A couple of midfield protagonists are set to sit on the sidelines after accruing their fifth booking of the season last weekend. Paul Scholes and Mark Noble will both miss out as West Ham travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, with the latter’s absence particularly sore for his side, given he has started every league game so far for the Hammers.

The tightrope welcomes two new contenders after the weekend’s round of matches. Cheick Tiote may have been injured for much of the season but his penchant for picking up yellows remains unquenched – the Ivorian’s caution at St Mary’s yesterday take his tally to four yellows in all competitions ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Stoke on Wednesday. Wigan’s James McArthur fell foul of the ref in his side’s 3-2 win over Reading on Saturday and now balances precariously as the Latics prepare to welcome City to the DW.

Luis Suarez and Michu continue to avoid that fifth yellow which would earn them an automatic ban. With three strong home games in the next five, Suarez looks primed for significant Fantasy attention once again; his owners will be crossing their fingers he stays out of the ref’s notebook against Spurs on Wednesday, bearing in mind he then plays host to Southampton at the weekend.

Those players on four yellows have until New Year until the five-card amnesty kicks in. Basically, if they can avoid another booking in this calendar year, they will then be exempt from the customary one-match ban and receive no more than a warning regarding their future conduct. The limit then moves to 10 yellows, which would earn the guilty party a two-match ban. Most culpable so far are Ahmed El Ahmadi, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel, who lead the way on six yellow cards apiece.

Having served out a one-match ban in Everton’s draw with Norwich, Marouane Fellaini is available for selection as the Toffees host Arsenal, while Fabricio Coloccini will be welcomed back by Alan Pardew as injury-hit Newcastle make their way to Stoke.

Brede Hangeland and Emmanuel Adebayor are both set to skip the second match of their respective three-game bans this midweek.

    What do we think of:

Hangeland + STaylor > Nastasic + Nelsen (free)?

Think Nastasic looks a real good player and Nelsen is the only cheap defender I am considering, unless anyone wants to suggest otherwise?

Incedible. While we all whinge about RVP (c) returning 4x2 points, Ed Elliot had the foresight to captain Bale for 14 and 18 points the last two weeks. He also played Nasri this GW just to fool the rivals and get the points off the bench, the cheeky sod.

I do too. I have Walcott but he isn't nailed on even when fit, which seems to be quite rare in itself. I've no doubt Walcott is a better FPL player when given the minutes, it's just if he gets them that is the problem.

FFS looked at it with a tactical article on the Southampton midfield earlier in the week. Concluded the midfield got a lot better once Cork came in for Davis at central midfield (I think) as he got the ball up to the attacking midfielders much better. Which is no surprised having seen them against Brom when Davis was playing.

Since he's come in the team has been scoring more as a whole and the attack will grab more points. It is a problem guessing WHO will be dominant, I thought it was Lambert but even he isn't.

Hence I've got their two cheapest attackers in each bracket - Puncheon and Lambert.

Hmm, and that's the potential problem. I've believed in him to date but, with their likely exit from the Champs League, I can't help but feel he'll be rotated for a large number of games over the Christmas period. When he does play I think he'll score big, but then I think the same of Suarez and he's likely to play 30-40% more games...

Of the ones your selling, I'd only personally consider selling Tevez for Suarez somehow, but obviously not ahead of the next fixture where he looks sure to start and before Suarez's impending ban.

You keeping Noble? Maybe Noble > Puncheon if that allow Tevez > Suarez.

Cheers Tinkerman. Yes, Noble to Puncheon is on the radar when I've a spare transfer, but it wouldn't give me enough spare cash. It'd need Jussi > Myhill/Fed as well to fund Suarez and only then if Luis doesn't rise by more than £0.1m in the meantime. Hopefully Suarez's potential ban will limit any price rise...

What's your view on Baines now? Keeping for the long-term or closely monitoring?

I'm monitoring him, but then I'm always monitoring all of my players 😉

His attacking threat is enough for me to hold on, especially with the lack of 'elite' alternatives. Enrique is a touted replacement but I'd only do that if he was guaranteed to stay LM and I needed to save the cash, which I don't need right now.

Totally agree that Sess isn't worth transferring in for a big hitter but I'm really tempted to do Michu > Sess.

I have 2FTs and no transfers that I really want to make (http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/6026/event-history/13/).

I got Michu 2 rises ago so I'd only get £0.1m less than his current price so that's not an issue.

I can't decide if I'm contemplating it because I think he's an improvement on Michu (incl. the DGW) or the fact I don't want to let a transfer go to waste is putting me off.

Thought it sounded a familiar musing - your team's very similar to mine (see above)! I had Noble & Maloney rotating so upgrading one of those to Sess was a no brainer. Since you'd only be making a £0.1m loss on the Michu transfer, I'd be inclined to gamble on the basis that the DGW could bring in the difference.

Those FT's really do burn a hole in the pocket!

The first one leaves you really lightweight at the back. Also, for a hit I'm not sure.

The second one looks good. I think Bale will outscore Cazorla personally. Is it a priority for you though?

My other option is Kebe --> Puncheon and then keep the rest for at least another GW. I have been doing quite alright with Kebe on the bench for a couple of GWs but since the the last one I think I must get Bale...

    Okay, new plan.

    Pienaar + Ba > Ramirez + Giroud

Everton have been leaky at the back and when Walcott is back he will be a huge threat.

Is it reasonable to believe Suarez won't get booked by New Year?
Or he will get a tactical booking before an "easy" game, e.g. Southampton at home?

Only about how many goals Suarez scores though. Since no one else can for Pool and they're decent in attack he is pretty much up there. You'd kill for a goal this gameweek.

I'm tempted by Nastasic but is it really time to bring him in when City are away to Wigan (wouldn't put a goal past them at all) at home to Everton (Fellaini, Jelavic, Baines, possibly Mirallas) and then at home to United?
