A night that saw some familiar names come to the fore, as Michu and Marouane Fellaini restored order for the template midfield, while Gareth Bale maintained his hot streak. Rafa’s Chelsea continue to struggle for a cutting edge, while Robin Van Persie found his to stop the rot after consecutive blanks. Here’s the Stock Check on Wednesday’s matches…

On the Up

Gareth Bale
The Welshman scored for the third consecutive league game, whilst providing the assist for Aaron Lennon’s strike. Despite notching an unfortunate own goal, with bonus points likely, Bale could be heading for his fourth double figure return of the season. All of a sudden, he’s living up to his price tag and discovering the form that made him devastating at times like season. With strong fixtures over Christmas, the prospects look good.

Michu
An eighth goal of the season for the Spaniard who is showing little sign of letting up as a supreme Fantasy asset. While fixtures stiffen for the Swans, Michu’s threat, either up front or behind the striker, looks unshakable.

Wayne Routledge & Pablo Hernandez
While Michu is clearly the weapon of choice amongst Swansea’s assets, this pairing continue to impress to offer alternatives. Hernandez notched his second and third assists of the season, while Routledge, seemingly back in favour having started the last two, notched a brace to take him to four goals for the season.

Marouane Fellaini
Like Michu, the big Belgian is showing no sign of slowing down his scoring. His first-half goal was his seventh of the season – Felliani has now scored or assisted in his last five league outings.

Theo Walcott
A first minute goal announced Walcott’s return to the Gunners lineup and offered indication that he could be the key target with Arsene Wenger’s ranks to cover their forthcoming favourable fixtures. While Santi Cazorla remains an integral link man in the Arsenal midfield, Walcott has the goal threat that could well outscore the Spaniard over a spell that finds the Gunners face four home matches in six Gameweeks.

Robin Van Persie
Back on the scoresheet after just 30 seconds, the Dutchamn justified the Fantasy armband and offered some reassurance to those feeling fidgety after two consecutive blanks. With Rooney faltering and Antoinio Valencia injured and out of form, Van Persie remains the only real viable cover of United’s attacking potential, unless a gamble on Javier Hernandez is considered.

Rickie Lambert
For so long we’ve regarded the Saints’ striker as the most fancied budget forward and tonight he notched his sixth goal of the season to help his cause. The Saints were stalled by Norwich and with a blank in Gameweek 17, Lambert’s owners may well be making exit plans despite tonight’s strike.

The City Defence
A fifth clean sheet in six league outings. Roberto Mancini’s side struggled to dominate the first half but swept the Latics aside in an impressive second half showing. The back four was shuffled by Mancini but Vincent Kompany and, in particular, Matija Nastasić, impressed again. The young Serb looks unshakable right now and, at 5.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, is offering a cut-down route to City’s current superb run of defensive form.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spaniard made his fifth consecutive league start tonight, keeping Gary Cahill on the bench. With David Luiz picking up his fifth booking, he looks set to maintain his run of starts in a side that looks to be set up to earn clean sheets as a priority. Fixtures and the Gameweek 17 blank is an obstacle to investment, however.

Going Down

Carlos Tevez
An unused sub at the DW Stadium tonight, his star has plummeted, having been the top scorer in Gameweek 13. With Mario Balotelli scoring and Edin Dzeko also in the queue for starts, Tevez’s owners will surely be planning an exit with a plethora of more secure options available elsewhere. Sergio Aguero’s owners will not be much happier – the Argentine blanked and was subbed on 68 minutes.

Wayne Rooney
For a few weeks, Rooney was looking set to provide cover of United’s attacking potential but tonight’s blank means that he’s now gone five league starts without a goal, notching two assists in that spell. Such returns fail to justify his price tag and again, he is failing behind Robin Van Persie in the scoring stakes.

Chelsea’s Attacking Assets
Rafa Benitez set the tone for the evening by benching Juan Mata from the start and, perhaps unsurprisingly, saw his side struggle to break down a determined Fulham. Chelsea have kept consecutive clean sheets under Benitez but with no goals scored, owners of Hazard and Mata will be hugely concerned. With a blank in Gameweek 17 looming, big sales of both look guaranteed in the next two Gameweeks.

Leighton Baines
The Everton defence have now gone nine matches without a clean sheet, while Baines has gone five without a goal or assist. More significantly, there are reports post-match that Baines suffered a hamstring injury in tonight’s game, making him an early doubt for the trip to City at the weekend. That could well be the final straw for his frustrated owners.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I thought the same way this GW. Bought Tevez thinking he would start and run wild. Got away with giving him the armband . Had RVP (vc) so it all worked out. Thinking about keeping Tevez for this week. Surely he will start. Pienaar is my baggage at this point.

    @SantiagoUnreal

He was the most rested Citeh forward.
Aguero had played a lot of minutes in recent games.
    Dzeko was ineffectual.

I was assuming it would be Tevez and Balo starting, so got half of it right...

    My squad is:

    Begovic / Foster
    Garrido / Cameron / Wisdom / Baines / Cuellar
    Fellaini / Maloney / Bale / Cazorla / Michu
    Lambert / Berbatov / RVP

I have a free transfer and £2.1 spare.

This week I think I'm gunna do RVP & Maloney -> Suarez & Silva

then in GW 17: Lambert & Cazorla -> Nolan & Giroud

Do those look like good transfers or should I sort my defence out? I'm assuming that Wisdom and Foster are gunna return to their teams' starting XI soon and I'm hoping Baines isn't gunna be out for more than 2 weeks.

