The Gameweek is brought to a close by one of the most memorable Fantasy hauls of this or any season, as Santi Cazorla orchestrates a mauling of Reading in front of their own fans. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events at the Madjeski…

On the Up

Santi Cazorla
An incredible display by the Spaniard who, perhaps for one night only, turned his superb performance statistics into staggering returns. Our members will know all too well just how impressive Cazorla has been in terms of numbers and tonight he delivered on that promise with a midfield hat-trick haul that has surely cemented his place amongst the true heavy-hitters. Reading were woeful but Carzola punished them without mercy.

Theo Walcott
The night could have belonged to winger turned striker but, in the end, Walcott played second fiddle to the sparkling Santi. Regardless, Walcott’s move to the central striker role gave Arsenal menace up front and Theo came out with a goal to his name and facing the prospect of leading the line at Wigan at the weekend. There’s no way Cazorla owners will be making the switch just now but could their be a case for finding room for both of Wenger’s midfield assets in the short-term? We need to see this new look Arsenal against opposition less obliging than Brian McDermott’s side.

Kieran Gibbs
Arsenal conceded again but, with superior possession in matches, will inevitably keep clean sheets over the second half the season and Gibbs, as demonstrated tonight, can supplement this potential with attacking returns. More expensive that Bacary Sagna on the right, but perhaps more secure given that Thomas Vermaelen would seem set to remain at centre-back, Gibbs will earn new suitors off the back of tonight’s returns.

Lukas Podolksi
Quietly and efficiently, the German has shifted onto five goals and five assists for the season after tonight’s showing. Whilst the attention and investment will go the way of Arsenal’s midfield talent, Podolski deserves some praise for having seemingly adapted well to the Premier League stage and a role primarily out on the Gunners flank.

Going Down

Olivier Giroud
Relegated to the bench tonight, it seems unlikely that he’ll earn an immediate recall at Wigan and could now spend some time as a spectator whilst Arsenal drag themselves back into form and top four contention. Giroud has stalled again as a Premier League prospect and Fantasy asset in a less than convincing opening to his career in England.

The Reading Defence
It’s hard to sum up just how porous the Royals’ back four appeared at times. They have now conceded 13 goals in the last four league outings and it’s almost as easy as backing their opponents for three or four strikes every week. Reading go to City at the weekend, with Fantasy managers now desperately attempting to crowbar a secure City asset into their squad; easier said than done.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Played the patience game with him from G/W 1. Finally ditched him just b4 his big haul. In all my FF games.

My thoughts are he will frustrate you and he has not turned a new corner under the new manager,

So with Fellaini dropping in a couple of hours, I'm considering 3 options: Mata, Silva and Cazorla

Mata: In great form with 2 consecutive goals in the league as well as goals in the CWC and the CL. Has good fixtures as well and the only thing stopping me is RAFAtation.

Silva: Not been in best of form, had an assist this week but drew 5 blanks in a row before that. He does have good fixtures though including woeful Reading at the Emirates this week and looks very nailed on compared to Citeh strikers.

Cazorla: Not been on my radar at all but of course he goes out and scores a hatrick. He also had an assist last week as well as another this week. He may have a blank GW on Boxing Day though and Walcott could score as much for considerably less. The burnin question is if this hat trick was a sign if things to come or just a one off against a terrible defence.

With all that said, Mata, Silva or Cazorla?

You could jump on the Cazorla price jump, play him in the next two with his confidence sky-high and re-assess. I have Mata but think Chelsea will struggle to beak Villa down at the weekend and Norwich away is tricky. Silva gives you City coverage at the weekend but is the kind of player that could run the game, City win 3 or 4-0 and he comes away with 3 points.

This tube strike is worrying me. I was all set to ride out the Fellaini ban by playing Puncheon for all three and use the transfer elsewhere.

However, if the strike goes ahead I'll be without both Cazorla and Fellaini that week, along with Per in defence. Difficult to wait and decide too with Fellaini going down and Yaya going up.

I've just seen the average position maps for the Arsenal team. They had a perfect 4231 formation, it just goes to show the difference Walcott makes being up top. Giroud always dropped too deep but Walcott stays up front providing better team structure..

Arguably a big factor in the success of the team as a whole tonight. He has pulled the opposition defence out of position from the wing, even more so up top.

I think Walcott, Michu, Cazorla and Yaya are the best midfield prospects for Christmas.

What is the Paddy Power Cup?
The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager highest in the overall standing will progress.

Ouch :(.... That's brutal. All I needed was a point from Shorey tonight to progress!

Still don't know who to pick from:

    Walker,Nastasic,Zabaleta and Gibbs...

Walker stats looks tasty in Mark's Full Backs Assist Potential table...Nasta and Zaba have more chance for cleanie then him but there is always a rotation risk in MC...Gibbs is also a good option but its risky to get him now because of boxing day blank gwk...

Any good advice??I have 1hr to make a decision...

    Make this attack worth it?

hmm I know...maybe just scrap the whole City striker thing altogether - just got a gut feeling about Tevez and I know he's gonna go big! 🙁

It is one Mata/Silva/Cazorla short of being very good imo..

I don't know. City could play Dzeko/Balo up top against Reading and still win 5-0.

As I said, i'll take my chances, I think he will play. They are trailing by 6 points so they can't really any chances! No europe either to worry about, not sure why they would rotate at the start of a busy run..

Good evening all, I am curious as to how the Fellaini ban will be handled from a cards accumulated perspective.

My lack of understanding falls in the amount of cards he will be on upon return.

My guess would be a 3 match ban = 1 RC = 2 YC so he will be on 7YC upon return.

    How far off am I?

No it won't affect his yellow tally. He'll return on 4 yellows, however then the limit will be 10 for a ban I believe

Nah, Don't think you've got it. The yellow card system is only for yellow cards. Red cards get an immediate 1 or 3 match ban. They don't add to the number of yellows. If you get a second 5 yellows it's two matches. If you get a second red you have an extra game added to the ban. Something like that.

ahhhh, so 2YC in a single match = 1 RC, however a straight Red card is just a ticket on the bansville express and does not impact YC system

        Thanks

Went Fellaini to Silva. Think it will prove to be the fixture with the most potential for goals over Mata and Bale this weekend.

Silva looked great against Newcastle and feel he will be heavily involved in all attacking movements. He's hitting form.

only if you can live with your -4 resulting in a possible Nastasic bench role, not sayin' I feel it's gonna happen just sayin' it should be considered
