An action-packed first-half produced seven goals but United’s decision to shut up shop after the break means the net failed to bulge in the second 45. Reading’s cut-price assets make a persuasive case ahead of the double Gameweek, while Wayne Rooney bags a brace as the visitors move three points clear of City at the top:

On the Up

Wayne Rooney
Amongst the goals for the first time since Gameweek 8, Rooney produced his third double figure return in nine starts in this evening’s incredible match at the Madejski. Clearly, he’s still head of Robin Van Persie as United’s first-choice spot-kick taker and priced 2.0 less than the Dutchman, looks a real differential with an ownership of less than 7%.

Jonny Evans
The Irishman earned an assist for United’s converted spot-kick and maintained his recent steady form. Evans has now produced a goal, an assist, a clean sheet and three bonus points in the last three (an average of seven points per game), though with Nemanja Vidic possible returning in the midweek Champions League match with Cluj, would-be investors will be wary.

Adam Le Fondre
While Pavel Pogrebnyak continues to remain a peripheral figure for Brian McDermott’s side, Le Fondre’s eye for goal is clearly crucial to Reading’s attacking forays. His header from a Nicky Shorey corner took the score to 2-2 against United and was his third strike in four games – at 4.8, he served a timely reminder of his cut-price potential ahead of double Gameweek 16.

Nicky Shorey
He’s created chances aplenty for Reading over the last few matches and his corner kick duties highlighted the left-back’s cut-price appeal. A pair of assists against United will earn the 4.1 priced defender plenty new owners over the next few days ahead of the Royals’ double.

Hal Robson-Kanu
The winger earned a fourth consecutive start on the Royals’ right flank and shifted onto Fantasy radars by firing home the opener against United. With an assist also to his name over the last four, Robson-Kanu certainly looks likely to keep his place ahead of next week’s trips to Southampton and Sunderland.

Going Down

Rafael
Tormented on the flank by Jobi McAnuff, he picked up a booking and seemed unable to cope with the Royals winger. Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to sub him off after just 30 minutes will be a real worry for the Brazilian’s owners.

United Defence
Conceding for the first time in a match once again, Sir Alex Ferguson’s backline continued their dire defensive form. The midweek clean sheet against West Ham seems almost an anomaly – United have now shipped 12 goals on the road, just one less than Reading and, as Evans showed today, their defenders are relying on attacking returns to justify any sort of investment.

Ha, this is funny because I was asking earlier if Sterling > Michu and Gorkss > Ronnie Stam was worth it. I was under the impression Stam was the only 3.8m defender in the game. I actually would have been more assured with Mariappa. It was an absurd idea though as I would have been left with 0.0m in the bank and no room for updates anywhere.

REPOST from bottom of last page....

So, Michu -> Walcott was a horror show this week, but I feel I dodged a bullet in not getting Suarez. That said, I think I still want him for GW17, so my options appear to be the below - what's the best?

    a) Bale -> Michu this week. Leaves me 0.1m short for Fletcher -> Suarez in GW17, but I’d expect Suarez to drop at least 0.1m by then given his ban.

    b) Ba -> Le Fondre (DGW) this week. Leaves me with more than enough to do Fletcher -> Suarez in GW17.

    Federici, (Jaask)
    Enrique, Cuellar, Hughes, (Clyne), (McCartney)
    Silva, Fellaini, Walcott, Taarabt, (Bale)
    RVP, Ba, Fletcher
    Bank 1.2m, 1 freebie

I am going to say it...I told you so! 😀 I would keep Bale, at least until we get some more news. He won't drop right away.

As I said before, if you are stuck with LeFondre, it will take 2 transfers to get him back out...

I did A before the price rise. Bale's'selling price was 9.6 for me and i expect Michu to rise and Bale's'to drop from 9.9. So i calculated that i might only need 0.0-0.1 to get Bale back in couple of weeks time. Its a waste of tranny, but i have 3 players out this week so Michu vs NOR doesnt look like a bad idea.

It's still hard to comprehend just how consistent Fellaini is at scoring goals and doing what he's doing right now. Phil Neville (teammate) even said on MOTD that Fellaini still thinks of himself as a defensive midfielder. But all of a sudden he's like a world class attacking midfielder who terrifies defences and has so many chances every game just by standing inside the box. I wonder will it last...while he's looking this good it's hard to doubt him. Is he on for a 20 goal season at this rate?

