Just as Paddy drew level, our treble came in. A goal for Luis Suarez, coupled with an assist for David Silva and a City clean sheet in the win over Villa handed us another timely windfall and put us back in the black. Our bookmaker friends in retreat, we missed out on the Flutter last weekend but it returns for the midweek menu, with Paddy looking to prise back our winnings…

First up for Wednesday’s matches, we look to a name that’s been circulating the community for the last 48-hours: Southampton’s Gaston Ramirez. He’s on many a wishlist following a goal and assist return against Newcastle, and we’re willing to back his form with a few quid. Paddy are dangling 15/2 on another Ramirez goal against Norwich, packaged with a second consecutive Southampton cleanie. Ramirez is in fashion and even the Saints back four are playing with some confidence. We’ll take Paddy’s offer for £2 of our tenner.

Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon is another name garnering attention following the weekend events. A potential template breaker in midfield, Sessegnon is showing glimpses of last season’s form just in time for the Black Cats’ double fixture in Gameweek 16. After a goal and assist return in the damaging defeat to West Brom, can Sessegnon find the net when Harry’s boys visit the North-East? Paddy are offering 6/1 on a Sessegnon goal with a Sunderland shut-out against QPR. Again, we’ll chuck a couple of quid at this, with Sessegnon there or thereabouts for the Picks for the Gameweek.

Villa’s Christian Benteke is another player we’ve got a lot of time for: he’s proved integral to Villa’s threat in recent weeks and is certain to trouble Reading’s faltering back line tomorrow evening. Paul Lambert’s side are far from prolific, but we fancy them to break the shackles against the Royals and, with Paddy offering 4/1 on a Benteke goal with a Villa clean sheet, we’ll take that for £3 of our hard earned.

That leaves a handsome £3 left for the treble – having won out on this the last time around, we’re going into this one with confidence. Paddy have 10/1 on a Robin Van Persie goal against West Ham, a Juan Mata assist when Chelsea face Fulham and a Stoke clean sheet against the wounded Magpies.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

    Thoughts on this:

    Bego, Tremmel
    Baines, Gallas(?), Saylor(!), Hughes, Demel(!)
    Hazard, Bale, Fellaini, Sterling, McAnuff
    RVP, Jelavic, Fletcher

    1FT, 1.3 banked

    A) This week Saylor >Cuellar, next week Baines+Jelly > Enrique/Wisdom+Suarez
    B) This week save, next week Baines+Haz+Jelly > Enrique+Silva/Santi+Suarez

Whats my priority here, get Cuellar or wait until DGW to get him?

Is there merit to the question about players contradicting each other in our starting lineup when considering points potential for your squad. I would argue that going double stoke defence and having Ba has less points potential than Just having Begovic and starting another defender such as Davies. Can one argue that there is higher points potential for...

    Ba(sto), Begovic(NEW), Davies(WBA)
    over
Ba(sto), Cameron (NEW) & Begovic (NEW)

Clearly the first option has higher potential for points but obviously it requires your hunch to be correct (regarding clean sheets and goals being scored). I think there is merit where there is a tough selection dilema to err on the side of not having contradictions in your starting 11. See my problem below.
*=potential starters/non starters and clear contradictions

    Begovic (NEW)

Baines (ARS), *Cameron (NEW)*, *Caulker (LIV)*

Mata(FUL), Bale (LIV), Fellaini (ARS), *Walcott (eve)*

    RVPc(WHA), Ba(sto), Berbatov(che)

    Bench: *Sterling(tot)*, *Davies(WBA)*, *Shorey(avl)*

Any one of my squad of 15 could start and do well, should I not choose to chase after maximum points potential for my squad and back the likes of Davies and Shorey?

Just to continue this discussion a bit further, the point is that yes, if you have a legitimate hunch of a certain thing happening in a match (say Newcastle destroying Stoke 0-3 because of some factor), then the % projections - if you are right - also changes, making my point still valid. Yes, the potential of coal + clean sheet becomes 0, but that is irrelevant as you are gathering total points, not 'goal and CS combos'.

In all likelyhood Walcott will be out injured and I'm not willing to play 4 at the back. It seems I will be forced to start Ba and Sterling and just hope for the best. The best in this scenario would be to not start Caulker(LIV) and Cameron(NEW). Risk and reward.

Similar dilemma to mine. Currently faced with the prospect of playing all of Begovic, Shawcross and Ba
Really loathe to bench Ba, but given the current form of Newcastle, I can't see any other alternative, if looking to not contradict your point-scoring potential

In either case(s), you'd have to back Stoke in for a CS, more so over Ba scoring, if you had to choose?

