Michu climbs off the bench to net yet again for Swansea, while Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski are amongst the goals for the Gunners ahead of double Gameweek 23. Daniel Sturridge is handed a role through the middle and opens his Liverpool account at Mansfield as Luis Suarez adds to his season’s tally with a somewhat dubious strike to seal their progress:

Swansea 2 Arsenal 2
Theo Walcott was shifted back to the flank for the Gunners’ trip to the Liberty, with Olivier Giroud leading the line once again – a concern for Walcott’s owners ahead of double Gameweek 23. Kieran Gibbs continued to impress in attacking terms ahead of the double; the left-back, who has produced three assists in the last four league games, grabbed the visitors’ second, with Giroud supplying the assist, while Lukas Podolski emerged from the bench to notch.

The result means that, if they win their January 16 replay with the Swans, Arsene Wenger’s side will play seven games in 21 days – hardly reassuring for Fantasy managers eyeing up Arsenal’s assets. When asked post-match if his side could cope with the upcoming fixture congestion, Wenger went on to say:

“Today we had four players at home, and I didn’t bring on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin or Tomas Rosicky. Abou Diaby is coming back and if we find one or two on the transfer market, then why not.”

The Arsenal boss also took time to comment on Giroud and Gibbs. Wenger was full of praise for the left-back, who continues to look an assured starter in the XI:

“Kieran Gibbs had an outstanding game. He gets better and better. When you see this kind of game, it’s very positive.”

Giroud, apparently, had an issue with his knee, though his manager alleviated any fears by confirming:

“He has a big scar but I think he should be okay now.”

Michael Laudrup made four changes from the side that drew against Villa last midweek, with Danny Graham leading the line again, as Michu dropped to the bench. Graham vindicated his manager’s decision by notching his third goal in as many games and also supplied the assist for Michu’s goal, after the Spaniard notched within two minutes of climbing off the bench.

Similar to Arsenal, Swansea face a packed schedule over the next few weeks. With Capital One Cup semi-final duties to consider, Laudrup’s side could face eight games in the next 24 days if they win their replay – while rest and rotation will undoubtedly play a part, the Dane revealed Michu’s exclusion from yesterday’s starting line-up was more of a fitness issue – something of a worry, given the upcoming run of fixtures:

“He wasn’t 100 per cent. He picked up an ankle injury in the game against Reading and he also had a slight back problem.”

Mansfield 1 Liverpool 2
Brendan Rodgers made numerous alterations to his first XI for yesterday’s clash. Daniel Sturridge was handed his debut through the centre, with Stewart Downing once again starting for the Reds – Steven Gerrard was omitted from the squad altogether, while Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez were named on the bench. Sturridge made an instant impact by notching the opener, courtesy of a Jonjo Shelvey assist, before making way for Suarez on 55 minutes. The Uruguayan grabbed a controversial second to secure his side’s progress and while Rodgers spent time downplaying Suarez’s handball in the lead up to the goal, his post-match thoughts were also focussed on Sturridge’s contribution:

“I thought he was excellent. He’s nowhere near fit yet, he’s come in off the back of an injury and hasn’t done a lot of training. I think you saw in that cameo today of 55 minutes his pace, his power and he scored a good goal. He probably could have had three goals. It was a good introduction for him, a tough one because Mansfield were very committed. He got his goal and that will give him confidence – he’ll look to keep scoring.”

It’s worth noting that the arrival of Sturridge has done little to quell Fantasy interest interest in Luis Suarez. Sturridge has seen roughly 10% of the transfers in that have gone the way of Suarez with the Uruguayan enjoying over 100,000 transfers in so far in the Gameweek. Rodgers brought us this on his new strike partnership, post-match…

“They can play together, there’s no problem with that. Obviously we want to fit in good players and that’s the most important thing, to keep the squad strong and build up a competitive group. They are both wonderful players, they have both got different strengths but the idea was bringing in players that are multifunctional and can play in a couple of positions and that is what Luis has shown he can do and Daniel also. They are both tactically strong, flexible in their play.”

I have him in my team from week 3, but I still think it was a joke decision.

Yes he scored, but did not much else.

He certainly did not deserve MOTM.

well the great thing about luiz is he can still go back and play CB, so he's more versatile that way. game time isn't what's concerning me, i made a mistake of transferring ivan out for terry for the first gw, and i've been regretting it ever since. just don't want another repeat.