His goals are just not due to positioning, it as a lot to do with instinct too. No manager would think of playing him deeper unless the team could benefit more than the current situation. Only problem with him will be agility with the ball and developing dribbling skills with years passing on. He's shown enough already.

Yeah I agree. I think he realises the importance of his goals to the side more and more. I mean he's winning/drawing them games with his strikes. They're not just consolation goals. So you know there is an extra impetus there...he's clearly upping his game attacking wise.

Interesting question. Nolan is the type of player that has the "flair for goal" as we say here in Portugal. He was still scoring for NEW playing deeper. He can make the most out of an unexpected crossed ball or lost ball in the box. Still, comparing him to the type of returns that big hitters trio can make by their own with respective teams is unfair almost. I prefer to have 2 big hitters and 2 mid priced options for the midfield. When in doubt, the FORM factor comes in. Haven't answered directly, hope it makes sense to you.

One goal a game is just not enough for that money. Uniteds points are being spread around from game to game which takes takes his value down IMO.
Get Rooney and save the £. He won't score every week but neither will RVP it seems!

Though the point still stands. He won't score every game and at 13.7 (buying price now) you want to be getting more from him than an 8mil or less striker is offering.

Well yes...but the thing about RVP is he is so much more reliable than any other guys I suppose. And his form never seems to drastically dip. You can be sure another goal is just around the corner. And most importantly I feel...he gives you the best Man Utd coverage...well along with Rooney. A team that will score probably the most goals in the league. So you want some coverage of those goals!

Though I love RVP and the warm security he offers me, I am now leaning towards Rooney.

Over the season I don't think he will be too far behind in the points.. combined with a move like Sterling to Michu with the extra funds I think it's more than worth it!

Leaves me with 3mil in the bank and at quite possibly two players sold who ill want back at some point

As a side note, I also own Mata who I'm afraid must go. Superb player but just not worth having under Rafas leadership. So I guess Mata>Bale is the obvious move after the Sunderland game

I don't know really...I'm pretty sure apart from the benching/resting bullsh*t Mata is pretty unaffected by the leadership thing. He generally just always plays brilliantly. Because basically he is amazing.

Ehh...Cazorla was the biggest threat for Arsenal...didn't you see the stats? And personally I don't ever think he plays shit when I watch him. Why is it creepy? I have an obsession with Spanish midfielders it's true...but we all have our favourite kind of players! Watching Mata is a joy to me

Didn't I see the stats? Lol, no. I watched the game.
Cazorla has been poor for weeks now, he's fatigued and I'm saying this as a fan of him and Arsenal. The sooner he drops out for Rosicky for a game or 2 the better.
It's creepy because it's over the top, at first I thought it was a joke but you are actually serious. I can picture your room, candles lit with pictures of Cazorla and Mata covering the walls, and the fact you just referred to it as an 'obsession' is well...creepy.

Haha, fair enough. But really it's just I get a thrill out of watching these dudes play. I'm not watching as a fan of Arsenal and your performances have been poor but the way I see it...Cazorla has been the shining light most weeks for you. Maybe he needs a rest but no-one is going to really replace what he does for the team imo.

Couldn't agree more about how great a player Mata is. But I'm afraid it matters a lot that Rafa is now his manager. Not even taking into account he'll be rested more frequently I just think Chelsea are playing less attacking football, creating less chances and just generally look in the doldrums.

Terrible decision to bring the fat Spanish waiter out of retirement

I agree, what a shambles Chelsea are at the minute. But I'm not so sure this whole benching Mata every second week malarky will continue. Especially if they are knocked out of the Champions league. If they want to maintain their top 4 position Mata needs to be playing and playing like he did today. He proved why he is the most indispensable today. I mean 3 games of Rafa and one goal = by Mata. It's blatantly clear where the threat comes from. And he even gets Torres playing better.

Yeah it's a b*tch this Rafatation...but I'd like to monitor it before coming to any conclusions. Especially as I got Mata so cheap.

I'm sitting Suarez on the bench ( and kind of happy he 'chose' this game to miss) but Bale is out until he's back from injury.

I don't own Michu though so it was an easy decision to bring him in for his home game versus Norwich

        Fair call with Michu.
My other mids are Fellaini, Michu and Silva so there's no one really I want in. Not sold on Arsenal and Walcott yet.
Besides when Bale is back I would want him in my team again anyway. I remember a similar scenario last season when a few of us sat Valencia through his injury, first game back was about 17 pts.
