Another packed Friday comes to an end as we brace ourselves for the frantic festive schedule. Once more, we roll out a trio of overlooked alternatives for your consideration ahead of Saturday morning’s deadline…

Ashley Young

It’s something of an understatement to say Ashley Young didn’t have the best of starts to the current campaign. A single assist in eight appearances over the first 14 Gameweeks was indicative of his disappointing displays for United, as the former Villa man failed to give any indication he was worthy of our attentions.

Indeed, from a Fantasy perspective, United’s midfield has been hugely frustrating. The league leaders may have scored 10 more goals than any other side yet their top scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfielder is Michael Carrick, with 40 points – three more United defenders have exceeded that score, despite the Red Devils managing a mere three clean sheets. It’s been all about Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney for Sir Alex Ferguson’s table-toppers so far but Young has crept onto our radars after registering an assist in each of his last three Gameweeks and offers an alternative route into Ferguson’s flourishing attack.

The Red Devils roll up to Swansea, having scored three or more goals in five of their last six on the road and priced at 8.2 in FPL and 8.3 in the Sky Sports game, with an ownership of less than 2% in both games, Young could be one to consider for those Fantasy managers still deliberating over a replacement for the suspended Marouane Fellaini.

Edin Dzeko

The City forward may not be too enamoured with his “supersub” tag but, unfortunately for Dzeko, it’s one that his displays have merited. Four of the Bosnian’s six goals this season have come after he climbed off the bench, compared to two strikes in five starts – a crucial factor in his selection for this Gameweek’s article.

Earlier today, Roberto Mancini spoke of his intentions to rotate his team across the festive period as the champions brace themselves for four fixtures in 10 days. With Mario Balotelli ruled out through illness and perhaps uncertain to feature on Boxing Day, the City boss is likely to be careful with the game time of Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Dzeko against Reading tomorrow – the chances are that even if the latter doesn’t start the game, he should see some action.

Bearing in mind the Royals have shipped 13 goals in their last four, the potential for Fantasy points is enticing for the hosts. Dzeko needed only five minutes’ game time to score against Fulham in Gameweek 6, just 12 minutes to bag a brace against West Brom in Gameweek 8 and 18 minutes to notch at home to Spurs in Gameweek 11 – even if Mancini starts with the Argentine pair, then, Dzeko could still prosper if let loose for half an hour or so. Coming in at just 7.3 in FPL and 8.3 in the Sky Sports game, Dzeko’s mid-price FPL valuation and ability to produce from the bench means it would be far less of a blow if Mancini chooses to omit him from the City starting XI.

Victor Moses

Another winger who has failed to produce this term, although the arrival of Rafa Benitez seems to have boosted Moses’ chances. The former Wigan man was rarely afforded an opportunity under Roberto Di Matteo but has started the last two league games at the expense of Oscar in the attacking midfield three behind Fernando Torres.

Handed another chance to impress in the midweek Capital One Cup trip to Leeds, he duly delivered with a goal and assist to vindicate his new manager’s faith. As the fixtures pick up pace, Moses perhaps has the advantage of being a little fresher than many of his team mates – with just four league starts all season, fatigue certainly won’t be an issue. With the Blues looking to continue their recent goalscoring form as Villa pay visit on Sunday, Moses – at just 6.2 in FPL and 6.9 in the Sky Sports game, and with an ownership of around 2% in both games, is a definite gamble but one that could pay off if Benitez keeps faith in his abilities over the festive period.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

ok. Tevez is leading the captain poll and he is not even on the bench for the Scout Picks.

But Dzeko is on the bench.

    Is something going on here?

