Strikes from Christian Benteke and Gabby Agbonlahor are not enough as the Baggies boing back to rescue a point in midlands derby clash. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Christian Benteke
A superb turn and an exocet shot that arrowed into Ben Foster’s net, handed Benteke his seventh goal of the season. The Belgian continues to be Paul Lambert’s key player and the sole Fantasy temptation in the Villa squad. With the Newcastle failing back four up next, Benteke’s chances of scoring back-to-back goals looks enticing.

Charles N’Zogbia
A former Fantasy favourite, at times in the first half, the former Latics winger sparkled and showed glimpses of talent that once made him a serious proposition. A brace of assists will immediately re-introduce him to the radar and, having made just his fourth start of the season, N’Zogbia he could yet emerge as a mid-price prospect in a Villa midfield that’s been bereft of Fantasy options.

Chris Brunt
Rather like the Norwich midfield assets, it appears that Brunt has been on a see-saw with James Morrsion as the main source of points for the Baggies in the middle of the park. A second goal in five games promotes Brunt’s stock this time around and arguably helps to oust Morrison as the primary target in Steve Clarke’s midfield.

Going Down

The West Brom Defence
With Gareth McAuley owned by over 8% of Fantasy Premier League managers and Ben Foster claiming over 6%, the Baggies rearguard goes on disappointing. Having started the season with three shut-outs in the opening five fixtures, Clarke’s side have gone six without defensive returns, conceding more than a single goal in their last four. It’s one clean sheet in 13 league outings, although McAuley’s assist for Odemwingie’s equaliser will sweeten that pill for tonight at least.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Quite comfortable with my strikers atm. There's the ever present RVP of corse, then Ba, who as far as I am concerned is entitled to the lions share of playing time at the bridge, being the form player (and not being Torres!) And lastly Berba. So I'm happy to hold RVP & Ba for the long term but Berba is a cause for concern. He's on the bench this week, which hasn't bitten me in the behind, but I wasn't keen on the comments on the podcast surrounding Fulham in general being off colour. I'm still optimistic for the next two gameweeks although I fear it will be a lonely period as a Berba owner. I think there's every chance of a decent return from two home games. After that of course Mr Sturridge's fixtures brighten up conveniently. My only fear is he will peak too early as far as my plans to own him after a certain point. All in all I'm quite content with the three forward berths, only utilising one of my freebies in the next 5. Barring injuries of corse. My next concern then is the midfield, and in particular which of the power 5 NOT to own since, I don't know about your budget but I just cannot afford them all. Maybe I didn't invest in the right players at the right times.

      Nice.

      I havent looked at your team, but who are you considering going without. The P5 was my thinking last week, but I just get bored being stagnant. It's a great way to live your life really, especially since most people don't enjoy change!!

      I have the p5 and RVP/Ba frontline, but i'd like to get Silva in, but it would have to be at the expense of Michu or Bale. Fellaini, Walcott and Mata aren't going anywhere for me.

      Berbatov I don't fancy much anymore really.

      Fletcher til Sunderlands fixtures change and then someone else if I were you.

        Fletchers someone I hadn't considered. But I supposed he's getting hard to ignore if you'll pardon the overused expression.

        I don't currently own Michu. Which to my amazement has not cost me dearly over the last couple. I think of the P5 it's Fellaini who is the most expendable. Something about his attitude puts me off. Him going overseas would solve the problem

              You honestly think Wilshere will outscore Fellaini going forward? Did you just get Wilshere for the DGW? Planning on getting anyone in for him? I don't see the point in two arsenal mids after this week, regardless of fixtures, especially when one is not guaranteed to be played OOP every week.

              Fellaini will piss over Wilshere and maybe even Walcott. He might even outscore Wilshere this week, playing 90mins less!

                It may have escaped your attention that Fellaini is more expensive than Wilshere.

                I got him for the DGW yes, based mainly on having watched the game on Tuesday and seeing him be far and away the best Arsenal player on the pitch. He ran through defenders and kept passing it in the box and noone finnished anything, then finally decided he had better have a go himself and scored a corker.

                I am hoping that he will do it again this DGW though it is a bit of a punt. If he does it again he may well keep doing it and he may be the next Bandwagon, and I will have been on it when it was still in the garage. Its a longshot, but I like it and can get rid easily (or just bench him) next week.

                  I didn't see his performance, but I don't consider Wilshere to be a major FPL pick just yet.

                  I hope you are right on him though for you mate!

                  I will obviously piss on your parade and jump on the wagon if it seems necessary.

                  P.s I was assuming you just had 1.5/2m in the bank having switched someone out for Wilshere.

      Don't like Mignolet, Fabio, AJ or Henriquez. The rest is fine. Don't plan transfers to do after a wildcard because unforeseen events could happen such as an injury or a suspension.
      I recommend you get Taarabt for AJ now and upgrade Henriquez.

          He doesn't compare with De Gea, Begovic and Szczesny who are all in his price range. I wouldn't like to play Mignolet against a tough opponent whereas I could be more hopeful of Stoke, Arsenal or Man Utd getting clean sheets against tough opposition.

    Has anyone managed to fit players from the all of the top teams into their attack? Every time I do a new combination I've left one team out...

      I've said this for a while de guzman isnt bad replacement he takes all set peices and prob penalties and plays in the attacking trio

        Must be a budget defence you're packing?

        The midfield is sorted but not too keen on Dzeko. Could get a 1, could get 10. For me it's got to be Silva or Aguero (when fit) as the only city attackers who make it in.

      I'd actually downgrade Punch, unless you bought him for 4.5. I just couldn't handle it if he ever got points, since he be benched every week

            The downgrade would give me 4.8M to spend on a defender, no defenders really stand out at that price, so it's probably best to Punch on the bench and a 4M defender don't you think

              I agree, it's just that Enrique's back you have one half decent defender and that's it. If you start saving the cash now, you can replace Wisdom with someone decent later.

      Does make things easier, but he's too valuable to Arsenal imo and is a great FPL asset.

      He's on a lot of set-pieces and has become surprisingly clinical of late - '31% - Theo Walcott has the best chance conversion rate of any player in the 2012-13 PL with more than 5 goals (excluding penalties).' (Via Opta)
