An ten-minute avalanche ensures that another double Gameweek delivers big returns as Arsenal’s key attacking assets come good. Over at the Liberty Stadium meanwhile, Swansea’s progress to the Capital One Cup Final is somewhat overshadowed by an extraordinary sending off for Eden Hazard. Here’s the Stock Check on Wednesday’s action…

On the Up

Lukas Podolski
Having missed Sunday’s clash through illness, the German chose the second fixture of the double Gameweek to deliver his biggest haul of the season, including a trio of quick-fire assists. Whilst he was again replaced for the fifth match running, with three home fixtures in the next four and in this form, Podolski will surely go on earning new suitors and enjoy a further price rise prior to next week’s midweek deadline.

Theo Walcott
Backed with the armband by so many Fantasy managers, Walcott delivered once again with his second goal of the Gameweek, plus the assist for Giroud’s first goal. Walcott’s consistency is there to be admired: he’s scored six goals in his last seven starts and has only failed to return in one of those matches. Regardless of whether he plays as a striker or winger, Walcott is potent.

Santi Cazorla
Arsenal’s playmaker had failed to notch since his stunning hat-trick at Reading but timed his return to the scoresheet for the double Gameweek. While he has now moved on to eight goals and assists for the season, with Walcott continuing to stream returns, only those looking for a differential or brave enough to double on Arsenal’s attacking assets, will surely consider Cazorla over Walcott right now.

Olivier Giroud
Against the odds, the Frenchman started both double Gameweek fixtures and tonight delivered unlikely returns. The brace moved him on to eight goals for the season and, at 7.8, he’s comes in cheaper than Lucas Podolski. For those looking to back the Gunners over their three home fixtures in four, Giroud is yet another differential option to consider, although his security of starts remain in question.

Going Down

The West Ham Defence
Backed with double Gameweek investment, few would have expected returns from the trip to the Emirates but, having leaked five goals, the Hammers back four has conceded 12 in their last six league outings. It’s one clean sheet in twelve and Sam Allardyce will surely make an improvement at the back a priority having regularly emphasised the need to build survival plans on shut-outs.

Joe Cole
Having notched in Saturday’s league outing with QPR, Cole was rested to the bench tonight as he continues to build his fitness on his return to regular action. While the decision to preserve Cole is understandable, it will dent the confidence of would-be investors who will now likely reserve judgement until Cole has strung together further consecutive appearances.

Eden Hazard
Dismissed for what appeared to be a kick on a Swansea City ball-boy, the Belgian will serve a violent conduct charge that will come with a three-match ban that will see him miss league matches against Reading and Newcastle. We can only wait the fall-out to see if any further action will be taken which could see the ban increased. The dismissal capped a night to forget for Rafa Benitez who started with Demba Ba up front but saw his side frustrated by the defiant Swans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Same, I can't be too unhappy as everyone's defence for the DGW was a complete let down!

Theo (C) and Santi, as well as 2 more points for Carlton Cole, so I'm delighted 😉

After 60 minutes I thought I was set to get 100+ though, shame the game fizzled out at 5-1.

Arsenal were looking like scoring every time they had the ball, and then the injury to Potts stopped the game for 8/9 minutes and that took away the momentum. I thought we were going to have another Walcott hat trick!

The same as you, it was between Giroud and Podolski but I thought I should play it safe as Giroud hasn't started for quite some time. Mr Pods announcing his illness had left me a little devastated as I was trailing behind my H2H opponent. Woke up just an hour ago to check the score. I was so happy like a kid. Like you, had planned on him for a few weeks and then the idea of Giroud might do well like he did against WHM away back in the first half of the season. Yeah, shame if he did play against CHE, he could have scored even more but I'm contend with what he's gotten me here. 😀

Does anyone else have Michu's page "liked" on FB?

He is quite incredible for a PL player - always posting thank yous and pictures and general niceness. In English and Spanish. And he signed a new deal for Swansea when he could have probably just pressed the STUPID MONEY button.

He is a breath of fresh air.

10/1 odds on being PFA player of the year seems like a not bad punt.

