We wondered if West Ham could stop Gareth Bale – with just minutes left on the clock, Tottenham’s mercurial talent provided the emphatic answer. A majestic strike won a frantic London derby at Upton Park, lifting Bale well into the realms of “essential” status in Fantasy terms. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events…

On the Up

Gareth Bale
We’re running short on superlatives. Bale’s performance was again, incredible. Pace, power and menace throughout, capped with a winning goal that was simply sublime. Two goals tonight took him to six in his last four league matches as his form just remains unshakable and unstoppable. Having seen a 0.3 increase prior to this Gameweek, another huge rise in ownership looks inevitable.

Michael Dawson
An eighth successive league start for Dawson surely underlines his importance to the Spurs defence. While Andre Villas-Boas continues to rotate two spots in his back four, Dawson and Kyle Walker look assured of starts and, with a 4.6 price tag, Dawson looks a worthy acquisition. Sadly however, as we featured in this week’s “Frisking”, the schedule is very much against Spurs, in defensive terms at least.

Jussi Jaaskelainen
West Ham’s stopper was unfortunate to be on the losing side having put in an incredible shift between the sticks. With 10 saves to his name, Jaaskelainen was inspired but was finally beaten by Bale’s moment of brilliance.

Guy Demel
Back in the starting lineup, Fantasy managers will be thankful for his return with starters and points at a premium in the Gameweek. Having been replaced on 71 minutes, it’s unclear whether Demel’s selection at right-back was partly to help counter the threat of Bale. With Emmanuel Pogatetz and fit again George McCartney both contenders to return to left-back, Joey O’Brien could shift to the right once again come the Gameweek 28 trip to Stoke.

Going Down

Kevin Nolan
There had been recent signs that Nolan was returning as a force, particularly with Andy Carroll fit and back leading the line. Forced off with an injury on 35 minutes, however, Nolan’s night came to a premature end as his season continues to stutter following an encouraging opening to the campaign.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hey guys just a quick 2 part question I need help with. Current team is:

    Bego

    Azpilicueta, Enrique, Debuchy

    Mata, Walcott, Bale, Fellaini

    Lambert, Sturridge

    Fed, RVP, Harte, Turner

Part 1- Which of these options do you like best?

    A) Save my FT and bench RVP (13.7 sell price)

    B) RVP - Suarez

    C) RVP - Aguero

Part 2- If you chose option B or C please pick 1 player to bench this GW

    1) Mata

    2) Fellaini

    3) Michu

Sorry for the long post and thaks for taking the time.

I really don't and having 2 FT in GW29 would be nice. The flip side is I feel RVP will drop alot and allow me to buy him back at cost or even cheaper while I get to take a punt on Aguero/ Suarez for a few weeks.

I take it you have Michu in a P5 midfield then. I'd go b) but wouldn't want to bench any of those. Fellaini on current form I suppose. That and you'll probably need to shift somebody for gw29.

Full disclosure - I'm benching RVP this week.

' The worst of it' is a term used in gambling where someone has the edge over his opponent. For example we make a bet when I'm 60/40 fav to win so you took the worst of it in the situation.

Bale came good for you which is nice an all but I had solid logic behind my decision to cap RVP over Bale and to say that I'm aggogant based on that comment is a bit of a stretch imo.

RVP was a good choice, was looking very good, I did Walcott no regrets I had confidence in my choice, they were all a toss up. There will always be winners and losers, pleased for Bale owners, however none of them can say they knew what returns he would get.

I'm not saying you're an arrogant person. Just that your comment was a little arrogant and mean-spirited. As if to say 'I hope you do this because you will fail as a result'

Check the form, check the stats...Bale is on fire. Arrogance is probably the wrong word. Maybe it's better described as plain foolish to doubt Bale right now!

And you don't need to teach me lesson on captaining RVP...there's sound logic behind it every week. If I'd said the same to you about captaining RVP it would have sounded dumb just like your own comment did. That's all. Good luck!

You are right that I hoped you would fail. I didn't doubt Bale but just thought WH would be solid at home, at least more so than QPR who have run red hot to keep the CSs they did vs Man city etc as they gave up a ton of shots on goal. Man U have been more clinical this season as was expecting a big score vs QPR. He went off easly and Bale beasted.

Me hoping that you failed wasn't personal. I want everyone around me to fail.

It was still absurd to hope someone captained Bale so you could gain ground. Bale is the most on form player in the league right now. While you might have this view on things, try actually keeping your silly sneers to yourself next time because you will end up feeling like a fool.

If I'd said I was captaining Dawson, then go ahead, have a laugh. But when I say I'm captaining Bale (a player who has scored so many goals lately) then you probably should be wiser than to think of mocking someone for a decent captain.

                I'm glad I didn't listen to you 😀

Evening. Bale's greatness knows no bounds -- he even gave TW a shock win in the GW27 Deadzone Draft. Sorry for the repost, but here are the final results for this gw. Nice job, TW -- you kept getting shut out of your picks but persistence paid off.

