Monday lunchtime finds us pondering the inevitable rest heading Robin’s way as part of Sir Alexโ€™s policy of pre-European vacation. We also assess the lure of the late-comimg Latics and look at the latest developments in Moussa Sissokoโ€™s convincing campaign to break the midfield templateโ€ฆ

Robin will be in slippers for the Canaries clashโ€ฆ
In all likelihood, Sir Alex Ferguson had already decided to keep Robin Van Persie out of the Gameweek 28 home clash with Norwich. Saturdayโ€™s events, which saw the Dutchman suffer an impact with a cameraman behind the QPR goal has surely just sealed the deal. Van Persie is apparently nursing a badly bruised hip according to the United boss โ€“ a setback that is due to be assessed today. Already the press have jumped the gun this morning, declaring Van Persie fit to face Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League a week on Tuesday. Admittedly, that would seem likely with Ferguson now handed a ready-made excuse to keep his talisman out of Saturdayโ€™s home encounter which, against the backdrop of a 12-point gap at the top, looks routine. We have to expect that the noises from Old Trafford this week will offer little definite prognosis on the Dutchman, allowing Ferguson to keep Van Persie a doubt for the weekend in order to justify his omission from the teamsheet for the Canaries visit.

We canโ€™t rely on Evans after allโ€ฆ
Having talked up the form and presence of Jonny Evans coming into the weekend, Sir Alex conspired to restore the Rio Ferdinand/Nemanja Vidic partnership at Loftus Road, leaving Evans alongside him on the bench. Ferguson has previously stated that he would use Ferdinand and Vidic sparingly: Evansโ€™ form allowing him to rotate them match-to-match. Having started in Monday nightโ€™s Cup tie, Vidic looked the favourite to make way this time around and yet Ferguson went for his experienced duo, even against a side that had offered little by way of goal threat going into the game. Fantasy managers are now back to the drawing board with Evans; we would expect him to start against Norwich but then thereโ€™s also a chance that Ferguson has him earmarked for a role against Madrid which could see him preserved again. With Rafael on the rise after his Shepherds Bush strike, Evans owners will be pondering an upgrade to the Brazilian or even beyond that, to Patrice Evra. The fact is, if United prevail against Madrid, nobody is 100% secure from Fergusonโ€™s policy of rest prior to European exploits: Cityโ€™s failure to keep pace in the title race has seen to that.

Wigan are at it againโ€ฆ.
Clambering out of the bottom three courtesy of an abject Reading performance, Roberto Martinez’s side nonetheless deserve credit for exerting their brand of football at the Madejski. The visitors dominated possession and the chances to ease their way to three points and offer a reminder that weโ€™ve been here before. The Latics came late to the party last season, with the likes of Victor Moses earning our attention and, on Saturdayโ€™s evidence, they have players in form once again. Shaun Maloney is pulling the strings and fetching returns playing in the advanced midfield role. Jean Beausejourโ€™s left-peg wand is again casting spells from wing-back, while up front, Franco Di Santo and Arouna Kone are combining to form an effective partnership. A home clash with Liverpool, followed by a potential blank in Gameweek 29 will curb our enthusiasm for now but, with three home games in four to come from Gameweek 30 onwards, Wigan look set to provide an unlikely source of run-in returns once again.

Sissoko is threatening to form a new โ€œPower Fiveโ€โ€ฆ.
Newcastleโ€™s French resistance is now in full swing, having sealed a third win in three games since Alan Pardew opened the St Jamesโ€™ Park gates to his new arrivals from across the channel. Moussa Sissoko is, of course, the star turn: his third goal in four starts cemented his status as the new mid-price midfield darling and, having leapt by 0.3 in value in the Fantasy Premier League game last week, heโ€™s now set to continue his ascent as new owners come flocking. Places in our midfields had looked at a premium but with Marouane Fellaini now identified as the weak link having scored in just one of his last nine league outings, Sissoko looks ready-made to break up the โ€œpower fiveโ€ that has formed in so many squads. With Reading at Goodison next, patience with Fellaini may be exercised for one more week but thereโ€™s no denying Sissokoโ€™s allure from Gameweek 29 onwards.

Itโ€™s time to downgrade our Pottersโ€ฆ.
Dimitar Berbatovโ€™s moment of brilliance was enough to earn Fulham the points and consign the Stoke defence to a ninth successive match without a clean sheet. Having previously established themselves as the meanest obstacle in the Premier League, the Potters rearguard has since crumbled with the likes of Asmir Begovic, Ryan Shawcross and Robert Huth now resembling expensive “elephants in the room” who can no longer look their Fantasy owners in the eye. Luckily, Marc Wilson provides a ready-made solution. Back in the side at the Cottage, the former Pompey man is available for just 3.9 in the FPL and looks assured of starts over Stokeโ€™s run of home matches against West Ham, West Brom and Villa to come in the next month. The downgrade looks a no-brainer, if we can spare the free transfer to make the switch.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Jonny Evans rest:
It could be that Fergie doesn't intend to use Evans against Real and therefore rested him this GW instead of the next:

That he plans using mainly defs who are not moving much forward to attack, to give the mids and forwards security behind when they attack.

