[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

After a festive hiatus, this renaissance of tightrope fare comes to you from a departure lounge in Vienna, proving once and for all that while we may not travel to the ends of the earth for you here at the Scout, we will at least go well out of our way to ensure we’ve got your back – even if you might be one of the seven managers who brought in Fabian Delph last week.

With nine yellow cards in just a shade over 1500 minutes of football this season, including four in eight cup appearances for Aston Villa, Delph now stands alone atop the booking charts and is the first player to taste the home comforts of the second suspension tightrope. The sanction for 10 yellow cards received prior to the second Sunday in April (or Gameweek 33 to you and me), is now set at a two-match suspension – so Delph now faces a hard task to navigate the six remaining fixtures without troubling the referee.

Further down the list on eight yellows a heavyweight triumvirate lurk in the shadows of the sidebar widget – David Luiz, Marouane Fellaini and Luis Suárez all just a couple of bookings from a ban alongside Paul Scholes, Craig Gardner, James Perch and a couple of new faces in the shape of Delph’s teammate Matthew Lowton and Chelsea’s Brazilian midfielder, Ramires.

On to the suspensions, and with West Brom’s Goran Popov set to serve the last of a three-match ban (Gameweeks 26-28) for spitting at Kyle Walker, another Eastern European import joins him this week for an act of petulance. Pavel Pogrebnyak, attractively priced at 4.4 in the Fantasy Premier League game and resident on the benches of over 200,000 teams, was unilaterally called into action this week amongst squads stretched by the excesses of Gameweek 26. The Russian’s straight red card for a kick at Maynor Figueroa and the -2pts delivered are only the tip of the painful iceberg as a three-match ban immediately ensues, taking in the testing times of Gameweeks 28, 29 and 30. There’s not many alternatives at that price I’m afraid.

** A late addition to the article comes after the FA announced they have charged Robert Huth with violent conduct in relation to an incident involving Philippe Senderos during Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Fulham. The Stoke centre-half has until 6pm this evening but now looks set to miss the following three Gameweeks against West Ham, Newcastle and West Brom.

    RVP Giroud

    Bunn O`Brien Harte Pogrebnyak

2.2 in the bank, 1 FT.

Time to say goodbye to RVP? (-> Suarez) I can sell him for 13.5 and buy back GW30 with my WC if needed...

Already took a 20k one on his move, have to check the Remy one, I think the way players can view it is it is a potential quick route to PL football, if the kept Taarabt at that level he was outstanding. Likes of Boss Fabio, Cisse etc would go. Redknapp is far shrewder buying players and would have time to create his own unit. They wouldn't need a player of Remys quality in the championship.

Not all footballers are totally money focused and yeah, he took a paycut to come back from Russia but he'd much rather be based in England, where his family is now based.

He knows he won't get anything like that sort of money at any other UK club.

is it no looking increasingly likely that having 2FT at least for GW29 is an absolute imperative (unless you have a WC) and if you already own lambert and suarez/studge?

... only swapping RVP for a striker thats guaranteed to play would seem wise and there aint much quality to choose from aside from those mentioned

Depends who else you have and how many attackers you can field.

If you have Walcott, Fellaini and Mata (as many do), you would ideally want to swap as many as possible for free so that you don't end up playing 1-5-2-2 (or worse)

So Moussa Dembele (the second coming)

You reckon Cameron will go CB? I don't know if he is really suited to that role...

Didn't they try play 3 at the back at home to Wigan recently? That might have been misreported but if they did that I suppose they could get away with playing Shawcross in the middle flanked by Wilson and Cameron/Shotton.

I don't think Chelsea can afford to rest Mata any longer. The League table tells a story...Arsenal are hot on their heels now and Spurs imo are the better team than Chelsea this year (better manager + Bale)

They don't have the luxury of concentrating on the Europa league if they're going to miss out on Champions league football. They won't be getting a 'Get out of jail free' card this year anyway.

They're definitely in a fight to stay in the top 4. At the moment I still think Arsenal will be 5th and not make the CL, but there's not much in it now.

One point though, as Benitez is almost certainly not gonna be there come next season, is finishing top 4 that important to him? Wouldn't he rather come out of his year at Chelsea with a trophy or 2 (FA cup/Europa League)? Trophies always look good an a CV...

Maybe so but Roman won't care a damn about his CV. He'll care about success of course but failing to get into the CL would be an unforgivable sin. It's the very least he would expect from any manager for them to finish top 4.

Managers on the continent can come back from a sacking easier, its more common compared to the PL, where once your sacked you struggle to get another PL job.

But you must remember too that not getting top 4 would be a stain on Rafa's reputation too. Sure, he won't be bothered too much about Chelsea's future if he ain't going to be there any longer but he will feel he's failed his simple objective by finishing fifth. And it would no doubt put interested suitors off him to see he's failed under that pressure.

And after all, Rafa is an ambitious man. He wants to coach the likes of Real Madrid. Failing to make the CL won't look good for him.

Hmmm, I hope it's not every fourth game but it is worrying. I just feel the fact Arsenal and Spurs are so close now to them that the league will become more and more important. A few hiccups and they just won't be able to afford to mess about.

Sure, there's rafatation but the kind of thing you saw against QPR where they shot themselves in the foot. I don't see that kind of thing happening much if they find themselves constantly in must win situations in the run-in

Sky showed 2 complete teams filling all positions with players Chelsea have out on loan, which doesn't include Malouda. That is unacceptable to me, and is screwing up the PL. Most of these will never play a game for Chelsea again, many never have and never will. Surely it would be logical, to cut back heavily, and spend on quality squad players.
