Tuesday’s matches lived up to expectations, as four sides low on confidence and fraught with stuttering form served up a single goal and limited returns. Here’s the Stock Check on this evening’s events…

On the Up

Christian Benteke
Thrown into the Scout Picks, the formidable Belgian striker delivered a third goal of the season to provide a vital winner for Villa. With Darren Bent kept in the stands, Benteke justified Paul Lambert’s faith in him with another muscular display. Maximum bonus beckons and it’s QPR and Stoke over the next two.

The Villa Defence
While Paul Lambert’s back four have conceded eight goals in their last five, all eight of those conceded came against United and City, meaning that the Villa back four have kept three clean sheets around those two matches. Three away games in the next four is an obstacle to investment, although their progress is clearly worth monitoring. Scout Pick Ciaran Clark has the goal threat to accompany defensive returns but he joined the suspension tightrope with his fourth booking tonight.

Adel Taarabt
There were question marks over the Moroccan’s role when Harry Redknapp took the reins but tonight’s showing indicated that Taarabt will remain a key figure and certainly QPR’s biggest threat and creative influence. While he drew a blank this evening, Fantasy managers will be monitoring his potential as QPR’s schedule improves.

Going Down

Sunderland’s Attack
With six goals in their last three matches, both Stephane Sessegnon and Steven Fletcher have attracted inevitable interest with a double Gameweek looming. However, tonight provided more evidence that we must remain cautious on their potential. Martin O’Neill’s side laboured again, with the bulk of their efforts on goal fired in from range.

Kaspar Gorkss
The Latvian was presumably rested, with Adrian Mariappa drafted into the centre of the Reading back four. Brian McDermott’s decision to omit the senior member of his defence could be significant given that Sean Morrison retained his start. With Chris Gunter also rotated out, the security of starts in the Reading rearguard is again in question.

Julio Cesar
The Brazilian reportedly picked up a groin injury in the first half and was denied clean sheet returns with Robert Green taking over for the second period. He’ll presumably be an early doubt for the meeting with Villa this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Morning chaps,

    I've got 2 free transfers, 1.4m in the bank, and a few options I'm considering - would be interested to hear your views! A few of the options are time sensitive given the pending price rises.... Thanks!

    a) Baines, Michu & Ba -> Wisdom, Walcott & Suarez(c) [4 point hit]
    b) Fellaini, Michu & Ba -> Puncheon, Walcott & Suarez(c) [4 point hit]
    c) Hughes & Taarabt -> Enrique & Sterling
    d) Michu & Baines -> Enrique & Walcott (then Ba -> Suarez in GW16)
    e) Fellaini & Hughes -> Wisdom & Walcott (would mean no Suarez until GW17)

    Jaask, Federici
    Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, Clyne, McCartney
    Bale, Silva, Michu, Fellaini, Taarabt
    RVP, Ba, Fletcher

    Assuming things go a particular way tomorrow (eg Mata plays deep, Aguero and Baines do well, Ba is sh*t, etc) How do these transfers look.

    Davies -> Enrique
    Ba -> Aguero
    Mata -> Puncheon (rotating with Sterling)

      Things will not go as planned tomorrow. Ba will score 3 then you'll have to rethink this. Its best to just wait and watch the games then come up with a plan rather than ponder what ifs.

      Awaiting news on Foster's injury. He may need a second surgery apparently.

      I'm most likely playing Bego till January anyway. Hate to waste a transfer on GKs.

      No one to sell to really if you want rotation unless you're keen on the Saints keeper for 4m. There is nice rotation there till the January WC. I would only do it if you really need the cash

          Gotta say I haven't been so positive about the future of our team since the height of Rafa's reign. Allen & Lucas can form a brilliant partnership for years to come. BR is a legend and needs to be fully backed by the yanks. Sterling, Suso and Wisdom can become world class. Suarez is the best player in England (bring it on all you haters!!! 😀 ) Future looks rosy

    Bego, McCarthy

    Rafael, Cuellar, Hughes, Gorkss, Clyne

    Bale, Silva, Fellaini, Sess, Sterling

    RVP, Ba, Berbs

    Where do I go from here? 2.6 in the bank. No cards from Suarez will probably mean Ba to Suarez. Anything else I'm missing?

    Southampton have conceded 2 in their last 3. Big turnaround from the worst defence in the league. I noticed this coincided with the lad Shaw coming in to the team. Have they tightened up or has it been more a case of poor finishing by swansea, qpr and newcastle?

    My original plan was to get Enrique in for Baines and Suerez for Ba. Now that Baines has risen I can't afford to do it. My plan B is Rafael to Enrique and Ba to Giroud. Thoughts? I figure I'll wait to see if Enrique is still oop tomorrow/Suarez get another card.

      I've just seen you did the same 🙂
