Contrary to earlier reports on twitter, Juan Mata is fit and available for Chelsea’s trip to Newcastle. Petr Cech returns from a brief calf problem, though the Blues are still without David Luiz due to an ankle injury.

Dimitar Berbatov is out of Fulham’s home clash with former club United, while Steve Sidwell is also unavailable for the Cottagers. Sir Alex Ferguson has promised to make one or two changes for the visitors – he’s hoping Jonny Evans will be back and has also revealed Rio Ferdinand will feature. Ashley Young is still sidelined, however.

Mikel Arteta could return for Arsenal’s home clash with Stoke, though Thomas Vermaelen is a doubt again due to an ongoing ankle problem. Swansea’s Michel Vorm remains sidelined with a minor knee problem, casting doubts over his availability for next week’s double. Liverpool have omitted Philippe Coutinho from the squad to face City – he is “away getting things sorted” after joined from Inter. Vincent Kompany is expected to remain on the sidelines for another three weeks for City, while Peter Odemwingie won’t be considered for selection for West Brom after yesterday’s transfer deadline day drama.

All this and more is collected and collated in our team news section, where you’ll also find our updated predicted lineups.

“Rate My Team” has also been updated to reflect the very latest, the Projections will be updated very shortly.

We’ll keep you informed of any new information via our twitter feed, as always.

We can't count on Le Fondre to start can we?

Yes, he's great off the bench, but counting on sub goals seems like a recipe for disappointment.

People seem to be afraid of not having RVP here. But there are some calculations that I did today..

I was just tinkering around with my team a little, and saw what players I could get if I got rid of RVP. Here are the players that I would get rid of and the players I would bring in if I did.

    In: Zabaleta, Bale, Suarez, Lukaku

Out: Demel, Fellaini, RVP, Sturridge (purely because I don't want to double up on Pool attack)

Total points of the RVP-less team (the 4 that would come in) over the season = 442
Total points of the RVP team = 354

    Points per 90 minutes of RVP-less team = 6.025
Points per 90 minutes of RVP team = 5.942

Points per 90 minutes in the last 10 games of RVP-less team = 26.108
Points per 90 minutes in the last 10 games of RVP team = 24.911

Here, the RVP team's points per 90 minutes in the last 10 are a bit skewed due to Sturridge playing less than 90 and still getting the points, but I took everything in consideration while computing the scores.

Points per million of RVP-less team = 13.394
Points per million of RVP team = 10.926

Now that Rooney's back and CL and FA Cup thrown in the mix, RVP's form will only take a setback, imo.

And no, this is not a knee-jerk, because I still am not sure about it, but yeah, I'm a bit confident now that an RVP-less team can do equally good, if not better.

There are other factors too, like constant captaincy, but we'll only have to look a bit deep into it.

A bit too long, hope it was wort reading. Sorry for ruining the space. Cheers. 🙂

      Good analysis.

It's probably a factor with Rooney's return that RVP return MAY diminish. But no one can be 100% about that.

Rooney RVP dilemma is somewhat similar to Suarez Sturridge dilemma.
We all know Suarez is quality and gonna perform better than Sturridge FPL-wise.
But is he worth the extra 3 mill like RVP?

Imagine the boost can be gained from that 3 mil, you can upgrade 2 rotating cheapies at the back to 2 big hitters.

But the down side is, you'll be hiding behind the couch everytime MU plays and hope he doesn't score, which is almost unlikely given his form.

It is risky to be fair, as the ownership is quite high, but really, it isn't impossible to go without RVP. Makes FPL so much more interesting too.

That's the main message I've taken from looking at the scores (and several regulars who have gone without RVP for large parts of the season). It isn't impossible to go without RVP.

But how boring is that, if you pick carefully you can do well without. I did the math and would be about 60 pts worse off had I captained RVP every week over the choices I have made. But I have probably been lucky too. Just saying its not impossible.