I suppose it'll also depend on adequate cover, which, in your case, is quite good - Davies (WBA)

      Which way are you leaning?

    Sterling.

He is now bringing on more of a headache than a benefit, anyone else having this? Im seriously thinking about taking the cash and getting a 4.5 Puncheon type

-I bought him at 4.5 as my bench sitting 5th mid.
    -95% of the time i play 3-4-3
    - now it means i have to bench( and of course some of these never would) RVP, Berba(Giroud soon) Tevez, Mata. Michu, Bale, Sess (Fellani later) to let him play.

Is it worth holding? He never gets a start for me!

Yes, selling him for Puncheon (who MAY not keep his starting place after all) is a risk right now. Sure it sucks that Sterling has left points on your bench but that means he is really becoming an absolute bargain and is playable in good fixtures. It's just about having the guts to bench one of these heavy hittters. I suppose it would help if you had a cheaper mid that was benchable (in the 6m range)

it is nice having a goods points player in reseve, just thinking if that outweighs getting some cash to upgrade elsewhere and having a 4.5er who only comes in for rotation of players in ur starting 11

Possibly so but Sterling actually looks like he's playable in good fixtures and is getting chances. While it's inconvenient. It's a nice inconvenience to have.

Yep, hardly bench fodder is he. Those in a position to rotate him with Puncheon are in a good place. Its not easy having him as a 5th mid but constant injuries/suspensions to others make it easier.

The Nolan > Ramirez transfer is really a tough decision.

The upside is I save some cash and get a promising second striker/in the hole midfielder in good form. But sell Nolan and I might really lose a bargain asset who may well perform despite the tough fixtures.

The downside is Ramirez has NOR liv RDG Blank. Not a great time to buy a player when they have a blank and I'd possibly bench Ramirez for Liverpool and play Sterling over him.

Then there's the added pitfall of owning Mata who ALSO has a blank that week = danger!!

    Any advice? Cheers

I'm tempted by Sess as a 4 week punt. It's not really in tune with my plan to slowly gain cash for upgrades to my strikers but it's kind of tempting.

I honestly think Ramirez has massive upside when compared to Nolan. Saints attack compared to Hammers attack is pretty good as well. Its Ramirez for me.

My argument against it though is it'd essentially be NOR blank (benched) RDG blank

Is it worth getting him right at this moment?

Sterling is a very able substitute, don't let it get to you but Mata needs to go (eventually)

You can't talk about the Rafa effect after one game at home to the champions where they both played extremely conservatively. It had draw written all over it that game. I would not be so quick to come to conclusions.

Mata needs to go eventually anyway regarding the blank. The new manager is very defensive minded and Mata is playing more as a RM instead of a RF

I would not come to those conclusions so quickly. It was against City...the most dangerous team in the league arguably. They were always going to be more defensive-minded. I'm possibly going to be stubborn and keep Mata at whatever cost in the hope the pay off is good over the season. 8.9m I paid for him and he is the only Chelsea player I would want to own. So I'd disagree that he NEEDS to go.

Just read an article by zonalmarking and basically it doesn't look good for Mata. The formation has changed to a more structured 4411. The Team structure has changed permanently with Rafa in charge, he was like that at Liverpool too. I wouldn't expect it to change back to 433.

Yep, I just looked at that on the suggestion from someone above...

I like it for the next 4-5 weeks, but it doesn't hold well enough for me until the Jan WC to justify doing it, and you would probably be looking to change it again anywhere between GW17-19...

If I didn't already have Mata, then I would consider Ramirez, but I don't fancy having 2 mids benched for GW17 and being forced to play 4-3-3...

Ultimately it looks great as a short term punt, no more, no less...

One alternative is just get Sessegnon and have an extra bonus fixture because of the DGW...this is sort of going against my plan of a slow downgrade of my defence/midfield in search of Aguero but maybe it's worth it for a bit?

Probably gonna get shouted down here, but if Anderson can nail down a place in the Utd side (SAF said almost certain to start tomorrow) then at 5.1 I reckon he's good value.

Well capable of a goal or two, route into Utd m/f and he changed the game when he came on at the weekend......thoughts?

2 free transfers, 1 million in the bank. I am thinking Pienaar out for Sess, and then possibly Nolan to Sterling? I am not really sure what to do with the second transfer. I will not be able to make any transfers for Gameweek 15 because I am going on a trip, so whatever I decide needs to be good for the next two gameweeks.

    Begovic
    Rafael Baines Clyne
    Bale Silva Sess Ramirez
    RVP Ba Berba

    Foster Sterling Davies Demel

I'm now thinking of waiting for Newcastle's good fixtures to end (2 weeks) and then get in Arsenal forward cover.