For those a bit confused or wondering if the towel's bong smoke can plume through the internet, I ask anyone in the DZ the night before a deadline to take a break from last minute transfer decisions and captain choices to pick 5 players for no more than 30M. D/M/F required, single ownership.

    TW SAYS:
    lambert bale maloney martin clyne
    11, 15, 3, 2, 0 =31
    UNREAL SAYS:
    Ruiz, Lukaku, Monreal, N’zogbia, Akpan
    1, 12, 7, 5, 1 = 26
    PEPIN SAYS:
    Tevez, Taarabt, Kelly, Kone, Anichebe
    6, 2, 1, 13, 0 =22
    CAPTAIN ROBERT HATCH SAYS:
    Garrido Kebe Snodgrass Berbatov Benteke
    2, 2, 5, 9, 2 = 20
    LFC123 SAYS:
    Wilson 1 Arteta 2 Cabaye 7 Lallana 5 Di Santo 5 =20
    NITIN NAGARAJA SAYS:
    Giroud, Pogrebnyak, Lennon, Sissoko, Harte
    2, -2, 2, 10, 1 =13
    KAKIBANGKU SAYS:
    Evra 6 Shorey 0 Puncheon 1 Chicarito 2 Fletcher 2 =11
    BERBILLY GILMORE SAYS:
    Jenkinson 2 Pearce 0 ALF 1 Walcott 2 Pienaar 2 =7
MULL- BRING BACK THE OLD BONUS POINTS SYSTEM!!! SAYS:
    Baines, Mertesacker, Guthrie, Rodriguez, Welbeck
    3, 2, 0, 1, 1 =7
    TM245 SAYS:
    Lampard Fellaini Crouch Marveaux Mariappa
    0 , 2, 2, 0, 1 =5
    ZAT KNIGHT RISES SAYS:

Ha, it's funny because this is why I got Caulker earlier on...only to be burned badly. I understand he is a good threat alright. I was hoping he'd get me a goal back then but then he was stuck on the bench! 😀

I wouldn't touch him for that reason, an injury at the back for Spurs which gave him a full time job would be ideal. 😉

Caulker is fine being eased in. We have 4 amazing centre backs (Kaboul back soon), I guess we have to let one of them go soon 🙁 Or keep playing Vertonghen on LB - which is close to criminal if you ask me.

    Hey DZ

Was talking with Snake Juice and Acquafresca. There seems to be some interest in a Fantasy MLS league. GW1 begins March 3.

If you are interested in joining, the codes are:

    Classic Code 6580-1914
    H2H code (36 players max.) 6580-1917

When you register, please use your FFS profile name.

Should be fun (i did it last year). In the absence of international tournaments this summer, it will give us our fantasy fix for the summer months.

All games can be watched by streaming from the "usual" sites.

Hope you all join....feel free to pass it along to the FFS community.

Just ran a comparison on Suarez vs. Aguero in the last four games. Even though it appears Suarez is way ahead, a closer look at the stats shows that Aguero is not that far behind on goal threat, especially on target. The main differentiating factor is Suarez' creativity - the rate at which is he creating chances is far superior than Aguero.

For sure, Suarez is more of an all round threat in games. But Aguero does have that lethal speed and dribbling skill but he's not really as natural a creator.

Is Wigan more obliging than Villa? Both have showed signs of tightening, I guess. It's so hard to look past Bale's form, stats, and production. He is an absolute beast right now.

I'm tempted to captain Suarez if I get him in for RVP. Otherwise it's Bale or Aguero.

Wigan and Villa are very much on a level par. I'd say Villa had the better form before Wigan's latest win. Although by looking at the stats, Wigan had it too easy against Reading. You'd have to back Pool and City to get wins in these games though.

    Hello DZ,

Does anyone have any info on Cuellar? Should we expect him to become a starter anytime soon?

I think he'll regain his place, keep him if the rest of your backline is okay and you don't need to rely on him.

One of those ones that is hard to judge.

Bramble made a very poor mistake against West Brom so might get dropped. But you just never know. MON has historically been one to stick with his first XI until injuries force a change.

But Cuellar is a player MON is fond of so you'd imagine he'll find a place for him sooner rather than later. Not to mention, Sunderland's form has taken a drastic dip since Cuellar has been out.

Unfortunately there is no way of telling whether he will reclaim his place but once he is back to the first XI then I'd say he'll stay there. It's a pity as he was such a good cheap option for so long and now there is this uncertainty.

Thanks for the analysis. I think I'll take those odds @4.4 value. Removing incoming blank from Clichy in order to afford RVP, Suarez, Aguero front line.

I hope Wigan are not pulling Wigan as I still have Gerrard and Studge and need especially Studge to make up for RVP and outscore Suarez.

You've got 6 players with a possible blank, so probably one of them, are you keeping RVP?
