Liverpool pick themselves up from last week’s defeat by Villa to sweep aside an insipid Fulham at Anfield. Steven Gerrard, Stewart Downing and Martin Skrtel all register Fantasy Premier League (FPL) double figure returns as the Reds move up to eighth in the table:

On the Up

Steven Gerrard
A goal and two assists against Fulham this evening was the Liverpool skipper’s highest haul of the campaign so far, with maximum bonus points also likely to follow. Gerrard has now scored or assisted in three of the Reds’ four games since the return of Lucas to the midfield – a clear sign of the Brazilian’s impact on his Fantasy prospects.

Stewart Downing
The former Middlesbrough and Villa man had deputised for Jose Enrique at left-back last weekend but with the Spaniard fit and available, Downing was shifted to the right of the front three. A goal and assist highlighted his potential if given a consistency of game time – he has now started five of the last six for the Reds.

Liverpool Defence
The Reds recovered from last week’s home loss to Villa to register their fifth clean sheet in the last seven at Anfield. Although Glen Johnson’s recent run of attacking returns came to an end, Jose Enrique’s assist for Luis Suarez’s late goal means the Spaniard has averaged 10 points per game over his last four at home, while Martin Skrtel’s opener took his tally to 64 points – just two less than Johnson for the season so far.

Luis Suarez
It looked set to be another frustrating afternoon for the Uruguayan’s owners but he returned to goalscoring ways for the first time since Gameweek 12 with a last-minute strike sealing an emphatic win for the hosts. While a trip to Stoke could pose problems, the Reds then face QPR and Sunderland, handing Suarez the chance to continue his return to form.

Going Down

Raheem Sterling
Brendan Rodgers had hinted in midweek the teenager was looking a little fatigued of late and the Liverpool boss backed up his threat by resting Sterling against the Cottagers. The winger was on the bench for the first time since breaking into the first XI back in Gameweek 2 and, although he managed a brief sub appearance late on, with Downing in form and Suso impressing, Sterling’s guaranteed game time may yet come into question.

Dimitar Berbatov
Handed a lone forward role as Martin Jol rolled out a 4-5-1, the Bulgarian dropped deeper after the break as the visitors moved to 4-4-2 in order to chase a two-goal deficit. His short-term fixtures look superb (SOU, SWA, wba, WIG) but with blanks in each of his last seven, Berbatov is severely trying the patience of his 10.7% FPL owners.

Fulham Defence
Four goals conceded took their total to 33 against – only Reading and Wigan have shipped more. Martin Jol’s side have now conceded 22 on the road, the worst defensive away record in the league – those above-mentioned three home games are becoming more crucial than ever if Fulham are to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle; they have won just once in the last 10 matches.

    Transfer help needed here.

    Begovic McCarthy
    Mert Enrique Rafael Shorey Clyne
    Michu Mata Walcott Silva Sterling
    RVP Suarez Berba

    1FT. 0M in the bank.
Definitely want Bale. Should i wait one week, play Bale at AVL and do it for free over the weekend or should i just take the -4 and get him in?

Also, who should i lose to get him in? Walcott or Silva?
A defender downgrade will also be needed, so which defender to lose?

I would wait a week so that you don't have to take the hit and I would downgrade Rafael. As long as you are confident Sterling will start in gameweek 19 and can replace Walcott that week for you, I would do Silva to Bale.

Take the hit and get him now surely. Im considering him (C) next week as crazy as it sounds.

How much would you need to downgrade a defender?

Downgrade Walcott, as you'll just want him back for the double methinks.. how much you need. Id seriously consider dropping Rafa.

Thing is NEW sot before the double are great fixtures. Silva > Bale means i need to only downgrade a defender by 0.1M

I might want to downgrade Shorey to Nelsen, gives you n extra 0.1m. Shorey came on for 5 minutes, and his mistake led to the goal..

I'd lose Silva, Walcott looks great value and too often Silva plays great, but doesn't get points on the board.

Thinking of benching Walcott this week and over next two weeks doing Silva & Yaya > Mata & Bale.

