Our second preview movie of the Rate My Team tool, arriving soon in the members area, gets to the juicy bit. In this movie you’ll see how Rate My Team can help you analyse your existing Fantasy Premier League squad, provide you with roadmap for your team selections and captain choices, and allow you to model a new squad for your January Wildcard.

Chris Atkinson, the creator of the Rate My Team model, again joins me for this movie, be sure to check out our first effort here for some further background on Rate My Team.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

You can find out more about Rate My Team here, or, of course, in the movie below.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie below, as I tinker with my replacement for Marouane Fellaini and scrap my squad to start building my January Wildcard selection.

When will Rate My Team be available?
We’re looking to roll out the Rate My Team tool for our members on January 1.

Decided not to take a hit to get Walcott for Michu... Apart from the hit, I would want Michu straight back for Villa wasting two transfers and losing £.5m (less drops)

I could have done Yaya to Walcott or Silva to Cazorla each -4 and wouldn't want them back.

Doing nothing means Sterling plays.... Right decision....? 😕

I also have PP cup QF and the -4 could be damaging if it goes tits up. He has the better team and I feel I need to do something... 😕

Play Sterling, avoid the points hit and bring in either Santi or Walcott for free next week depending on who impresses you most v Newcastle.

It's a gamble either way so do what you think is the best move for your team. Could argue for either and would take the hit were it not for the cup consideration. Tough call

    GW20 Team
    Begovic (Szczesny)
    Clyne Hughes Nastasic (Cuellar Cameron)
    Bale Cazorla Mata Pienaar (Michu)
    Berbatov Suarez Tevez
Most likely Cuellar will come in for Tevez.
    How I got here.
-- Considered Puncheon/RVP, Bale/Hernandez, or Bale/Berbatov for Sterling/Rooney but went for Bale/Berbatov as best way to get to end of January with WC intact. Last chance for Bale.
    Now question.
-- Is Hernandez for Tevez worth 4 points (will Hernandez outscore Tevez or Cuellar by 4)?

Do you reckon Caz + Gibbs and Nolan + O'Brien are enough cover for the dgw?

Been thinking all week about doing Sterling to Nolan -4

As I am not convinced Sterling will start and been burnt last two weeks with his 1 pointers!

Concerned about Nolan picking up a yellow with RVP, Bale and Yaya already on 4, although Yaya will be out for Felliani next week.

Should I just go for it?

    Which 2 to play:

Shorey: WHU (might play - if Harte has only been giving him a rest)
Davies: ful (could get an assist)
Puncheon: stk (playing against a weakened defence)
Sterling: qpr (might be on bench again)

not seen you for weeks. Paddy Power paid out on that bet - the scout special of clean sheet, assist and scorer. I think the one that was dodgy was Silva to assist.

Good evening / morning Steve 🙂 From memory I checked my bet and found i did something completely different! Strange tho - as i usually do the scout specials.

8 point hits are almost always mad. It's hard enough to guess right and come out ahead on one 4 pointer. Doubly hard to do it for two.

This weekwith Tevez under the weather and City misfiring i think Mancini is most likely to start with Aguero/Dzeko - so if you don't have a decent sub it's a fair swap... even for 4 points

OK, got a slightly random question for you, any opinions appreciated...

My cup opponent has a surprisingly similar team to mine, our defence is almost identical, couple of different midfielders.... But... He doesn't have any of my 3 strikers, RVP, Suarez, Berbs, all 3 of which should outscore his strikers.

My problem is this: He has Mertesacker, where I have Rafael. If I buy an Arsenal defender (Sagna) we will have the exact same defence (in terms of coverage).... So do I buy Sagna, to cancel him out and hope my strikers outscore his strikers... Or, go for a more positive change and swap Michu for Walcott????

the Michu move depends on how much you paid for him tbh, If you've had him a while, get Sagna, unless you can afford Gibbs

Rafa is dropping again tonight if that helps