You want to be different do ya? Get De Gea in net then as they should sure up defensively in the next few months. Aguero over Rooney because you'd never captain Rooney because of RVP. Do you really think Baines will be worth it in the long run? Wouldn't Azpilicueta and Gibbs be a better combo than Baines and Fabio?

I could point out that RVP and Rooney is a risk, but then I guess you know that!

Baines will either pay off or not, a slight gamble for his price (but nice fixtures, so no reason not to have the punt).

As a side note,I took Clyne out of my WC after looking at S'oton's fixtures, the home ones are awful and I wouldn't trust them to keep a CS away from home. I do like Clyne as a player, but Turner might be a better shout.

Suarez out for two weeks as a trial might be worthwhile Grounderz as he has two hard away games.

Honestly, I'm happy with my midfield. I have no intention on upgrading my defence as I might need those cash in the future again to fund an upgrade to either Aguero or someone with a similar tag. But you might be right, out for two weeks due to two hard away games and a little expy might just be enough to convince me to ship him out temporarily.

Shame more people hadn't taken Ba out. A price drop tonight and he may have fallen again by Tuesday.

Just wasted transfers out for the rest of today now. No strategy some people. 🙂

Just watched the Hazard incident!!! Total BS......not deserving of a red card let along a 3 match ban. Imo....the ball boy has a duty to keep the game moving and retrieve the ball in a timely fashion....there is no doubt that the ball boy was trying to delay the game. Hazard tried to simply kick the ball away from him while he was intentionally laying on it. The ball boy should lose his job. Cant believe some of the "righteous" comments about it..."hope the young lad did not crack a rib"....gimme a break!!!!!!. Will lose some respect for the FA if it stands.

A true disgrace. Sorry for the rant....i do not even own Hazard am not a Chelsea fan and have no other interest in the event other than i am a tremendous fan of the sport!!!!

Some kids need a clip around the ear, but a kick to the ribs is too far 😉

Honestly, the whole thing has been blown out of proportion, the fact that the kid isn't pressing charges says it all. He knows he was wrong, Hazard knows he was a little rash, but that should be the end of it.

They were talking about it on the BBC highlights programme.

I don't know how it will turn out.

I would like to see ban reduced to one game and a fine. a year ban for the kid if he tweeted that he would time waste if needed.

The kick in the ribs he gave him was an act I think I would of been guilty of.
In fact the job the ball boy had to do was to get the ball back in play as quickly as possible.

Smothering the ball like it was an egg needing to be kept warm was not in the ball boys job description.

If we keep hold of collochini this window, we are going to be in the unusual situation of actually having a team selection dilemna. Saylor should be fit to start against villa. I would guess we will go horses for courses and play saylor against teams with big forwards, and play yanga-mbiwa against smaller, pacier attacks. Means that centre backs would be a no go area for us, but hopefully the overall defence should be much more solid, making debuchy a great option!

        --------Mbiwa--Saylor--------

        --------------Tiote-------------
        --------Anita--Cabeye----
        --------------Barfa------------
        -------------Cisse---------

Looks pretty sweet. I always looked to like the 3/5 at the back formation. Not sure why it died out. Think its coming back into fashion a bit more now. So why not?

I never thought Ba will be my lowest scorer this GW. Can't get over that chance. I have him since GW 2 and my selling price is 8.2. It just seams a big loss to get him out now with his form. I can live with 0.1 or 0.2 fall until he nailes his place. And if he gets rotated, well, he does in 10 minutes more than Torres in 80. Will probably keep him until the end.

Opinions on this lot for WC. Was kinda set on it yesterday now having my doubts.

105 with bonus for Walcott to come. Reckon I may have hit the WC button to early.

      Looks very solid for me.

Your cheap GK should be one who is nailed on if going for DeGea.

DDG might get sold so I'd be wary about him, Harte isn't necessarily nailed on either. No Michu is brave but otherwise looks good.

    GW 21 + 22 hit review:
    Without: O'Brien (0) + O'Brien (0) = 0
    With: Luiz (2) + Luiz (6) - hit (-4) = 4

    GW 23 hit review:
    Without: Cameron (1), Hughes (1) = 2
    With: Gibbs (3), Sagna (3), hit (-4) = 2

Saved 0.1 on the sale of Cuellar though, so OK.