Mert got a nice fixture all the way to DGW.
Enrique is more nailed on but Rafa got easier fixtures. Tough one.
But MU always conceded though so, Rafa would go for me.

I like Walcott over Silva as he's currently OOP and Silva is a pretty disappointing this season.
But if you're planning to take a hit - which I actually would do - then Bale for Walcott.

You got yourself a pretty nailed on team which is essential around this time of the year.

Rather than Nelsen I would look at Demel.
Got some pretty good potential CS fixtures in after his blank GW.

Or Rafael to Olsson. WBA defenders rotates well with Ars, Liv and Rdg.

Davies has shows himself to have decent assist potential and Swans will eventually have a solid run at the back(I hope) while Baker may lose out if all villa defenders were fit.

I'd go with A. Pienaar has regained some goal scoring form and has always had good assist potential. With only 8.9% ownership he could be a nice differential

I own him too, he has only played 2 full 90m in the last 12 games.
The most frustrating thing is his absences are not even explained by the usual "he is injured" or "needs a rest" standard explanations, he is just dropped or not picked.

Hmmm yeah I guess Sunderland's fixtures aren't great. I love how consistent Sess is lately though...might think of snapping him up when the fixtures get better.

Might get a price rise out of Pienaar and a decent home game against Wigan to come...I like how he is playing lately.

Keep Sterling....He is definitely gonna play the next set of games.

I also saw last night's match - Spurs vs Stoke, and thought Bale looked pretty great though not as fantastic as LR makes him to be.

So I'd advise Santi->Bale...Yup it's tough, but that's what I think you should do.

Well I have Bale on my radar but I'd prefer not to sell Santi right away...at least he will be back for Newcastle (H) in a matter of days...and I'm not so sure about Sterling's game time when Sturridge is about to sign and there are other options (Downing, Suso etc)

Not sure that you can really garuntee Sterling will start anything other than the very next game. Downing's had a good game, Suso's had an OK game, Shelvery seems to be in favour. You can pick a front three out of thoe without him at the minute.

He will start at Stoke though.

Pienaar is not gonna give you returns like this week in week out....If you buy him, know that you have to stick with him, and there will be plenty of 2's in the way.

I think the money would serve better to upgrade somewhere else.

Well I was just thinking of it as a short term buy hoping he might spark again...he's looking like the source of creativity while Fellaini is out...seems to be taking centre stage.

I'd like to get rid of Sterling as I feel his game time is going to be reduced with new signings and the fact he's 18. Also Stoke next doesn't look too appealing.

Mr Bothra, just want your take on something. Want to ditch Sess and Fletcher as it seems their fixtures have run dry. Thinking Pienaar+Berba/benteke as replacements. Worth a hit for the two, or just do sess>peanut?

Can also do gallas>4.2 and sess>walcott next week but seems too good to be true, and something will surely happen this week to prevent that move(i.e injury, etc, etc..)

            Looking at:

            Bego
            Cuellar, Hughes, 4.2
            Bale, Silva, Michu, Sess
            RVP, Suarez, Fletcher

Which 4.2, currently looking at Baker and Davies.

my midfield would look like this:

      Mata Cazorla Michu Puncheon Pienaar

Puncheon would now be my 5th mid. In case you were wondering why I'd upgrade Sterling...

I got Sterling for 4.6 so I can sell him for 5.1

I just feel Puncheon has guaranteed game time and his team is more reliant on him, Sterling tends to get overshadowed despite the obvious talent. Also with the Jan WC Sterling may see his bench time increased.

Yea similiar thinking except I think I wold get rid of Puncheon first. Liverpool are very reliant on Suarez, and they are alot better than Soton. He might get pushed out in the window if Villa or someone of the like comes but he's nailed on for now.

              I just bought Puncheon! 🙂

I know what you mean but as my 5th mid I think I would prefer Puncheon who has a bigger slice of the cake than Sterling anyway. If I'm going to bench them most of the time I'd prefer Puncheon...and he feels like a safer source of 2 points if needed.
