An ten-minute avalanche ensures that another double Gameweek delivers big returns as Arsenalโ€™s key attacking assets come good. Over at the Liberty Stadium meanwhile, Swanseaโ€™s progress to the Capital One Cup Final is somewhat overshadowed by an extraordinary sending off for Eden Hazard. Hereโ€™s the Stock Check on Wednesdayโ€™s actionโ€ฆ

On the Up

Lukas Podolski
Having missed Sundayโ€™s clash through illness, the German chose the second fixture of the double Gameweek to deliver his biggest haul of the season, including a trio of quick-fire assists. Whilst he was again replaced for the fifth match running, with three home fixtures in the next four and in this form, Podolski will surely go on earning new suitors and enjoy a further price rise prior to next weekโ€™s midweek deadline.

Theo Walcott
Backed with the armband by so many Fantasy managers, Walcott delivered once again with his second goal of the Gameweek, plus the assist for Giroudโ€™s first goal. Walcottโ€™s consistency is there to be admired: heโ€™s scored six goals in his last seven starts and has only failed to return in one of those matches. Regardless of whether he plays as a striker or winger, Walcott is potent.

Santi Cazorla
Arsenalโ€™s playmaker had failed to notch since his stunning hat-trick at Reading but timed his return to the scoresheet for the double Gameweek. While he has now moved on to eight goals and assists for the season, with Walcott continuing to stream returns, only those looking for a differential or brave enough to double on Arsenalโ€™s attacking assets, will surely consider Cazorla over Walcott right now.

Olivier Giroud
Against the odds, the Frenchman started both double Gameweek fixtures and tonight delivered unlikely returns. The brace moved him on to eight goals for the season and, at 7.8, heโ€™s comes in cheaper than Lucas Podolski. For those looking to back the Gunners over their three home fixtures in four, Giroud is yet another differential option to consider, although his security of starts remain in question.

Going Down

The West Ham Defence
Backed with double Gameweek investment, few would have expected returns from the trip to the Emirates but, having leaked five goals, the Hammers back four has conceded 12 in their last six league outings. Itโ€™s one clean sheet in twelve and Sam Allardyce will surely make an improvement at the back a priority having regularly emphasised the need to build survival plans on shut-outs.

Joe Cole
Having notched in Saturday’s league outing with QPR, Cole was rested to the bench tonight as he continues to build his fitness on his return to regular action. While the decision to preserve Cole is understandable, it will dent the confidence of would-be investors who will now likely reserve judgement until Cole has strung together further consecutive appearances.

Eden Hazard
Dismissed for what appeared to be a kick on a Swansea City ball-boy, the Belgian will serve a violent conduct charge that will come with a three-match ban that will see him miss league matches against Reading and Newcastle. We can only wait the fall-out to see if any further action will be taken which could see the ban increased. The dismissal capped a night to forget for Rafa Benitez who started with Demba Ba up front but saw his side frustrated by the defiant Swans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Don't like Defoe in there but a few have mentioned he has great underlying stats. Good to see Suarez in there. The rest is pretty much spot on. Oh, i'd advice against Jevans. I'd much rather Rafael personally.

Been posting it on here the last few days and been getting the usual too top heavy comments. Surely second half of the season clean sheets are harder to come by as teams just aim for goals?

That could be my front three this week if i don't hold on to Giroud but i have good value so. I still prefer the more balanced one. Maybe downgrade one more defender but thats all.

I have Wilson since 3 weeks. No problems whatsoever. Happily juggling my other 4. Saves a transfer in the future. Also, look at Migs. Great fixtures.

Davies, Demel, Clyne, Onouha/Fabio are the cheapies i would look at.

Bad tactics , you have been lucky to get away with it, a rash of inkuries or posponements would hurt you.
To buy a player that isnt going to play for the next four or more gameweeks was just bad

A bit off topic but considering how sophistocated doping is in Cycling, the possibility of it being in other sports undetected would surely be quite high. Here is a former Tour de France winner who switched to football in Italy who says some 'idolised' footballers have doped. I wonder if we can be skeptical of Spain's talent in football or Russians talent in Tennis etc

    http://www.goal.com/en-ca/news/4178/europe/2013/01/20/3687972/some-idolized-footballers-have-doped-says-2006-tour-de

It is really toxic for sport in general. I enjoy soccer and train mixed martial arts. Doping, steroids and other performing enhancing drugs are horrible for sports and for millions of youth who look up to and idolize these professional athletes. These cheaters should receive life bans. Zero tolerance for this stuff. It is frustrating that so many people and officials simply enable this behavior.

Ryan. I'm not pulling my WC until next week, so i'll have a full idea of any transfers and injuries. I'll only get wilko if he plays next GW. And he would only be a place sitter for wilson anyway. I know that stoke have been crap defensively for a while, but I would still have a lot more faith in them (and west ham) coming good, then any of the other cheapie defenses. I would have no probelm doubling up on them for the good fixtures

    Look at

Just saw the Hazard incident for the first time. Looked like he was trying to kick the ball free, not trying to hurt the ballboy. Regardless, totally unacceptable behaviour. I wouldn't be surprsed if his ban is extended beyond three games. The ballboy should be punished as well.

If the dozy prat had refused to give the ball back in a park game he'd be lucky to home with teeth.

I think it was weird situation. I would like to see ban reduced to 1 game and a fine.

Ball boy banned from working in FA controlled games for 1 year.

Thoughts on my wildcard team please?

    Bunn, federici
    Cameron, wilkinson, shaw, davies,4.0
    Bale,mata, walcott, michu, guthrie
    Rvp, Suarez, aguero

Loving the front line of course. Ay norwich nailed on less than 4? I don't like the look of demel due to fixtures

Like it, no fellaini worries me but with mirallas back and the 4 i have, have i made the right choice? I guess its sturidge n fellaini or suarez and guthrie without the headache of who to drop each week.

The front 8 could be exactly like mine but I've decided to get Sturbridge instead if Suarez and upgrade defence

That is a sick team in my opinion.

I can very much overlook the weakness in DF for that starting front seven.

One criticism is I'm not sure about double Stoke, I know it's done well so far, but they just don't look as solid anymore. Punt on Dawson perhaps?