        GW15: Baines & Michu -> Enrique & Walcott
        GW16: Ba -> Le Fondre (DGW! 🙂 )

Ha, there is some method 😀 It's still pretty mad. Losing Michu is a bit tough, even with his fixtures.

Haha. Yeah I know. All this to get bloomin Suarez in! If I went that way, I'd just bench Le Fondre every week until I wildcard after GW21 (plus Le Fondre actually has 2 decent fixtures in 18 and 19!) 🙂

I'm also tempted to just not get Suarez and do something like:

            GW16: Ba -> Berbatov
            GW17: Fletcher -> Tevez/Giroud/Defoe

Evening lads. I beg you to not even bother looking at my rank.

A few questions which would probably/hopefully really help me out........

Do you think Jenkinson starts this weekend with the Ch League next week, with Wenger maybe saving Sagna for it???

Is anyone TRIPLING up on Arsenal for their fixtures here now???

Lastly..........Wisdom? Is he back this weekend???

    Thanks!!!!

Hi Stup. I doubt Jenkinson will get any more league games while Sagna is fit.

Tripling is a bit of an overkill. I think one of Walcott / Santi / Giroud would be enough.

I heard Wisdom didn't pass his late fitness test so he should be back this weekend.

        Alright mate? Cheers!

Just have Suarez for Lfc and Arse coverage right now and the Arsenal fixtures look incredible, Lfc have 3 of 4 at home with W Ham away the 4th. Seems so tempting, yet, it is Arse and Liv we are talking about.

Right now im thinking Baines, Pienaar(YES I STILL HAVE HIM!), and Maloney for something like Wisdom/Cuellar/Bassong, Walcott and one of Puncheon/Anderson/Sterling.

        What you think Pep

In a fit of anticipation this morning, I did...

Baines, Mata, Nolan for Nastasic, Walcott and Bale... (-4)

I have made the worst possible decisions with Bale this season and it has cost me badly... listen to this sob story...

Had him from the start with 2, 2, 1... then stupidly took him out for 11, 8, 16 hauls.. then got him back in for 3, 0, 10 (what's that, an actual return from Bale when he's been in my team, no?!), 2, 2... then took him out again in my WC, which was the epitome of retardation for what has been 7, 9, 7+BPs... Boo Hoo... Sob Sob...

Needless to say, I have learned my lesson... he is in my team come hell or high water... at least until theJan WC... 😉

Yeah, I'm very excited to finally have Walcott in my team...

I apologise to all Bale owners though, since he will thus stop scoring from this point on... 🙁

Oh, that's not good. Light a candle or something and get rid of that bad mojo.

May jump from Caz to Walcott next week myself.

Hi Zep. I have just done Eden >> Bale as well. I think I have to stick him now until he gets injured. He is the type of player that you HAVE to be patient with. Don't look at the fixtures or his form. Just hold.

That said, your transfers look cracking. I think it will pay off. I am reluctant to get Baines out for a hit myself so I will hold for now.

        Cheers, Pepin...

The injury just pushed me over the line... although I reckon he will probably be fine to play..

The benefit of having Walcott/Bale for their good runs, outweighed the advantages of an eventual Baines haul for me...

Alreet lads. People still seem to be getting rid of berba. Am I missing something? I've always planned on getting him in for this week. Really nice fixtures for a while now.

I took him out for Fletcher for QPR nor DGW. Remains to be seen if it's a good decision.

Berbatov played really far back against Stoke and Chelsea, mostly because Ruiz was out. If Ruiz is back this weekend, that bodes well for my beloved countryman.

Took out for Fletcher as well. Berba is dropping in price and Fletcher is going up so after the DGW they will be on par pretty much and you can swap them back out. Both have their pros and cons and its a good yet low risk choice to make if you are trying to make up points on a league.

    This is my suqad

    Begovic (Vorm)

    Rafael Cuellar Baines Demel Clyne

    Fellaini Michu Cazorla Sterling Schnerdeilin

    RVP Tevez Giroud

0 in the bank but 2 FT's... What would you do to this squad with 2 FT's?

Thinking of selling Baines and either Tevez/Giroud to bring in Suarez and cheaper defender. Any other good options I should consider?

    Appreciate all the help

If money is no issue who would you replace Mata with? (Not Walcott since I have Giroud or Bale for that matter cause one of him is enough for my team)

Almost had the perfect defence this week if I hadn't benched Nelsen for Clyne.

    Bego
    Clyne Cuellar Raf Nelsen Gorkss
    Mata Santi Bale Fell Sterling
    Ba RVP Fletcher

Just brought Mata last GW only to have him benched so may as well keep for this weekend when he will start. Thinking of dropping him for Michu after that with Enrique coming in for either Neslen, Gorkss or Clyne. Thoughts?

Also tinkering with the idea of swapping Caz for Theo down the line.

Best defender for 5.6m or less to go with this lot? Cuellar, Hughes, McCartney, Clyne, XXX

    a) Nastasic
    b) Gibbs
    c) Sagna

Are these transfers worth an 8pt hit?

Baines, Hazard, Jelavic > Enrique, Walcott, Suarez.

    Hear me out...

Was already planning a (-4) for Cuellar and Suarez in for Baines and Jelly. Really want to ditch Hazard also, as he's dropping in price, but is it worth the extra (-4)? Im thinking long term but (-8) never looks good on paper.

Demel CHE (H) or Shawcross WBA (A) or Nelsen AVL (H) for the weekend?

Considering I have Begovic as my keeper.
