The Gameweek is brought to a close by one of the most memorable Fantasy hauls of this or any season, as Santi Cazorla orchestrates a mauling of Reading in front of their own fans. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events at the Madjeski…

On the Up

Santi Cazorla
An incredible display by the Spaniard who, perhaps for one night only, turned his superb performance statistics into staggering returns. Our members will know all too well just how impressive Cazorla has been in terms of numbers and tonight he delivered on that promise with a midfield hat-trick haul that has surely cemented his place amongst the true heavy-hitters. Reading were woeful but Carzola punished them without mercy.

Theo Walcott
The night could have belonged to winger turned striker but, in the end, Walcott played second fiddle to the sparkling Santi. Regardless, Walcott’s move to the central striker role gave Arsenal menace up front and Theo came out with a goal to his name and facing the prospect of leading the line at Wigan at the weekend. There’s no way Cazorla owners will be making the switch just now but could their be a case for finding room for both of Wenger’s midfield assets in the short-term? We need to see this new look Arsenal against opposition less obliging than Brian McDermott’s side.

Kieran Gibbs
Arsenal conceded again but, with superior possession in matches, will inevitably keep clean sheets over the second half the season and Gibbs, as demonstrated tonight, can supplement this potential with attacking returns. More expensive that Bacary Sagna on the right, but perhaps more secure given that Thomas Vermaelen would seem set to remain at centre-back, Gibbs will earn new suitors off the back of tonight’s returns.

Lukas Podolksi
Quietly and efficiently, the German has shifted onto five goals and five assists for the season after tonight’s showing. Whilst the attention and investment will go the way of Arsenal’s midfield talent, Podolski deserves some praise for having seemingly adapted well to the Premier League stage and a role primarily out on the Gunners flank.

Going Down

Olivier Giroud
Relegated to the bench tonight, it seems unlikely that he’ll earn an immediate recall at Wigan and could now spend some time as a spectator whilst Arsenal drag themselves back into form and top four contention. Giroud has stalled again as a Premier League prospect and Fantasy asset in a less than convincing opening to his career in England.

The Reading Defence
It’s hard to sum up just how porous the Royals’ back four appeared at times. They have now conceded 13 goals in the last four league outings and it’s almost as easy as backing their opponents for three or four strikes every week. Reading go to City at the weekend, with Fantasy managers now desperately attempting to crowbar a secure City asset into their squad; easier said than done.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm really struggling to get in the top 100k. Every time i'm happy with my team and take no hits, red arrow approaches. This time it lasted till Arsenal game, Santi made it red again.

For his price he is a bad option. Goes on very long stretches without any offensive output and its hard to predict when he'll score his 4-5 goals per season. Only way you really get value from him is by holding him for a very long time which isn't what people are doing. They are getting him for a 3 game punt which will surely end in disaster.(IMO)

Everyone here seems to be waiting on Bale, me included. I think he'll blank against Stoke and will need to regain form since he's returning from injury and fixtures are very close together. So, I might wait for Jan WC to get him, unless he explodes and his price sky rises.

Reasonably happy with this. Considered walcott but I want a 90minute man til jan wildcard.

if nasri doesn't start, milner is likely to play a more defensive role pushing yaya up, and considering yaya was heavily involved in the attacks in their last few games, I'm not sure about your theory.

Yaya is a superstar, but he is not a FPL idol, except you are considering him as temporary replacement of Fellaini.

        I agree completely.

The key to my thoughts of potentialy captaining him has nothing to do with fpl superstardom, more to do with reading at home and no other city players.

I just saw on the guardian website they have an article asking for people to debate over what is the worst football match they have ever watched. And this was sparked by the West Brom vs West Ham game. I've got to say I agree, surely one of the most boring games in living memory. I fell asleep after 20 minutes and wish I'd never woken up for the 2nd half! 🙂

Arsenal @ Stoke this season was pretty bad.

The only exciting part of that tie was Giroud's attempted Ibra-strike from just past the halfway line.

Yeah...that was ambitious...I watched that as a Giroud owner. Got to say I was disappointed he wasn't taking shots inside the box!

Giroud looks like he might be the forgotten man if Walcott takes over in his place. Uh oh...

I agree; but I don't think Theo will nail down that spot. Arsene won't bench his new striker just to keep Theo happy. Theo will still get most of his starts at RW going forward.

I love Giroud; I think he's a good CF and is link-up play is extremely underrated.

          But if Demba comes... 🙂

Yeah I like Giroud too but it has been tough for him to settle in. It was hard to ignore how well everyone played today...such pace and dangerous link up play. It's good that Arsenal have that outlet. I would not be surprised if Wenger stuck with Walcott to keep this momentum going. Boy, do you need a lift and this was a major confidence-booster. Best not to mess with a good thing, no?

Well done for avoiding Yaya...he's getting attention for recent exploits...but it's hard to say he's really the best long term option.

I'd give this one some more thought Doc X...not a bad set of moves but not keen on hits for defenders and Silva can be disappointing in FPL if things don't go perfectly.

This might sound like twisted logic, but going into a GW with a team you're not entirely confident with feels better than one your 100% confident with.

That way, if they don't score big, not such a great disappointment. Other way round and you're gutted, especially if taking hits.....sense?

Keeping for 1 week. Even if he drops 0.3 in real value I'd only lose 0.1 in selling value so won't loose to much if I wait a week to upgrade to Mata/Bale and I avoid taking hits or being forced to bring if players like Yaya.