I would go for it if I was sure I'd stick to it - but I know that once he gets his brace (which he always does) I would then be trying to shoe-horn him back in to the team - and for that reason I will always keep him. But if you're of stronger moral fibre than me and would resist that particular knee-jerk then you could make it work - and it looks like a few on here are.

The problem is if you don't own RVP you will probably own another expensive striker so the saving will only be a couple of million and can you really rely on the likes of Aguero? Also most of us bought RVP for 13m. RVP's worth more than the difference. If you don't own RVP and be gets a decent haul you're immediately behind virtually everyone and you'll need a couple of differentials to come good just to get yourself back on par. In general its a good idea to own players who most people own and who are likely to score well otherwise say goodbye to your rank.

Well yes, that is the the main thing why many here own him. Everyone owns him because everyone else has him. But I'm just making a case for people who don't have RVP in their teams, they get thrashed for no reason at all too.

Furthermore, it is certainly possible to get by without RVP but the key with him is the Captaincy issue. Not only does he produce, but a RVP-less team makes who to C much more difficult and will produce a LOT of low weeks given to giving the armband to the wrong player.

A friend of mine is nicknamed Weej. Was a surprise to see that!

Wouldn't expect goals from Baines every game. A CS and assist would be a decent captaincy haul, but that hasn't happened all too often this season. I wouldn't captain him again, I don't think the odds favour it.

Lots of jumped on already. Are you aware of his history in the P.L? He is a goal scoring monster. Absolute beast of a man. He is probably designed to play the NBA rather than football.

Will probably not start this weekend, and they have a clean sheet problem, but we will return points that is for sure!

    Mignolet Bunn
    Harte Zab Demel Davies Fabio
    Walcott Bale Mata Felliani Puncheon
    Rvp Suarez Giroud?

    0.4 in bank

Next GW, Zab, Bale -> Gerrard, GJ

*sigh* My final query for a day. Took a LOT of tinkering and pleasing my FPL heart to come up with these two options.

Pick one for the 'long/merdium - term'

    [A]

    Upto 5.0 DEF
    Guthrie
    Cisse, Suarez

    [B]

    Enrique
    Upto 6.5 MID
    Cisse, Sturridge

If you could state why as well, it'd be great. I shall go back to helping and commenting on posts after this one 😉

    Good to go this week?

    Jussi
    Martin Zabaleta Davies
Mata Michu Walcott (c) Fellaini Bale
    RVP Ba

    Fed; Pog, Demel, Gibbs

Two free transfers for next gameweek.. Thoughts? 🙂

    Just a quick one

If you can have.. Assume this is for the long term or post-DGW scenario,
so loading up Liverpool player factor is a no-go here.

    a) Suarez + Onuoha
    b) Sturridge + A.Cole

    Which one would you pick?

    First to five?

Gerrard is an old man and is somehow playing like a 24 year old. He plays deeper than Suarez, doesn't quite have box to box capabilities like he did 5-10 years ago, and Suarez is a striker!!!

He is still a great option for any week, not just the DGW.

Repost : hoping to get at least one reply

    Which option is better?

    A) DDG, Glen Johnon, 5.3 defender

    B) DDG, Jose Enrique, 6 mil defender

    C) Begovic, Jose Enrique, Zabaleta

    D) Begovic, Evra, Demel

    E) Begovic, Glen Johnson, 5.6 defender

    Really need help,

When are the FPL going to add Samba, Monreal etc?

Also what do you think of this WC team (forced due to many injuries)

    Mignolet Reina

Davies J Enrique Clyne, Harte, Clichy

    Michu Mata Sissoko Walcott Puncheon

    Graham RVP Sturridge

0.2 hoping to get maybe Samba /Monreal or Brea where should I downgrade?

Felliaini and Michu are total dogs right now, both are playing deeper and not getting the chances upfront. Ive already put these players in my WC team last week and regretting it now. Wildcarders should think carefully about both these players they are returning nothing right now.