Knee jerk as this sounds.. but if he doesn't score this weekend then I'll seriously considering getting rid cause if he can't do it against QPR at home then I don't hold much hope for him to do the business in those fixtures. But conversely, if he scores or puts in a performance then I'll hold onto him as form>fixtures plus I remember Ba scoring a penalty at Old trafford last year so he can do it there. Sorry for long reply 😛

True, but it wasn't really the bets of goals was it, it was more of a right place right time after Coloccini booted it back in. Ba isn't really the main concern, Newcastle as a whole are, because if they maintain this poor form and either draw or lose to QPR, then I wouldn't be backing them to challenge Man Utd or Arsenal and I think Ba's output will suffer as a result, (like what happened when they versed Fulham.)

regarding that man city have won all 13 games which tevez and aguero have started together. i can think of 4 of those wins off the top of my head where man city were losing or drawing until dzeko came on for either tevez or aguero and rescued a win. it's such a dodgy stat. i'd definitely say tevez aguero is the best partnership but am happy to back it up with sheer opinion having watched them all play rather than this newly fashionable stat

My MF is scarily cheap & still reeling form DGW madness – Snodgrass, Sterling, Sess, Brunt, McAnuff...

But having shipped Fellaini for Brunt this week I've liberated enough cash (4.3) to score a decent replacement for one of the remainder, albeit with a hit. I'll shed Sess next week; this week it's either:

    (A) Sterling to Bale, Mata or Silva
    (B) McAnuff to Michu, Yaya or Young
    (C) a cheapie -4 punt (eyeing up Moses & Taarabt) and get one of the (A) team next time
    (D) no transfer.. and no hit.. just bench & hope til next week.

Realistically, the question is Bale, Mata or Silva...

Wigan have conceded 2 or more goals in 7 consecutive games.
    They have defensive injuries.
They even lost 3-0 to Newcastle, who have lost 6 out of 7
They generally concede more goals at home than away
    They don't park the
Cazorla just scored 23 points and now goes to wigan
He will definitely not be rotated with no game on boxing day, unlike united or city's strikers who are uncertainties (especially city)

Why is there less talk of cazorla captain?! He's mine for sure

    RVP Last 6 Game Week Points: 12, 6, 6, 9, 2, 2
    Silva Last 6ive Game Week Points: 6, 2, 2, 3, 3, 16

Of the past six matches, Silva has only earned more points than RVP twice, and one of those times only by one point. I hate stats when they make me doubt my captain picks.

      are you:

      leader = go RVP (C)
      chaser = go silva (C)

there are many chances for (C) RVP in the next 20GWs

would you take a 12 point hit to swap giroud... fellani, berba and marveux to ... tevez.. puncheon .. long and walcott?

I planned to do giroud to long next gw and then marveux to walcott the week after but I am wondering if walcott vs wigan + long vs norwich is worthy of an 8 pointer?

A 12 point hit always sounds risky, I would probably wait until the end of Gameweek 19 to get Walcott unless you have a good replacement for him that week on you're bench.

Who should be the best replacement for Fellaini for the next 4-5 GWs?
    I have Silva/Dempsey/Walcott/Michu.

Besides Mata and Bale I can afford any player.

I am a United fan and I have both RVP and Tevez.

I am captainingg Tevez this week. Last week I did RVP and it paid off. Swans don't attack against the big teams and I think they gonna sit back and just defend (so that they lose the game by 1-0 or maybe 2-0, instead of 5-2).

Tevez starts most games with those "easy" teams. But he doesn't when it comes to big teams. So my guess is he will start tomorrow.

U are wrong. Okay may be im wrong too. But Im United fan and I know how good the combination of Rooney and RVP. Both of them make me think that Man Utd will score at least 3 or 2 goals. But we are easily to conceded goals from Header or set pieces. We just need to know from Swnsea fans now about how's Swansea defenders??

Actually, there are 15 fit regular City outfield players atm:

              Kompany
              Toure
              Nastasic
              Lesscott
              Zabaleta
              Maicon

              Yaya
              Barry
              Garcia
              Milner
              Silva
              Tevez
              Aguero
              Dzeko

Therefore five of the above will not start. Kompany declared fit and Kolarov ruled out, correct?
