for other structural weaknesses in the team and really makes or beaks a Gw. Have others been more successful with their captain picks?

What do people think of downgrading Baines to have 5 defenders 4.6 or cheaper?

I really don't think these "big hitting" defenders are offering good value. Clean sheets few and far between this year and attacking returns are very inconsistent. Cheaper defenders are getting around the same number of points for 2 or 3m less, cash I can used on mids or fwds who will get consistent returns.

If I get rid of Baines I'll have a defence of Cameron, Cuellar, Garrido, Nelsen and McCartney.

I did about an hour ago for a hit Baines+Ba -> Garrido + Aguero and i think they can give me those extra 4 points immediately. I am tired of Baines waiting for a penalty or a clean sheet and he is way too expensive.

nice one so you'll be hoping Aguero gets no red cards/injuries tomorrow then?

I had to because i wanted Garrido and he was rising. My front 8 are now

          Fellaini,Michu,Nolan,Sessegnon,Mata

          RvP, Aguero,Giroud

so i can handle one man out though i wish that man is not Aguero 😛

Go for it. You seem to have convinced yourself. There isn't an obvious "right" answer, and it's true that Baines isn't "value", but you are going to have to make up a good chunk of points if you make that move, and there are "value" midfielders who are equally scoring almost as much as the "big hitting" mids. Pick your poison. You have to have some cheap players somewhere.

Looks like, for the first time in my FPL history, I'm going to keep the exact same line-up, subs order and captain / vice-captain choices for next week as I am for this. I should probably have picked this week to go on holiday...

The points are so well spread among the players this season. Not a single player is a "must have" imo
