Tuesday’s matches lived up to expectations, as four sides low on confidence and fraught with stuttering form served up a single goal and limited returns. Here’s the Stock Check on this evening’s events…

On the Up

Christian Benteke
Thrown into the Scout Picks, the formidable Belgian striker delivered a third goal of the season to provide a vital winner for Villa. With Darren Bent kept in the stands, Benteke justified Paul Lambert’s faith in him with another muscular display. Maximum bonus beckons and it’s QPR and Stoke over the next two.

The Villa Defence
While Paul Lambert’s back four have conceded eight goals in their last five, all eight of those conceded came against United and City, meaning that the Villa back four have kept three clean sheets around those two matches. Three away games in the next four is an obstacle to investment, although their progress is clearly worth monitoring. Scout Pick Ciaran Clark has the goal threat to accompany defensive returns but he joined the suspension tightrope with his fourth booking tonight.

Adel Taarabt
There were question marks over the Moroccan’s role when Harry Redknapp took the reins but tonight’s showing indicated that Taarabt will remain a key figure and certainly QPR’s biggest threat and creative influence. While he drew a blank this evening, Fantasy managers will be monitoring his potential as QPR’s schedule improves.

Going Down

Sunderland’s Attack
With six goals in their last three matches, both Stephane Sessegnon and Steven Fletcher have attracted inevitable interest with a double Gameweek looming. However, tonight provided more evidence that we must remain cautious on their potential. Martin O’Neill’s side laboured again, with the bulk of their efforts on goal fired in from range.

Kaspar Gorkss
The Latvian was presumably rested, with Adrian Mariappa drafted into the centre of the Reading back four. Brian McDermott’s decision to omit the senior member of his defence could be significant given that Sean Morrison retained his start. With Chris Gunter also rotated out, the security of starts in the Reading rearguard is again in question.

Julio Cesar
The Brazilian reportedly picked up a groin injury in the first half and was denied clean sheet returns with Robert Green taking over for the second period. He’ll presumably be an early doubt for the meeting with Villa this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hmmpph. It's a tough call to ditch him, but he's returned poorly of late, and I can't see many CS for Everton in the next 7 weeks, so I'd be relying on attacking returns. With Pienaar, Fellaini, Mirillas, Jelavic and Naismith around, this could be shared around. That's my logic anyhow. Now watch him get consecutive penos....

The argument goes on and on...so we could spend all night arguing about it, but in my mind you are losing Baines and one OOP midfielder to bring in an unproven (yet) OOP defender and injured player...I'd hold.

I guess that's an option too - would mean no LIV coverage for SOT though. Wisdom is great value considering LIV's fixtures imo, although he does offer next to no attacking threat.

    Lost on last page.

Do Rafa > Enrique once this GW is over or after Utd v Reading? Enrique will surely reach 6,0+ by then. But Utd are bound to tighten up soon and demolish a team soon and they are vsing Reading. Whereas Livo is vsing Southampton, who are in good form and could bring Livo's good run to an end. Also, if Suarez gets yellow, their goal chances diminish.

Say he maintains his spot tomorrow and scores or assists and it is clear to see he will stay in that left forward spot, would you make the move straight away or let Rafa v Reading? Since I've bought Rafa, he's done nothing, partly the reason I feel bad letting go. What would Enrique need to do to sway your opinion? With all Utds defenders back, I do fear of rotation. Rafa played in the dead rubber UCL game and on the weekend, he is going to get rested soon, seeing as he is quiet prone to injury.

    Hey guys,

Do you think swapping out :

    Berbatov and Felliani to
    Suarez and puncheon/Gera
(2 FT and dependant on Suarez YC situation)

    To leave me with:

    Begovic, Foster
    Cuellar, Hughes, Cameron, Wisdom, Gorkks
Silva, Walcott, Bale, Sterling (Punchy / Gera)
    RVP, Tevez, Suarez

I may have a mental breakdown if I can't pull this deal through..

    Currently,

    Mignolet | Begovich

    Gorkss | McAuley | Baines | Mertesacker | Rafael

    Hazard | Nolan | Morission | Bale | Cazorla

    Crouch | Berba | Suarez

In teh next 2-3 gameweeks, I somehow want my team to look somewhat like this,

    Mignolet | Begovich

(Insert Cheap-Nailed on Defender here) | McAuley | Baines | Mertesacker | Rafael

(Insert Soton nailed on-in form mid here) | Sessegnon | Fellaini | Bale | Cazorla

    Fletcher | Berba | Suarez

    Please help.

P.S. Is Rafael --> Enrique a safe bet, or Rafael --> Jevans?

I think so yes, Rodgers doesn't trust Enrique in defence so Wisdom is either RB in 4-3-3 or RCB in a 3-5-2.
I know alot benefited from double STK but I think we missed the boat there Jafa, looking at the ticker they have the worse ratings for clean sheets up until GW22 whereas Liverpool are second and WBA's home games are STO WHM NOR FUL with RDG and QPR away.
Double Stoke defence at the Jan WC for me, Begovic and Marc Wilson (who will be near 4M by then) where the fixtures pick up again.

Problem is: do you go with fixtures or form?

Reading betwixt the lines, you seem in favour of fix. After last year's debacle, I'm trusting form a lot more this year. WHM and STK at home for instance.

Thanks for that info. When is Foster back?

Liverpool do have some defensive form though, and I think with defenders fixtures are more of a guide than attackers.