Finally decided not to use my WC (could blow up in my face so badly lol)

    Begovic (mannone)
    rafael hughes cueller (demel davies)
    michu fellaini bale walcott (sterling)
    rvp suarez berbs

since i have no chel players…here are my options:
    A: cueller + suarez >> luiz + ba (-4)
    B: fellaini + suarez >> mata + ba (-4)
    C: sterling + suarez >> mata + lambert (-4)
    D: fellaini + berb >> hazard + lambert (-4)
    E: rafael + sterling + suarez >> luiz + hazard + lambert (-8)

Sooo confused…leaning towards A or E…the only problem with E would be who to bench.

Looks very nice except for the lack of long term Chelsea defence. I'm getting Azpil and hoping to keep for the season.

I personally wouldn't touch Southampton defenders, DGW or no. Two away games gives every chance of a large negative score, especially with Fonte out.

Be aware that there may be question marks over Demel if Hammers sign Martin Olsson. Some debate about who would play on which side though, so might be alright.

My team is below, same mid - you can't really get past those 5.
I reluctantly got rid of Suarez due to really poor fixtures and Sturridge, it means you can have BA for the dgw and then swap to Podolski for his double and also upgrade your defense which is pretty poor at the mo.
Also who are you benching in the front 8 this week?
That's just my thinking though, overall looks good

    Turnbull, Jaaskelainen
    Sagna, Clyne, Demel, Hughes, Cuellar
    Mata, Hazard, Nolan, Walcott, Puncheon
    RVP, Suarez, Lambert

Same as many others I was forced into playing my wildcard this week due to lack of Chelsea players.
It seems to me that most people have very similar front 8s, choosing the correct defense is much more difficult. Not many defenders stand out and once they're in your team you don't really want to waste transfers moving them in and out.
    This is my current WCRMT

    Begovic, Cerny
    Shawcross, Azpilicueta, Gibbs, O'Brien, Demel
    Mata, Bale, Fellaini, Michu, Walcott
    RVP, Ba, Ruiz

I don't want to waste money on a second goalkeeper - Begovic is good enough to play every game.
I bought Shawcross cheap and am not sure there are better alternatives at 5.4.
If I force in Lambert for dgw then I'll have to drop Fellaini or Michu - last time I did this was Ars vs Swa.
also I'll have to waste a transfer getting rid of him.
Next week my transfer is either Mata/Bale to Cazorla or Ba to Podolski depending on how they do this week.

If you bothered reading all that let me know what you think, especially about defense options as I'm pretty set on my front 8

thanks, yeah I took Suarez out but you can't have everyone.
Poor fixtures and threat from Sturridge mean I'll leave him out for 4 weeks and then see what happens, possibly swap him in for Ba and downgrade Walcott later on

Possibility for Cazorla and Gibbs to rise before this week deadline?

Morning all, with GW22 looming I would be grateful of a quick team check. Current team, 0FT’s, no hits taken & WC in tact:

    Jussi (Bego)
    Luiz Mert Cuellar (O’Brien Davies)
Mata (c) Michu Wallcott Puncheon (Yaya)
    RVP Ba Suarez

    Good to go?

Was just about to ask a similar question:

I will prob WC today and have 3x Che, 1x SOT and then 2x ARS and 2x WHU - I would be in no rush to ditch any of them afterwards either which helps.

      What is everyone else doing?

      Shawcross (CHE)
      Nastasic (ars)
      Gibbs (MCI)
      Nelson (TOT)
      Clyne (avl/che).

Thinking Shawcross/Gibbs/Clyne with Nelson first sub.

Will I survive or need to get Bale in?
Would mean dropping Suarez tough (+ letting one che go).

    Turnbull (Bego)
    Azpli, Sagna, Cuellar (O'brien, Demel)
Mata (C), Puncheon, Fellaini, Michu (Walcott)
    Ba, Rvp, Suarez

Next week maybe Azpli => Gibbs

    I have Walcott,Fellaini, Santi,Bale,Puncheon

How do I get Mata in my team- the obvious is Santi>Mata then back again but by doing this I will lose 0.3 selling value on Santi.
Is Mata for the DGW worth it?

i have wildcarded and fitted in all of them and you dont waste points on hits. and wont need a clear out after gmwk 23
