Another Wayne Rooney goal, another Robin Van Persie blank – United’s hard-fought victory at the Cottage added further fuel to the fire for Fantasy managers. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Wayne Rooney
Despite being moved to the left midway through the second-half, the former Everton man secured the points with a calm finish. Having grabbed a double last time out against Southampton, Rooney is staking a real case for consideration either as an alternative or partner for Robin Van Persie in our forward lines and looks a real differential with Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership under 7%. His consistency of late has been staggering – tonight’s goal made it eight in the last six league starts.

Jonny Evans
His return to the starting lineup made an immediate difference at the Cottage. United had registered clean sheets in each of Evans’ previous two appearances – given they had conceded in the last three without him, his calming influence at the back looks to be a major factor. With the assist for Rooney’s goal, Evans looks set to earn FPL bonus points to cap another assured display.

Going Down

Robin Van Persie
The Dutchman has now registered back-to-back blanks – coinciding with Rooney’s return to the starting XI. The Dutchman had produced in each of his previous ten and while there’s no doubting his consistency over the season, many are now contemplating a switch as mini-leagues start to heat up with the quest for differentials becoming a key factor. With a favourable run of fixtures ahead, Van Persie’s owners will be confident of a return to form but Rooney’s kinder 11.8 FPL price tag liberates budget to be utilised elsewhere.

Antonio Valencia
Handed a start on the right in a 4-4-2, the former Wigan man disappointed yet again and was hauled off on 65 minutes. It’s a single assist in 11 appearances now for Valencia and with Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa pushing for game time, he could well return to the periphery once more. Fantasy managers have been deprived of an assured midfield asset in the United squad all season: there is little sign of that situation changing.

Brede Hangeland
Owned by more than 6% of the Fantasy Premier League player base, Hangeland has been a major disappointment so far this season: yet again he’s without a goal and, with just three clean sheets, his return have failed to live up to a pre-season billing which hailed him as a potential bargain. Tonight the Norwegian suffered his latest setback, withdrawn at half-time with a knock, rumoured to be an Achilles problem, which may now make him a doubt for Fulham’s next outing at Norwich.

Which combo you prefer for DGW??

    1 – Suarez (c) + Sturridge + 4.5 defender
    or
2 – Sturridge + Gerrard + Enrique —– with (c) on somebody of first two

    O, first combo is for -4 hit….!!!!

If you guys wanna ship out RVP, I really reckon this is the week - not 4 gw's later.

I just can't see him playing against Everton with Madrid round the corner. (Welbeck and Chico start)

I had hate to lose RVP because ....(you know his virtues), but it does free up enough cash for me to upgrade a uber-cheap to GJ for eg.

Still I'm almost certainly not going to do it, unless Aguero goes virtually mad today.

    Do these moves look allright?

GW26 2FT gibbs to GJ, pod to studge. Gives me 3 LIV + 1 SWA

    Bego/Bunn
    Harte Davies* GJ* (demel distin)
    Mata Bale Walcott Fell (guthrie)
    Rvp Studge* Suarez*

GW27 take out guthrie, studge (-4)

    Bego/bunn
Harte Distin (demel if regains place)
Mata Bale Walcott Fell 'new mid'
    Rvp 'new striker'

Not sure if worthwhile to get michu/guzman etc for a hit, given i need to take a hit in GW27 to field 10 because guthrie and demel seem to be out of favour

        Ouch 😛

The thing is it's becoming apparent that no more reliable RVP this time around.

It's pretty obvious that he loses his alpha dog status in MU's attack when Rooney's around. Now they share the scoring opportunities. And not sure he justified his 2 mill price anymore.

Also, he will get rested for UCL games.

He does seem to fade away a bit when rOONEY PLAYING.

When Rooney not there all the other players looking to feed Van Persie , now it all seems to revolve around Rooney. RVP will still score , but then again so will plenty of other forwards at a cheaper price

My point exactly. Rooney seems like to be the vocal point of MU's attack in the last 2 games. And both RVP Rooney play the 9.5 position since they go deep and forward alternatively.

Rooney's reliability is not bad as well. He just had a 3 or so blanks this season.

Rooney Suarez Aguero trilane with Bale Mata Wally is just too hard to be ignored imo.

      Its a really odd situation.

If he misses Everton he gets 11 days off before Madrid

      QPR he will obviously play

If he misses Norwich he'll get 10 days off before Madrid, but if he plays again 3 days later

Keeping RVP out for 10 days may not be ideal as managers would like there players to play once a week to maintain their rhythm and last year RVP did manage to play 3 times in 9 days for Arsenal during the Champions League so honestly I'm not sure what will happen

Interesting point...Sub appearance does solve the situation, or maybe a 60 minute appearance? Again don't compare United against Arsenal, Welbeck and Chico can do pretty well on their own.

Nah my point is that if does indeed miss these matches then he might lose his rhythm before the big Madrid games with 10 and 11 days off respectively. I think we might be in for 60 mins appearances

Why would Sir Alex do that? It's Real Madrid for god's sake. A team much better on paper than United. It would be folly to play RVP more than 60 minutes against Everton, when you have got quality players like Welbeck and Chico you could use.

Late kick off on a sunday , when they have to travel to Madrid on the Wednesday for the most important match of the season so far.

There is still some risk in taking him out however.

GW27 away to QPR he will play in that one who to capt that week , bearing in
mind that arsenal will of played Munich four days before ,so captaining an Arsenal player would carry a slight rotation risk

I guess this morning is pretty centric on the talk about rotation affecting RVP....His 2 pts in the previous 2 gameweeks don't help his case either.

What about rotation affecting Arsenal? Not to forget, they are also involved in the UCL.

Anyways have a look at the GW27 fixtures, and tell me who would be your captain that week if you go without RVP?

City play Chelsea, No Liverpool/Swans, so Walcott against AVL, I reckon?

They have currently played 24 games, compared to United, Chelsea, Arsenal having played 26.

I can see Arsenal doing to Villa what they did to West Ham. Villa defence won't be able to cope so I'm keeping Podolski and swapping him out GW28. Will see how the land lies with UCL before deciding which of him and Walcott to captain. I will have Rooney in team but QPR will try do to United what they did to Spurs and Man City, so not confident in captaining him.

For me this feels like the week to show RVP the door and make my overall squad stronger with the extra $2m.
