We wondered if West Ham could stop Gareth Bale – with just minutes left on the clock, Tottenham’s mercurial talent provided the emphatic answer. A majestic strike won a frantic London derby at Upton Park, lifting Bale well into the realms of “essential” status in Fantasy terms. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events…

On the Up

Gareth Bale
We’re running short on superlatives. Bale’s performance was again, incredible. Pace, power and menace throughout, capped with a winning goal that was simply sublime. Two goals tonight took him to six in his last four league matches as his form just remains unshakable and unstoppable. Having seen a 0.3 increase prior to this Gameweek, another huge rise in ownership looks inevitable.

Michael Dawson
An eighth successive league start for Dawson surely underlines his importance to the Spurs defence. While Andre Villas-Boas continues to rotate two spots in his back four, Dawson and Kyle Walker look assured of starts and, with a 4.6 price tag, Dawson looks a worthy acquisition. Sadly however, as we featured in this week’s “Frisking”, the schedule is very much against Spurs, in defensive terms at least.

Jussi Jaaskelainen
West Ham’s stopper was unfortunate to be on the losing side having put in an incredible shift between the sticks. With 10 saves to his name, Jaaskelainen was inspired but was finally beaten by Bale’s moment of brilliance.

Guy Demel
Back in the starting lineup, Fantasy managers will be thankful for his return with starters and points at a premium in the Gameweek. Having been replaced on 71 minutes, it’s unclear whether Demel’s selection at right-back was partly to help counter the threat of Bale. With Emmanuel Pogatetz and fit again George McCartney both contenders to return to left-back, Joey O’Brien could shift to the right once again come the Gameweek 28 trip to Stoke.

Going Down

Kevin Nolan
There had been recent signs that Nolan was returning as a force, particularly with Andy Carroll fit and back leading the line. Forced off with an injury on 35 minutes, however, Nolan’s night came to a premature end as his season continues to stutter following an encouraging opening to the campaign.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sneaky one point for me in the members cup. Puncheon cameo won it for me because I would've gone out on rank if it was drawn.
Makes up for getting knocked out of the first PP cup by one point when Bale lost his CS point in the last minute.
Just thought I'd share because when I told the wife she politely shrugged before impolitely calling me a "sad nerd".

I don't normally like these 'without _______ their team would be bottom of the league' type posts but...

Without Bale's goals in the last 4 premier league games Spurs would have 1 point. Instead they have 10 from 12.

And they'd be out of Europe.

Talk about one man making the difference.

    Take a bow, Gareth.

Not the greatest of gameweeks but I THINK I've dug out a big consolation. Finished home CL tie with 45(-4) against Chazza's 48(-4). With home advantage of 4 points I think that means I win 45-44 in the narrowest of victories. Dawson conceding the second goal got me the win. Demel was subbed off before the second and third goals were conceded so o would have drawn otherwise!!

    There is a fantasy God.

Very tough. Took Lambert on earlier in the season, did nothing for me and I have a constant fear he's going to come off the boil even though he has done nothing at all to give me that impression. Money is no object as I'm swapping RVP out, would do Suarez but already have Sturridge, don't fancy doubling up.

they can offer him CL football, high wages, chance at the PL. he might favour that over a big move to spain where he would be in ronaldo's shadow

Bale(c), you sly fox 😉 Congrats on the rank, WR. I know you put a lot of thought (and time..) into the game and this website. Nice to see it pay off.

Jeez, how do you say that without it sounding incredibly cheesy!

Shipping RVP really does feel like cashing in at the casino. Can now go De Guzman to Silva. Tempting two gameweek punt before finding the cash to get RVP back

    Good Evening DZ!

    What a match tonight.

Like all non Bale Armbanders I imagine, his goals were tinged with a touch of frustration. To Captain Hindsight it all seemed so obvious, and well done to those who captained him. Silver lining for me, my main cash league rival doesn't have him at all! 🙂

Already pulled the trigger on RVP(bought at £13.0, gulp)>Suarez. Already have Studge so may be overkill, but don't see too many other options, especially with possible uber-blank.
