Liverpool pick themselves up from last week’s defeat by Villa to sweep aside an insipid Fulham at Anfield. Steven Gerrard, Stewart Downing and Martin Skrtel all register Fantasy Premier League (FPL) double figure returns as the Reds move up to eighth in the table:

On the Up

Steven Gerrard
A goal and two assists against Fulham this evening was the Liverpool skipper’s highest haul of the campaign so far, with maximum bonus points also likely to follow. Gerrard has now scored or assisted in three of the Reds’ four games since the return of Lucas to the midfield – a clear sign of the Brazilian’s impact on his Fantasy prospects.

Stewart Downing
The former Middlesbrough and Villa man had deputised for Jose Enrique at left-back last weekend but with the Spaniard fit and available, Downing was shifted to the right of the front three. A goal and assist highlighted his potential if given a consistency of game time – he has now started five of the last six for the Reds.

Liverpool Defence
The Reds recovered from last week’s home loss to Villa to register their fifth clean sheet in the last seven at Anfield. Although Glen Johnson’s recent run of attacking returns came to an end, Jose Enrique’s assist for Luis Suarez’s late goal means the Spaniard has averaged 10 points per game over his last four at home, while Martin Skrtel’s opener took his tally to 64 points – just two less than Johnson for the season so far.

Luis Suarez
It looked set to be another frustrating afternoon for the Uruguayan’s owners but he returned to goalscoring ways for the first time since Gameweek 12 with a last-minute strike sealing an emphatic win for the hosts. While a trip to Stoke could pose problems, the Reds then face QPR and Sunderland, handing Suarez the chance to continue his return to form.

Going Down

Raheem Sterling
Brendan Rodgers had hinted in midweek the teenager was looking a little fatigued of late and the Liverpool boss backed up his threat by resting Sterling against the Cottagers. The winger was on the bench for the first time since breaking into the first XI back in Gameweek 2 and, although he managed a brief sub appearance late on, with Downing in form and Suso impressing, Sterling’s guaranteed game time may yet come into question.

Dimitar Berbatov
Handed a lone forward role as Martin Jol rolled out a 4-5-1, the Bulgarian dropped deeper after the break as the visitors moved to 4-4-2 in order to chase a two-goal deficit. His short-term fixtures look superb (SOU, SWA, wba, WIG) but with blanks in each of his last seven, Berbatov is severely trying the patience of his 10.7% FPL owners.

Fulham Defence
Four goals conceded took their total to 33 against – only Reading and Wigan have shipped more. Martin Jol’s side have now conceded 22 on the road, the worst defensive away record in the league – those above-mentioned three home games are becoming more crucial than ever if Fulham are to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle; they have won just once in the last 10 matches.

Interesting indeed, that being said he was probably 2 injury time minutes away from another mass sale (and price drop) prior to his goal.
Nailed on though, which is key.

‘What matters most to me is my family,
playing for Liverpool, the Liverpool fans and
the team. Anything else that goes on is not
my problem. I don’t read the papers or watch
TV. Every time they boo me or chant
something about me, it just gives me more
confidence to keep playing. I’ve been booed
in Holland and in Uruguay — as a
professional footballer you need to have thick
skin and just get used to it. But right now
I’m at the club I wanted to play for, I’m
really enjoying myself out on the pitch,
because I fought for a long time to get here
and I’m happy the club acknowledge what
I’ve done, which is the only thing that matters
    to me.
‘If we’re playing away from home, I know I’m
going to get booed. But I also know that if
they boo me, it’s not only because of
anything I’ve supposedly done, but also
because they’re afraid, because they know
I’m a player who is a threat to their team.
And that’s why they try to unsettle me and
keep me quiet in the game … almost. But I
    never let that happen.’

Luis Suarez 😀 You boo him, and he'll keep scoring goals 😀

He has more form, and importantly Chelsea have more form than Tottenham.

Davies or Baker i would say. Villa have been solid at home recently, you would save a bit too on Baker at 3.9m, bargain.,

I usually go with Robin, but Michu is a temptation, worried about the possibility of Fergie resting him vs Newcastle.
If its confirmed he starts then RVP,but who knows.

Interesting. I'm on 39 +6 of the bench. He's on 16 +8 off the bench. We both have Michu + RVP (c), but he also has Hazard, Ivanovic and Cole - so it will be close if Chelsea keep a clean sheet.

haha. Had to beef up midfield so RVP became Rooney. Rooney has outscored RVP recently and I got a huge chunk of RVP's big scores up until now. Had him, got rid, got him back and now had to use the spare change, so got Rooney. It's one or the other and I need the extra couple mil.

Tricky one. With those three tough fixtures, I would be looking to get away from the Sunderland assets, even though they're doing well at the minute.

If I had your team, I would actually maybe get rid of Cuellar, for someone who has a better chance of keeping clean sheets in the near future, and also someone who can provide a decent bench option this week, which I thin is important. I'm looking into something similar myself, haven't decided on the player though.

without getting rid of cuellar, i can still field a back 3 with decen enough fixtures till the WC:

        GW 19: stoke LIV SOT

        GW 20: SWA SOT qpr/rdg

        GW 21: SUN NOR wba/liv

gw 21 is the onyl week is where i will find it difficult. Might just stick with cuellar and look for a replacement for fletch. Honestly can't see sunderland troubling the stronger defences

Tevez -> Benteke (Tevez rotation risk. Benteke has nice fixtures)
Santi -> Bale (Santi has blank gw. Bale was very good yesterday and has easy fixtures too)

It may not look good on paper, but this also give me money to get Walcott in for Sterling gw20.

Question: I have had another fortunate week, and taken another rankings rise, but I don't have too much to come.

Is there any chance that I can maintain a current ranking of 239 in the world with only RVP, Michu and possible bonus for Sessegnon, Mertesacker and Suarez (c) to come?
