We wondered if West Ham could stop Gareth Bale – with just minutes left on the clock, Tottenham’s mercurial talent provided the emphatic answer. A majestic strike won a frantic London derby at Upton Park, lifting Bale well into the realms of “essential” status in Fantasy terms. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events…

On the Up

Gareth Bale
We’re running short on superlatives. Bale’s performance was again, incredible. Pace, power and menace throughout, capped with a winning goal that was simply sublime. Two goals tonight took him to six in his last four league matches as his form just remains unshakable and unstoppable. Having seen a 0.3 increase prior to this Gameweek, another huge rise in ownership looks inevitable.

Michael Dawson
An eighth successive league start for Dawson surely underlines his importance to the Spurs defence. While Andre Villas-Boas continues to rotate two spots in his back four, Dawson and Kyle Walker look assured of starts and, with a 4.6 price tag, Dawson looks a worthy acquisition. Sadly however, as we featured in this week’s “Frisking”, the schedule is very much against Spurs, in defensive terms at least.

Jussi Jaaskelainen
West Ham’s stopper was unfortunate to be on the losing side having put in an incredible shift between the sticks. With 10 saves to his name, Jaaskelainen was inspired but was finally beaten by Bale’s moment of brilliance.

Guy Demel
Back in the starting lineup, Fantasy managers will be thankful for his return with starters and points at a premium in the Gameweek. Having been replaced on 71 minutes, it’s unclear whether Demel’s selection at right-back was partly to help counter the threat of Bale. With Emmanuel Pogatetz and fit again George McCartney both contenders to return to left-back, Joey O’Brien could shift to the right once again come the Gameweek 28 trip to Stoke.

Going Down

Kevin Nolan
There had been recent signs that Nolan was returning as a force, particularly with Andy Carroll fit and back leading the line. Forced off with an injury on 35 minutes, however, Nolan’s night came to a premature end as his season continues to stutter following an encouraging opening to the campaign.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    In a real pickle.

Want to get rid of Pog for Lambert but have 0 in the bank so can't downgrade any midfielders to fit him in. Only option is Suarez+Pog > Sturridge+Lambert
I could face having 1 up front in GW29

    Bego
    Rafael / Harte / Davies / Monreal
    Mata / Michu / Walcott / Bale
    RVP / Suarez

    Help!

    Vorm
    Davies Evans Cameron
    Fellaini Bale Cazorla Michu Walcott
    Sturridge RVP

    Mignolet Harte O'Brien Pogrebnyak

    Issues:
    1) Pogrebnyak
    2) RVP
    3) GW29
    4) Not having Sissoko, Lambert, Chelsea attacker...

1.2m in the bank, 1 FT, wildcard in reserve

I'm thinking of ignoring 1) and 3) given that I'll have my wildcard to abuse at some point in the next few weeks. And instead I'm going to focus on who to bring in:

    a) Sissoko
    b) Mata
    c) Lambert
    d) some combination of these

and who to to take out:

    w) Fellaini
    x) Cazorla
    y) RVP
    z) some combination of these

Id hold back on mata seeing as a possible blank. I would try to navigate through gw29 without wildcarding in the event of a double double gameweek after gw 29 if you know what im saying. Maybe cazorla/fellaini > sissoko or even obrien > wilson which also gives you an extra gw 29 player

Cheers, Kendog. O'Brien is a possible for a drop, doubling up on the Stoke defence might be a bit strong. Apart from the blank Chelsea have a good run, but Sissoko looks like the answer.

Have neither Sturridge or Suarez, and considering which to bring in this week for Wigan away.

Looking at their last 4 matches, Sturridge has had 5 big chances to Suarez's 1, and also had 10 shots on target to Suarez's 5. Suarez's shot accuracy is down near 21%, which is bad for baps.

Given the £3m price difference, is it a no brainer?

In what sense though, Crouch. Suarez is the better player, no doubt, but Sturridge is leading the line and is more selfish (bad for Suarez ownership - much like Dzeko is for Aguero's returns).

Was wondering the same myself. Don't want to let him go as I got very early on and he was fairly cheap. Don't see the point in transfering him as Arsenal's run in isn't too bad, rather confusing.
