A night that saw some familiar names come to the fore, as Michu and Marouane Fellaini restored order for the template midfield, while Gareth Bale maintained his hot streak. Rafa’s Chelsea continue to struggle for a cutting edge, while Robin Van Persie found his to stop the rot after consecutive blanks. Here’s the Stock Check on Wednesday’s matches…

On the Up

Gareth Bale
The Welshman scored for the third consecutive league game, whilst providing the assist for Aaron Lennon’s strike. Despite notching an unfortunate own goal, with bonus points likely, Bale could be heading for his fourth double figure return of the season. All of a sudden, he’s living up to his price tag and discovering the form that made him devastating at times like season. With strong fixtures over Christmas, the prospects look good.

Michu
An eighth goal of the season for the Spaniard who is showing little sign of letting up as a supreme Fantasy asset. While fixtures stiffen for the Swans, Michu’s threat, either up front or behind the striker, looks unshakable.

Wayne Routledge & Pablo Hernandez
While Michu is clearly the weapon of choice amongst Swansea’s assets, this pairing continue to impress to offer alternatives. Hernandez notched his second and third assists of the season, while Routledge, seemingly back in favour having started the last two, notched a brace to take him to four goals for the season.

Marouane Fellaini
Like Michu, the big Belgian is showing no sign of slowing down his scoring. His first-half goal was his seventh of the season – Felliani has now scored or assisted in his last five league outings.

Theo Walcott
A first minute goal announced Walcott’s return to the Gunners lineup and offered indication that he could be the key target with Arsene Wenger’s ranks to cover their forthcoming favourable fixtures. While Santi Cazorla remains an integral link man in the Arsenal midfield, Walcott has the goal threat that could well outscore the Spaniard over a spell that finds the Gunners face four home matches in six Gameweeks.

Robin Van Persie
Back on the scoresheet after just 30 seconds, the Dutchamn justified the Fantasy armband and offered some reassurance to those feeling fidgety after two consecutive blanks. With Rooney faltering and Antoinio Valencia injured and out of form, Van Persie remains the only real viable cover of United’s attacking potential, unless a gamble on Javier Hernandez is considered.

Rickie Lambert
For so long we’ve regarded the Saints’ striker as the most fancied budget forward and tonight he notched his sixth goal of the season to help his cause. The Saints were stalled by Norwich and with a blank in Gameweek 17, Lambert’s owners may well be making exit plans despite tonight’s strike.

The City Defence
A fifth clean sheet in six league outings. Roberto Mancini’s side struggled to dominate the first half but swept the Latics aside in an impressive second half showing. The back four was shuffled by Mancini but Vincent Kompany and, in particular, Matija Nastasić, impressed again. The young Serb looks unshakable right now and, at 5.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, is offering a cut-down route to City’s current superb run of defensive form.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spaniard made his fifth consecutive league start tonight, keeping Gary Cahill on the bench. With David Luiz picking up his fifth booking, he looks set to maintain his run of starts in a side that looks to be set up to earn clean sheets as a priority. Fixtures and the Gameweek 17 blank is an obstacle to investment, however.

Going Down

Carlos Tevez
An unused sub at the DW Stadium tonight, his star has plummeted, having been the top scorer in Gameweek 13. With Mario Balotelli scoring and Edin Dzeko also in the queue for starts, Tevez’s owners will surely be planning an exit with a plethora of more secure options available elsewhere. Sergio Aguero’s owners will not be much happier – the Argentine blanked and was subbed on 68 minutes.

Wayne Rooney
For a few weeks, Rooney was looking set to provide cover of United’s attacking potential but tonight’s blank means that he’s now gone five league starts without a goal, notching two assists in that spell. Such returns fail to justify his price tag and again, he is failing behind Robin Van Persie in the scoring stakes.

Chelsea’s Attacking Assets
Rafa Benitez set the tone for the evening by benching Juan Mata from the start and, perhaps unsurprisingly, saw his side struggle to break down a determined Fulham. Chelsea have kept consecutive clean sheets under Benitez but with no goals scored, owners of Hazard and Mata will be hugely concerned. With a blank in Gameweek 17 looming, big sales of both look guaranteed in the next two Gameweeks.

Leighton Baines
The Everton defence have now gone nine matches without a clean sheet, while Baines has gone five without a goal or assist. More significantly, there are reports post-match that Baines suffered a hamstring injury in tonight’s game, making him an early doubt for the trip to City at the weekend. That could well be the final straw for his frustrated owners.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

They classified him as one based on the game or they think he is one?

I didn't watch the game but he often plays right attacking midfield, but really as a support striker. Think walcott, but more of a partnership with the main striker and more central.

      No way.

He's been dreadful this year and his groin injury hasn't ruined him.

Have you noticed how few shots he has and the ones he does have are blocked? He doesn't have the explosiveness anymore and is a liability in a midfield 3. Allen has looked poor alongside him as he's doing the running for two people...Stevie G is swanning around knowing he has to conserve energy for the full 90mins, but even that's not enough and he's offering little bar the odd (and I mean odd) incisive pass.

    HELP!!!!

My plans are being confused by a Baines injury and the Tevez dilemma...

