[sbu_large_image] The Stock Check

A bitterly disappointing goalless stalemate brings Saturday’s events to a whimpering close and leaves us hoping for a Sunday blowout. Here’s the somewhat limited Stock Check on this evening’s “action”…

On the Up

Kieran Gibbs
Back fit and in the frame, Arsene Wenger restored the left-back to his back four and decided to omit Thomas Vermaelen. While this casts some doubt over Wenger’s first choice central defensive pairing, Gibbs looks assured of starts at left-back when fit.

The Villa Defence
It was only their third clean sheet of the season but a determined showing will have encouraged Paul Lambert. With Reading, QPR and Stoke in the next three, there could be some low-to-mid price potential on offer, with Brad Guzan in goal and Ciaran Clark perhaps short-term punts. The injury to Ron Vlaar, which saw him withdrawn just after half-time, will be a concern, though.

Going Down

Santi Cazorla
Having fetched double figures against Spurs, Cazorla’s impact was again reduced by the abject performances of those around him. Without Theo Walcott, the Gunners again appeared to lack pace and penetration and for all Olivier Giroud’s neat touches, he failed to present a significant threat to the Villa defence.

Bacary Sagna
Somewhat surprisingly rested to the bench, the rotation with Carl Jenkinson could be a concern from this point on. With the Gunners progressing in the Champions League, tonight’s teamsheet would indicate that Wenger will look to give Jenkinson numerous opportunities at Sagna’s expense – another boost for Gibbs as the weapon of choice in the Gunners back four.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

morning lads, so am still inclined to save the transfer this week as I forsee much rotation mid week. Currently going in with

    Migs

    Rafa, Baines. Huth

    Mata, Michu, Ramirez, Morrison

    Berba, RvP, Jelly

    Foster. Sterling, Shorey, Clyne

Got 2.4 in bank, but want to do Jelly to Aguero so I need to free up about 0.5. Saving for GW14 allows me to do it for free.

Anyone sitting around the 50k to 200k mark, don't be disheartened....

There are 71 points separating 1k and 50k places but only 39 points separating 50k and 200k.

If like me your rank has taken a battering recently, one decent score should take you back up into the mix.

10K is more than possible with better captain choices. DGWs & Jan WC means passing dead teams especially if Tevez fails.

Morning all! Interesting form vs fixture debate for you...
Which defence would you be more inclined to back i.e. double-up on?
Stoke; NEW, wba, avl - pros: form, clean sheet record, cons: mot ideal fixtures
Sunderland; QPR, nor, CHE, RDG - pros: better fixtures, DGW, cons: poor form

So would you go form over the combination of fixtures, including a DGW?

    Cheers

i will get rid after the newcastle game, the five after dont look good. west brom away sounds nice but it wont be, villa have a lot attacking threat with bent benteke and wiemann. then they have everton at home, spurs away and then home to liverpool

norwich has a better chance than stoke of cleanies

yes it is and I have faith

My plan was to switch Huth to Cameron. Not considering Guzan as he has no rotation with Migs and not doubling on Reading. If I sell Foster it will be because he is out long-term, in which case I will just get Myhill.

nah RvP got a rest v Gala and Hernandez has shown he is more effective as a sub. RvP will play IMO

Not so sure on Aguero, hence why I'm inclined to wait. he will have started 4 games in a week if he plays today. I can see mancini using the Wigan game as an opportunity to rest him

So I panic purchased last night bringing in Suarez, Morrison and Gorkss for Berba, Pienaar and Baird. My team now is:

    Begovic . Jaaskelainen
    Rafael . Gorkss . Cameron . Nelson . Cuellar
    Mata . Bale . Sterling . Morrison . Fellaini
    RVP . Tevez . Suarez

Who would you bench for next week? I'm thinking Jaaskelainen, Nelson, Sterling and Cameron

What to do with this team? I am currently in the top 1k but after the scores are updated today I imagine I will be well out of it.

    Team for next week:

    Begovic
    Baines / G.Johnson / Cuellar
    Mata / Silva / Walcott / Puncheon
    Rooney (c) / Giroud / Fletcher (vc)

    McCarthy / Sterling / Gorkss / Nelsen

    1 FT & £4.3m in the bank

    Any thoughts?

wow you have a lot of free cash knocking about. wc used to build team value as that is insane?

Personally I'm advising everyone with 1FT to save it as I think there will be a lot of rotation mid-week that will catch people out, so you may as well stick with what you have. I also don't see where you'd spend it unless Theo is out long-term.

Thanks, that is a very good point about midweek rotation, I think I will take your advise and pocket the FT.

No my WC wasn't used to build up team value, it's just accumulated over the last few transfers I have made. Apart from upgrading McCarthy im noy wuite sure where to spend the cash.

Who to bench from Sterling, Felliani and Cazorla for next GW?

Cazorla and Felliani face each other and Sterling on paper has an easy fixture against Norwich...

Of course if Suarez gets an yellow today, I guess I have to play all 3...

I just got rid of Cuellar after watching Sunderland's awful defensive display last night. Seriously they could have a quadruple gameweek coming up and wouldn't get a cleanie. O'Shea got dragged at half time because he was so poor positionally.

I'm planning Noble > Silva and therefore am happy to ship out Baines to afford it. Who would you bring in for £5m or less?
    A) Garrido
    B) Cameron
    C) O'Shea
    D) other suggestion

    Team is currently;
    Bego Jussi
    Baines McAuley Mertesacker Cuellar Demel
    Mata Fellaini Michu Maloney Noble
    RVP Tevez Berba
    2 FT, £2m in bank

I feel sure I can do without Baines, but not sure between Garrido/Cameron/Doubling-up on Sunderland defence or on Santi vs Silva?

Which 5 defences would you be most confident in keeping home clean sheets? I reckon Stoke, Norwich, West Ham, West Brom and Liverpool.