And United already have an away goal so they're through with 0-0 ๐Ÿ˜‰

I disagree, I think Evans will certainly play against real and maybe even Norwich so he is sharp. Qpr was an ideal time to rest him to avoid an injury

Why are there so many people on here with 6+ possible blankers for GW29 pondering whether to do small cosmetic changes, or even worse, to remove decent GW29 playing players (eg Puncheon) and replace them with possible blankers?

Surely the next two weeks are about making sure you can field 11 for GW29 rather than looking at slight improvements for GW28?

I don't understand this line of thought either. He's been excellent but has played a lot of games recently so I can't imagine his benching is long-term. Indeed I strongly suspect he'll start vs QPR. But even a Puncheon starting from the bench in GW29 is better than a blanker.

But he'd had loads of time off and had plenty of time before the next game and he's hardlya whipper snapper AND he's out of contract in the summer so you would think they might want to keep him happy and playing if he was in their plans. Last point is a good one though.

I'm fortunate to have 10 starters at this stage to a point, Clyne and 2 Reading defenders may not help much anyway. May even stick with 10, upgrade one of the others. Baines will then be there for dgw. Perfect situation would be one of the potential blanks involving Arsenal, utd,Chelsea or Everton to go ahead.

People on here plan way to much. You can't plan football, you can't plan Evans not to play or Pogrebniak to get a red card, so I'd say start worrying about blancs and dgw's when the time is there, first comes GW 28 and if you can field 11, save transfer any time. One of you strikers or mids can get injured or suspended, you never no.. just wait and see, STOP PLANNING

      (2) is like the higher the risk, the more you lose. Depending on your position, if you are in a position that requires big gamble to push you up the ranks, I would say (2). Otherwise, (1) should be safe enough to earn you a bucket of points.

EVS - WC paying off for you. You must be loving it.
You fancy your chances of the big one now?
I think the next 10 weeks are gonna be a shuffling act trying to get 11 decent players out week in week out.
I reckon there will be another 3, 4 or 5 weeks w/o 10 games and maybe 2/3 DGWs. Hopefully 2 back to back doubles, that would suit me down to the ground with a WC still intact.
Still alot of points left to play for.

      Hey fella.

I had to wc, had too...

I had Suarez, GJ, Gerrard, Demel, Shaw, Michu, Davies and another (plus dzeko) not playing.

Just glad I made decent choices this week.

My goal is to try and stay where I am - I'm lots of points away from the holy grail, but I'll keep plugging on I guess and see what happens ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah hoping for 2 doubles to come right after each other, load up for the first with a hit or 2 and then use WC to fill up for 2nd DGW. If that happens I fancy a proper charge ๐Ÿ™‚
Without that happening I'll hopefully end up somewhere about where I am now which I would be pretty happy with.

Yeah I know you had to!, looked at your team Friday and you defo had to splash the WC. Decent gain from it so far and your set up for this week too. With no hits and a decent team for 29 I expect you'll make up more ground. 50 points to the leader ain't that much, could be done in 2 weeks!!!! I know it's unlikely in 2 weeks but 50 down with 11 weeks to play is well doable. I even think I'm in with a shout!

I think what I will do for GW29 is bench Mata and Distin and maybe sell Walcott for whoever has a game. This of course is assuming I sell RVP before then.

    Then I'd have

    Bego/Bunn
    Davies Enrique Dawson (Pearce)
    Puncheon Michu Bale WALCOTT REPLACEMENT
Benteke Suarez Aguero (please don't have a blank ๐Ÿ™ )

If Aguero has a blank I will sell for a hit to get replacements for him and Walcott.

I could do Walcott > Sissoko and Aguero > Lukaku/Cisse/Lambert for example.

    Crisis averted.

That will be easy...If he has a blank then his price will fall and Aguero/Suarez > RVP will be easily doable especially if I get in cheaper players for Walcott etc or downgrade in defence.

A lot depends on that City one...and most of all because I think Aguero is the obvious captain choice that week if it is on. So I'm crossing all my fingers!

I assumed it was the least likely to be rearranged for GW29 when I got him so I took the risk. At least it will only cost me a 4 point hit as it stands to hopefully field XI if he doesn't have a game.

Rafa may rotate him with Mikel and Ramires playing well and Luiz can play there too with Terry is back now and Cahill was impressive as well. Long Sentence.

Didn't everyone get in Drenthe last year? Are Everton DGWs really that good?

True but drenthe and fellani are different beasts. When ever you take in a DGW player just for the sake of it, it will almost always back fire. I'm thinking of those guys who brought in the OX or Joe Allen and the like for their respective DGWs

Baines and Fellani would look mighty good on your page with 2 fixtures below their name!

        Mignolet, Jaask
Luiz, Wilson, Clyne, R Martin, Enrique
        Walcott, Mata, Puncheon, Noble, Michu
        Fletcher, RVP, Sturridge

        1FT and 1.1 In bank.

Worth it to do Luiz > Dubucy and Noble > Sissoko for a hit? or do them one at a time this week and next?

        Also not sure about debucy...

        Chasing a 30 point lead.