    Begovic/Tremmel
    Baines Saylor Rafael Clyne Huth
    Michu Morrison Fellaini Puncheon AJohnson
    RVP Tevez Suarez

    2 FT's, .7 spare

Who goes first, Saylor is out longer but Baines frees up more money
    AJ is useless!
    Tevez is annoying

    Need Arsenal attack/defence
    Enrique
    West Brom defence
Nelsen for QPR seems good value at 4 mil

Original plan was Michu and Saylor to Nelsen and Walcott, but think Michu has to stay now for ars NOR?
I cant dump AJ before the DGW surely?
    Puncheon is great value

Shall I dump Morrison to Walcott?
Or just dump Tevez for Giroud and Saylor for Enrique?

Looking juicy for GW15 - got subs / starting XI correct?

Foster (although dont think he's supposed to be back yet, so probs Begovic)
    Jose Enrique / Nelsen / O'Brien
    Walcott / Bale / Michu / Sterling
    Suarez(C) / RVP / Fletcher

subs- Sessegnon / Rafael / Clyne

Definitely start Rafael over O'Brien. Otherwise, yeah all ok.

Yeah that is prob my main dilemma, thought process was O'Brien at home in an organised West Ham side against Rafa Chelsea who are struggling offensively atm, but at same time it's kind of like 'surely they have to get a goal sooner or later' and it is Chelsea after all even despite their poor run. O'Brien also has attacking threat of his own (although I dunno how much of this is flukey I haven't watched his performances).

Rafael is away at Reading and United have hardly been defensively resolute and although he does have attacking potential it is far from nailed on he's going to chip in with an assist/goal

The thing is, O'Brien isn't nailed on either now that Demel is back. If I'm in any doubt about defender choices, worth checking out the clean sheet odds.

          West Ham - 4/1
          Man Utd - 11/10

i.e. not even close according to the bookies. Add to that Rafael offers more attacking threat and I think you have your answer.

          Ps, you're welcome 🙂

I know Michu scored again today, but his fixtures aren't great and he's still only one yellow away from a ban. I've had him since GW2, but I'm now thinking a switch to Walcott could be worthwhile, especially as it means I can get both Walcott & Enrique this week, and save some cash towards a Ba -> Suarez upgrade in GW17....

    My options:

    a) Baines & Taarabt -> Wisdom/Nastasic/Sagna & Walcott (leaves 1.1/0/1/0.2 in the bank)
    b) Baines & Michu -> Enrique & Walcott (leaves 1.1 in the bank)

If I go the cheap route and do a) with Nastasic/Sagna, the only way to get Suarez by GW17 would be something like:

GW16: Ba -> Le Fondre (Reading penalty taker with a DGW)
    GW17: Fletcher -> Suarez

A plausible strategy given the strength of my 5 mids? (Bale, Silva, Fellaini, Walcott, Michu). Would then bench Le Fondre every week up to the Jan wildcard.

i wouldnt get rid of Michu thats for sure - although walcott would be nice michu is a striker and even if he gets his ban i would say ride it out - so i would say (a)

oops - nastasic -seems to be nailed on - sagna has jenkinson issue and im not convinced about wisdom yet. the one thing i would say about him though is cos its a short week he might play lescott against his old club.

Hey Scout Addicts!! I have 2FT AND £0.7 under the mattress...

    Begovic

    Baines(inj), McCauley, Clyne

    Sterling, Fellaini, Cazorla. Mata, Michu

    RVP, Ba

    Subs: Jaasi, Gorkks, Reid, Ruiz(inj)

    I'm thinking Baines>Enrique and Ba>Suarez!!

What do you think? Can I use my 2FT to do something better? Should I also take a hit?
    Advice much appreciated

I'd keep Ba this week - Wigan at home is a decent fixture.

What about Mata & Baines -> Bale & Enrique, then plan to do Ba -> Suarez in GW17.

However. I need to get Suarez now!

            If I do Baines>Enrique & Ba>Suarez bright now, I'll have £0.1 left.

Will I be able to afford him in £ weeks time?....

So Gorkss out seeing as he's possibly out of favour? Have 5.7 to spend on a replacement - Natasic? Was hoping to keep for the double but as I have 4 not playing in GW 17 can't afford to have any non-starters in my team.

    OK, I'm doing either

    A) Fletcher and Baines -----------> Suarez and 4mil defender for a hit

    or

    B) Hazard ------------------> Gerrard (likely captain against SOU) for free

I know it isn't popular, but I'm leaning towards B!

I'm led to believe that Baines had a couple of niggles before the game anyway and there isn't that much new damage to his hammy. Expect him to miss the City away game but be back the week after, after a nice little rest.

I've read on here than people think the Liverpool combo of Enrique, Sterling and Suarez is a bad idea but in my opinion it makes sense. They've got wonderful fixtures coming up until the January wildcard.

Enrique is a defender first and should be treated as that when considering him and as of late they've been keeping clean sheets plus he could have scored a few tonight as well. Lots of substitutes around 5.8m if his form dips or he gets dropped as well.

Sterling is cheap enough to be benched so when they have a tough fixture you don't have to play all 3 and is great value for 5.7m still.

Suarez is the EPL's top scorer currently and looks threatening in every game he plays in. If a better option presents itself you can easily downgrade him.
